This joint is a hidden gem, tucked along 434 in Winter Springs don't miss out on fresh, homemade, authentic Mexican flavors and spices. The restaurant recently changed management and the owner was gracious enough to explain the menu in its entirety to me and my wife. He also offered us samples of their shredded chicken, a definite plus . I decided on getting the beef tacos American style with Mexican rice, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and in house made hot sauce. Delicious! The interior decor is simple and clean with a hand painted accent wall. The flavors packed a punch, which means we will be back again soon. I love Chilangos, been coming here or ordering takeout for the past 6 years, and they are typically on point. As you can see from my photos, I've tried a few of the different foods from the menu, and all have been pretty tasty. I especially like the American tacos. Which is weird to say since I'm from California and usually prefer street tacos lol. I had the horchata for the first time yesterday, and it was TO DIE FOR! The only problem was that it was the largest drink I've ever had, so I was unable to finish it. Every time I've gone inside to pick up my order, the cashier and server have been polite, attentive, and ready to help. The restaurant has traditional decor, and you truly feel comfortable coming in. As a resident of Winter Springs for 20+ years , I have had my ups and downs with Chilangos. What I can say is it was authentic. My experience with new ownership was a little less. Reminded me of a Tijuana Flats type establishment. I much prefer a messy mexican experience. Food was tasty but there are many other options out there. Best of lock to the new owners ! read more

First off they really need Spanish speaking people taking orders. I ordered in English mind you, and she still got the order wrong. Apparently she doesn't know that a carne asada taco is not a pork taco! And their Chicken burrito was more of a rice burrito, bland no flavor. 36 bucks better spent at a Taco Bell. SMH read more

Located in a small strip mall in Winter Springs, Chilangos is celebrating their 10yr anniversary and it's no surprise why. This mom and pop is serving authentic mexican food paired with the personal service you don't get in the higher end restaurants. When you walk in Chilangos it's like you're walking into Mexico City. The colorful walls, pictures, art work and even the telenovela on the television indicates this is the real deal. The man who took our order was very polite and patient as we scanned the menu. Everything looked appetizing, but I settled on chips and salsa, a beef gordita and la mula. Then it was time for my BF to order. This made for a good laugh. He ordered the hawaiian torta and a side of rice. We went to pay and were told we pay after the meal, which surprised me. The chips were brought out immediately and are made in house. There is a self service salsa bar to accompany the chips. The red salsa has a slight kick and is sweet. The green salsa is mild and somewhat flavorless. I don't know if this is done regularly, but the same man who took our order also makes the food. I can see this being an issue with the lunch/dinner rush. The food takes a bit to come out because everything is fresh. We didn't mind one bit. We took the time scanning the restaurant walls talking about the history of Mexico City. The beef gordita was loaded with toppings. I love queso fresca and it was piled high, but the beef was a little dry. I added the green salsa on it to try and offset the dry meat. The chorizo on the la mula was seasoned perfectly, but the steak was over cooked. I did enjoy the corn tortillas. The side of rice was bland. The hawaiian torta was the star of the show. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical when he ordered this. Like who goes here to order a sandwich, but boy was I wrong. The flavors went together perfectly and I felt like I had be missing out on something my whole life. We may come back to check out their specials, but I'll be ordering something else. read more

If you are looking for authentic home cooked Mexican food, this is the only place in town to find it. I am so grateful for the couple that own and run this place daily for bringing their heritage to Florida. Their service is always friendly and the food is made with love. The place is small, so don't expect to seat a large group all at once maybe 4 - 6 people can sit at a single table. They do take-out and delivery through the apps. My favorite things here are Taco Tuesdays and the Chimichangas (half price on Thursdays). read more

