The hot dog is actually two franks split in a hamburger bun with beans and sauce, which adds a wrinkle to the debate of whether a hot dog is a sandwich. It's changed quite a bit from when I first visited many years ago. This was on my list while visiting El Paso. Tauquitos were a bit hard to chew, which means, probably made in dance and not fresh. Coming to Chico's is like saying you very much enjoy going to McDonald's. You think it's good, you tell people it's good, but in all reality? It's like going to chilis. This place is so nostalgic and it's still so good! I always get the double with cheese, crinkle fries, and salsa on the side. Dipping the fries is next level and somehow the flautas don't get overly soggy even though they're deliciously submerged in a rich tomato based sauce. The flautas aren't the only amazing thing on the menu, they're burgers are a classic smash burger that surpasses any fast food burger. Definitely stray at some point to try it. So....my buddy and I are doing a super mega green chile cheeseburger trip through New Mexico in the upcoming days, but we flew into El Paso to start the journey. They give you a number and then you pick up your food at the counter. Here is how everything was................. Double Order of Tacos- These "tacos" were pretty tasty. They came 6 to an order, covered in their red sauce and topped with shredded cheddar cheese. The tacos/taquitos are ground beef and are rolled tight, crispy and crunchy. The tacos themselves were bomb. I wasn't that big of a fan of the red sauce though. Too soupy and watery and bland tasting. Their little green salsa cups were pretty good. Fries- Crinkle cut fries. Unsalted, and luke warm. Not disgusting, but I only ate about half of them Coke- Good fountain Coke. Sweet and delicious! Am I coming back? If I lived in El Paso, yes. Home cooked rolled up tacos are a MUST here. Sauced up and topped with grated cheese... YUM. Crunchy on the outside and warm + cooked to perfection on the inside. Salsa is good if you like spicy! I had been told by several people that I had to try Chicos tacos. My husband had even been a few years ago with his friend when we visited El Paso. This time I had to try them when we were in town with family. I don't know what all the fuss is about unfortunately, but this place was busy as a bee and food with stacked on trays as they came out to eat at their tables. My sisters and I just couldn't get into them I tried one maybe number two maybe number three but it just wasn't what I thought it would be. The taquitos were good deep-fried crunchy, I think it was the ground beef that kind of turned us off, it wasn't very flavorful. It's too bad because I was really looking forward to being on board and just telling everybody about how great they really are. Something about the Chico's red tomato sauce or cheese just doesn't taste the same as it did back in the day. I don't know exactly what it is! If I had to choose the best location in El Paso, it would have to be this one. This is the only that comes close to the taste in the 80's back when I was a kid. There was McCrae too but it no longer exists. This is the original Chico's Tacos in the 915. The two on the eastside don't cut it for me. I don't think they ever will. I haven't been to the one on Dyer in years. My favorite to eat is always a double and fries with lots of green salsa and a Coke. I remember my family bringing me to this Chico's since the 80's. I went to Father Yermo for elementary school for a bit. (which I hated by the way. I'll save those stories for another day!) We'd stop by after school was over. Back then, I'd eat a single and fries. A single is three rolled tacos and a double is six. Another staple has to be the jukebox. It wasn't a complete Chico's meal without my parents playing some Journey and/or Styx. I'm still listening to Journey in 2021! I'd say they're one of my favorite bands. Styx is mas o menos. Chico's also serves up burgers, hot dogs on a round bun, grilled cheese sandwiches and burritos. I've only had their rolled tacos (which they are known for!) and their burgers. FYI, they only have rolled tacos here, not the kind we're all used to. Chico's Tacos seems to be a very divisive spot amongst the patrons that walk through the doors. It's either a hit or a miss, but what if I told you it was neither? The spot has an old school cool charm about it while also being pretty affordable. However, the food itself leaves more to be desired particularly with the meat within the flautas. I find that there could be more flavor there to balance out the great flavors of the tomato sauce and cheese. Is it overhyped? Maybe if you're new to the establishment. But to many people in the city, Chico's Tacos is a part of the culture. Chico's Tacos provides a lot of people with good memories and nostalgia and look - food is more than physical satisfaction. It's also an emotional one as well and if someone always comes here and leaves with a smile on their face then more power