10/10! I've been a loyal customer to JJ's Island Grindz and finally made my way over to Chiefs Tiki bar/da crab shack. I really only go to JJ's if I'm craving Chamorro food, and I love supporting local small businesses. The staff are always so friendly, the food is good, and at Chiefs--the DRINKS ARE GOOD (Foreal). This time, my party and I ordered some sushi rolls, teriyaki chicken wings, garlic noodles with crab, edamame, and the Chamorro empanadas. Everything was delicious and fresh tasting. This is a great Tiki bar!!! The drinks are strong, flavorful and unique. Yes there are your standard bearers of tropical drinks and they have their very own concoctions. The service is also fantastic. This time my glass slipped out of my hands and all over the table into the lap of our child. The bartender helped clean it up and replaced my drink without question. The food here is amazing also lots to choose from. We had the sushi burrito which was awesome. We also had the poke bowl with tuna and salmon also very delicious. This has been our 4th time here always a great time and even karaoke on some days. (We like it better without the karaoke but you can never please all the people all of the time. ). JJ Island Grinds aka Chief's Da Tikki Bar located in Bonita in a shopping center so parking is easy. I typically DO NOT eat at restaurants that serve Chamorro food cause it is always a disappointment...this place unfortunately proved my point! We ordered: Islander sampler - empanada filling was too loose as if they used cream of wheat and lacking chicken meat as well as tasteless, sauce for the teriyaki chicken was chunky like gravy...not a fan, lumpia was good as well as the sweet n sour sauce, shrimp patties has too much filler with the imitation crab meat and lacked shrimp flavor. Empanadas - filling is too loose and lacks flavor Fried calamari - delish Baked mussels - too much filler with imitation crab meat and didn't care for their mayo sauce. Beef kelaguen - beef wasn't the best quality, it was very tough and too fatty. Lemon juice needs to be increased and a touch of salt. Chicken katsu curry plate - ok Chicken Karage plate w/potato salad - red rice was flavorless and too wet. Potato salad was too loose and lacked flavor. Karage itself was over cooked and too dry inside. Chicken kelaguen plate w/mac salad - kelaguen was too dry and flavorless. Mac salad was flavorless. Red rice was flavorless and too wet. Beef yakisoba noodles - noodles were cooked perfectly but the flavor was overpowered with ginger. We spent over $200 in just eats. We doctored up what we could but the majority of it went to the trash. Maybe they are known for their drinks and entertainment. I would not recommend coming here for Chamorro food as it is a sad representation of it!!! read more

Very poor service and lack of professionalism! Saturday evening 12/27 my partner and I were super excited to try this place but were highly disappointed l due to the fact that we were ignored the entire time. What seemed to be the priority was a bartender drinking behind the bar celebrating her birthday. We were overlooked multiple times and never once was approached by someone saying "we'll be with you in a moment" or anything like that. The other waitress was on her phone the entire time and didn't even acknowledge us either. We sat there for a very long time with no service and honestly regretted coming. I found it highly irresponsible/ unprofessional that the attention was on the young lady whose birthday it was , taking shots behind the bar. The focus should be on your paying customers... Couldn't they have waited until after the shift ? Or at least until we were taken care of? I was very excited to grow fond of this place because it's close to home, but I will be letting family/ friends know to find another spot where they are actually valued. The hospitality just wasn't there . I don't know who's running the tiki bar, but I suggest that they hire different waitresses/bartenders who actually care about their job because they are driving away customers. read more

First and foremost, I love a good tiki bar. How did I not know Chief's Da Tiki Bar existed? Especially considering how much I enjoy JJ's Island Grindz (though my sister and I always order their food via UberEats, so we need to dine inside.) The tiki bar is very islander -- from the artwork and bamboo, to the decor (specifically the couch). I am Filipino, so I enjoyed the Filipino touches, which is also a theme with the drinks and their names. The drinks that I tried were all delicious, and as any good tiki bar, they are served in decorative cups. It was slightly busy when I went with the group of people I was with, and the space is small, so I could tell the workers were a bit overwhelmed. Two things that I wanted to point out: 1.) My sister ordered food to go from the JJ's menu through the bartender/waitress, but I guess the menu at the tiki bar (though the same food) is $1 more expensive. Not a big price point, but still a surprise to us. 2.) I asked for the Maui Mule, which has muddled strawberries in it (per the menu), but I didn't have any in my drink. When I pointed it out to the worker, she said I had to specify which mule I wanted. There wasn't a regular Moscow mule on the menu and it did not taste as such (more so strawberry flavor than ginger beer), so I imagined she just forgot the strawberries. Another person from my party ordered the same drink and stated the full name (Jewel's Maui Mule) and his was made just as mine (with no strawberries). Moscow mules ARE my favorite drink... Regardless, the bartender/waitress that was working was sweet and it was no issue for my group to pay separately. Drinks are tasty, and I'm sure after a few, I would forgot about any strawberries in my drink. The music definitely adds to the vibes of the place. I will be coming back! read more