I've been here a few times in recent weeks and it's very good! The building itself is nondescript; I even had to call my first time there because I couldn't find it. It's in a rundown strip mall and all it says on the building is "Mexican Food." Inside is tiny, 4 tables and a small counter with a couple of bar stools. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The food has been solidly good. The queso is amazing, the tacos are all good (yay for corn tortillas), the gorditas are good, chimichangas are good, the green salsa they make is good - everything is good! Well, everything except their chicken soup. That was no bueno. Flavorless, bland, blah. I just with they were open later! They close at 8, which is an hour earlier than I'd expect (and hope) they'd close. Ordered delivery (through GrubHub) today and I was especially excited because I had some "perks" available on my order. I ordered the "white burrito" which comes smothered in queso and has meat, rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, and onion inside. It came with two small sides of salsa and two small sides of guac. I asked for the queso on the side so it wouldn't get the bread soggy before I received it. Nice amount of queso and delicious..I hate how much I love queso lol. But yeah, delivery was quick. I am big advocate of NOT using styrofoam so any time a restaurant uses it, I make sure to mention it. It's toxic and it's bad for the environment. It's also less expensive than paper products and so I'm trying to be more understanding right now because of covid. It's hard for smaller businesses to afford paper products if they're slow but I believe there's no excuse for the big companies to still be using styrofoam. Anyway, rant over.. The place itself looked like it was just 1 health inspector visit away from being shut down. Today I got to go food from Chilangos, A dozen tacos a chicken taquito and some chips and queso. We took it and ate at the park nearby. Overall the food was very good the guacamole was a little disappointing which led to the four instead of the five stars. We tried this place last night on the recommendation of a friend, and we were not disappointed! Hubby loved his authentic Mexican taco, and I thought the chimichanga I ordered was fantastic. He also ordered the American style tacos, which he said were good, fairly standard. I also ordered the queso which was delicious. We chose to have our order delivered, which we were told is a 35-45 minute process. The driver arrived at the far end of that window. The prices here are very reasonable, and we like that they have the options to eat in, pick up takeout, or have your order delivered. Next time I plan to try the tamales, which I hear are very good. Also, I opted not to get salsa on this order but next time I definitely want to try it. I hear they have a huge salsa bar at the actual restaurant. Possibly the worst mexican food in all of Florida. Food and sauces were bland, chicken was dry, jalapeno poppers were definantly frozen as they were watery inside. The flautas were nice and crispy. But again, dry chicken and bland. I hate leaving a bad review but this place was not worth ordering from and I wasted $45 on it. I was so surprised to see this place has high ratings and then was so extremely disappointing. We are use to delicious authentic mexican food. This was NOT it. read more