to them! They come with a lot of cheese so if you're lactose, don't bother coming in here. But other than that, it was fresh made to order yummy goodness. My coworker and I bought ordered the taco deluxe which comes with 6 small tacos rolled up and covered in red sauce and smothered in cheese. Hear me out...it's Chico's Tacos. If you're a local, you should know what you're in for, if you're not, then ask a local. Since forever, it's been cash only, rolled fried beef tacos drenched in watered down tomato sauce and "cheese" on top with a bit of fluorescence green salsa on the side. Always five stars because this is exactly what being home in my hometown is, at least for me. The bathrooms are now inside and you don't get a hubcap with the bathroom key attached to a wet string anymore, so not even sure why haters rate it any less than five stars. read more

Pretty darn good, but not great. Like ASU football the rolled tacos came up just short from living up to the hype. For many years ASU has made El Paso their second home during bowl season. As a result, many of my peers have told me I needed to try the rolled tacos if I was ever in town. Thus , as I passed through I have them a shot. They had a very unique flavor which was very good. Be prepared because they come with a ton of excess cheese on them. However, most falls off in the sauce. Everything considered, these just didn't blow me away. This place is always very busy bustling and noisy. Ive been here about 3 times. The restaurant doesnt appear too clean or new inside or out. They only take cash no credit card and they have an atm they send you to if you were unaware of the cash only policy. The staff is not very friendly almost rude tbh they seem very stressed out from the continuing pace of customers they frequently have a very long wait line. The tables and chairs are not comfortable and remind me of a school cafeteria vibe. The tacos are served in a paper tray soaked and soggy in a thin red flavorless sauce topped with shredded cheese. Someone from El Paso had recommended Chico's to "constant companion," so we decided to give it a try. I liked the feel of the place. You order at the counter, pay, and then wait for them to call your number in Spanish. CC ordered a burger, and I ordered a hot dog. We also got rolled tacos and fries to share. It ended up being really cheap ($10 and some change for lunch). When CC brought our tray to the table, he seemed confused. "Did you get a burger?" he asked. Now, this was a very reasonable question because we had two wrapped up hamburger buns in a box. I opened one and found three halved hot dogs inside. Also, it had a bunch of beans and one pickle. Honestly, it looked terrible, but I decided to try to eat it anyway. Nope. It was not good. I really can't believe that they call this thing a hot dog. I'm not sure why it's even on the menu. CC seemed to like his burger, but it was nothing to rave about. The rolled tacos were pretty bland and somewhat mushy from the red water they soaked them in. The cheese on the rolled tacos was somewhat of a saving grace, but not quite enough to warrant more than a few bites. The fries were probably the best thing we ordered, and they were just really potato-y. Shortly after I moved to El Paso, I had someone tell me that I needed to check out Chico's Tacos and order the fried rolled up tacos and fries. I actually enjoyed reading the pre-existing Yelp reviews for Chico's, because I think it's actually right on. It's likely a love/hate type of thing. I think I'm leaning more towards the love, but I admit perhaps love out of the fact that Chico's is an El Paso staple. ZEROOOOO STARS!!!!!!! I've always heard how popular this place is. So since I was visiting El Paso from Los Angeles I decided to try this spot since it seems to be so popular. Walking in the place is very dirty and smelly and very VERY outdated. Secondly the cashier lady seemed to HATE her life and her job. Had a terrible looking face as if she wanted to fight someone. Was not friendly didn't bother greeting me or asking if she can take my order. She just stared blankly at me until I just ended up saying hello and explaining that I wasn't from there and this was first time trying chicos tacos. She didn't really give a damn and just kept staring at me until I just finally gave her my order. Once my food was ready I went up to the counter to pick it up and then brought it to our table. My mom wanted a spoon for the sauce the tacos come with so I went back up to the counter and asked for a spoon. The lady serving the orders looked at me with an upset face as if she was also mad or hated her job too and proceeded to grab two spoons and just throw them onto the counter towards me. I was shocked and in disbelief that she threw them at me. Never have I even experience such terrible service. Once I sat down and began to eat. I was completely disappointed and quite frankly disgusted The tacos were stale and flavorless. They were cold and just plain NASTY!!!!!