We went to this restaurant for lunch around 12:30 for a work outing. The parking seemed slim and the area was kind of crowded. The restaurant however wasn't busy at all. We were seated quickly and drinks/water was brought out shortly. We enjoyed the vibes here and the music too. Wasn't too loud that you have to try an over talk it. We started off with the Aloha Juice for my wife (whom has a particular taste for fruity, sweet, and liquor tasting free cocktails) which she loved and for me being native Chamorro, I couldn't help but get the Hafa Dude (which had the taste of the bourbon but no burn at all) this cocktail was also deliciously sweet. I ended up finishing up with the LapuLapu which was another tasting cocktail. Food wise we ordered the sampler platter and everything on the plate was to die for, especially the shrimp Patties and empanadas. Just average and not worth the price. Alot of the chicken dishes just seemed flavorless or had odd spices. I would say skip the food here and come for the drinks during happy hour! However, the drinks are expensive so be prepared to spend unless it's happy hour. Some shots averaged $10+ so keep that in mind! My friends and I had seen that this new tiki bar in Bonita had just opened and decided to stop by for some drinks! I love that there are more exciting bars opening up closer to home in the South Bay! This place is ran by JJ's Island Grindz (which is also a really delicious restaurant for Hawaiian/Guamanian food!). Since this place is brand new, they're still adjusting the operating hours and working on bringing a food menu to the bar - for now it's drinks only. The interior itself is so pretty, and the perfect vibe to grab some cocktails with friends. It definitely has a relaxed, cozy island atmosphere. They were playing some 90's R&B and hip-hop on the speakers when we visited and I thought that matched the vibe perfectly also! Our bartenders were really friendly and struck up conversation with us throughout the night. All the drinks we ordered were super delicious. I especially enjoyed the Mango Margarita and Da Kine. The margarita was perfectly sweet and the Da Kine had a nice, fruity/citrus popsicle flavor to it that was super refreshing. My friend ordered a Tsunami drink which tasted somewhat like an AMF with coconut flavor if that's something you're interested in. A clean and cute tiki bar here in Bonita. It is an extension of our favorite Hawaiian restaurant, JJ Island Grindz. Although the places are in two separate room, you can order the bar drinks at the restaurant or the restaurant food at the bar. It's the first time we sat at this bar. There was 10 seats at the bar counter, 5 high tables with bar stools that seated 2 people each, 1 regular table that seated 4 people and a 2 lounging couches. 1 genderless bathroom. 1 ATM machine. TVs Galore! No matter where you are seated, you will have a good view of the TVs ( I think there was 5-6 flat screens). The atmosphere was fun as we watched a thrilling baseball game with 16 vs 11 score. As usual, the food was delicious. I recommend the salt n pepper chicken appetizer because it was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. My favorite dish of the evening. I had ordered beef skewers which were good, I wish there was more seasoning or a sauce that it came with. My partner demolish his Kalbi ribs dish so that dish must have been delicious. For Drinks, I don't drink alcoholic beverages and the mocktail mojitos, 1 mango and 1 passion fruit, were deliciously sweet/refreshing/citrusy from the lime juice. The mango blends better with the lime. Passionfruit is more sweeter. I really enjoy both and would definitely order them again My partner enjoy his Saigon Slinger; he said it was refreshing and not very bitter. He enjoyed this tall 22oz 394 pale ale. Lastly and not least, shoutout to the bartender Marco. He was attentive and checked up on us multiple times even when the place started getting busy. He made sure we got the food and drinks quickly and helped me pick out my beverages. I recently came here to check it out a recommendation from a friend. Surprisingly the drinks and food was great. I was greeted by the bartender Patti she was very sweet and tentive. She gave me a couple recommendations off the menu I went with the island sampler which had a Little bit of everything. It included lumpia's shrimp patties empanadas teriyaki chicken wings. It was all very delicious. I also had two drinks paradie punch and buzzing betts. Patti made our visit memorable.