It's basically going to a family's home and having dinner...I am so in love with their al pastor tacos! Two soft tortillas (or hard) mexican style (onions and cilantro) rice and refried beans are so delicious. And their salsa verde is bomb! Came here for the $1 Taco Tuesday night and was very impressed! The place is very small with five tables. I noticed a lot of take out orders though. The staff was very friendly. We were greeted and asked if this was our first time in. Then he explained everything to us with the drinks and salsa bar and that it was $1 tacos tonight. The salsa bar has four different salsas, cooked onions, lime and homemade jalapeños! The jalapeños were pickled with carrots and onions. I love anything pickled. This was a nice extra condiment. The drinks were self served. There was a fountain for Coca Cola sodas and another for drinks that included hibiscus, pineapple and horchata. I was not in the mood for the horchata tonight but will definitely try it next time. They also had a mini fridge with a variety of bottled Jarritos Mexican sodas. I had the chicken tacos and the chicken was slow cooked in a tomato sauce to perfection. The chicken was shredded and just enough in the little tortilla. Three tacos were perfect for me. I did devour the basket of chips beforehand though. The hard tacos looked good. The shells were pretty thick and looked super crunchy. The menu had so many more things I wanted to order. This is my go-to place for Mexican! You can find me here about once a week ordering their Three Soft Taco Combo, Mexican Style (with cilantro and onions). I've tried a lot of their meats (chicken, al pastor, beef) but the one that is the best is the carnitas (roast pork). It is mega tasty, shredded and soft. Very good! For instant gratification the perfect solution was to take a drive to my local favorite Mexican Restaurant - Chilangos. Located a few miles of 434 and 17/92 in Winter Springs, Chilangos is a family run restaurant by The Silva Family offering home style Mexican fare in a compact and colorful setting. On the menu you will find a mixture of non-pretentious, humble selection of popular classic selections and traditional authentic items like tortas, huraches, and sopes. Stroll down the menu and you will find choice of meats listed. A variety of meats offered with dishes especially made to order. One has the standard Tinga de Pollo, Asada, Carnitas and for the seasoned eaters like me, Lengua and Chorizo. Eaten at Chilangos multiple times, I have my personal favorites picked out; this is the reason I came for dinner in the first place. I ordered La Torta Loca, Hurache with Lengua, Mexican Style Tacos with Chicken, Pork, and Asada, Tamale with Pork. If it is your first visit at Chilangos, the large print food shots should greatly assist in making your choice. It's a thoughtful touch especially when it comes to ethnic cuisines. I don't eat too much carbs but La Torta Loca is one enormous sandwich I like to eat by myself. Generous portions of asada, carnita, ham, and chicken, topped with Mexican slaw, layered between buttery toasted bun; what's there not to LOVE? The Mexican style Tacos are filled with well seasoned meat. Note I mention Mexican style, because it comes only with onions and cilantro. There is a Salsa station where you can pick your choice of sauces - red, chipotle, tomatillo ranging from mild to hot; it also offers caramelized onions and pickled jalapeño peppers. The Huraches was topped with refried beans, onions, cilantro, sour cream, fresh Mexican cheese and Lengua. I enjoy the savory, spicy, and sweetness combination of this dish. It is a tad heavy on the palate therefore I recommend sharing it. Tamales are my Mexican comfort food; a dish which is labor intensive and unfortunately most Mexican restaurants do a poor job of representing this wonderful dish. One bite of Chilangos Tamales confirm that they are home-made especially since they use white masa. The tamale was savory, with a hint of sweetness, and generously filled with seasoned pork. I relished every bite of it. A brief background - I discovered Chilangos when I first moved to Orlando a few years ago. My quest for finding authentic, ethinic, and local restaurants brought me to Chilangos. I have perhaps visited quite a few Mexican restaurants in CFL and in my personal opinion; it is one of the best joints offering authentic Mexican flavors. Yesterday evening we gathered at Chilangos for a Taco Tuesday event. I had never been to Chilangos, but after viewing the menu on their website, I was excited. They have both, american and mexican style tacos! Which is a plus if you're meeting with friends, you're not sure who will want which kind. Its a small family owned business, but hopefully they can invest in a better sign soon. When you walk in you're greeted by smiling faces ready to serve you. I ordered the Al Pastor Taco, which is pork strips marinated with spices. Very flavorful with every bite. I also ordered a chicken Huarache. Handmade tortilla topped with refried beans, onions, cilantro, sour cream and fresh cheese. Never having one of these before I wondered what I had got myself into. when it arrived it was like a small boat of food! Everything tasted fresh, nothing was overwhelming and the cilantro made it all come together! I felt the chicken was a tad plain, maybe add some chili powder or other spices to it so you can liven it up some. It was a little too shredded as well, maybe leave some larger chunks. However, it was pretty good. The nachos on the table were fresh, lightly salted, and tasty. The salsa bar was a hit in my opinion. Only a few choices but the flavors were vibrant and kept you guessing. We tried all of them! While they're labeled as HOT, that weren't that hot. However, that could just be my tolerance kicking in. They were very good though, I even added them on top of my Huarache to give it a lil kick. ;) My son ordered 3 American style tacos with beef lettuce and cheese. He said they were "ok". I asked what that meant and he stated "not a lot of flavor to the meat". He's had many tacos from various places around town, so I tend to believe him. It's not flashy and it's not trying to invent the wheel but what it does do is crank out flavorful, satisfying classics. It's a very small restaurant. There are three deuces, one four top, and some bar top seating. I assume most people order food for take out, but the restaurant was completely full when I visited for lunch on Taco Tuesday. Speaking of Taco Tuesday, they have this great deal where all tacos are $1 each on Tuesdays. I ordered six hard and soft shell tacos with each of the possible fillings and all Mexican style. Overall, the tacos were pretty good. Decently small (about 4 inches in diameter), simple yet crisp toppings of diced white onion, cilantro, and your choice of salsa. It's a pretty good deal, and it's a nice way to customize the tacos to your own preference, but the meat fillings were a little plain. They could use a little more seasoning or spice to really take it to the next level. I would come here again for the Tuesday promotion of dollar tacos. This place is great! Came here after going to a previous Mexican place (literally) to make up for not being fully satisfied. This spot erased all my doubts from the prior place of trying a new place. Had one steak taco and one chicken tamale.... Ooooooo yes! Taste was there and the tenderness of the steak was on point. They had a mini salsa bar which I love when places have this option.
