In September 2015 My daughter had an adult tooth growing behind her baby tooth. It's a condition known as Shark teeth. We brought her to a dentist and were told that the tooth needed to be removed. Ok, that's fine. They also suggested that we do the same with the tooth beside it so we wouldn't have to make another visit. The tooth beside it wasn't loose nor was there an adult tooth behind it showing it's crown yet so we decided not to do that. After X-rays and front bottom tooth removal, the cost was $500.00. I felt the price was pretty ridiculous but I really didn't know any better because I had nothing with which to compare it. We ended up moving to Lake Zurich and took our daughter to Children's Dentistry Group. Four months later and the same situation occurred. and I needed to get my daughters x-rays sent over. This was a bit of a hassle because they only sent one x-Ray scan instead of all of them. That wasn't a big deal but it was something we had to deal with that was a bit annoying. The dentist told us that the remaining bottom front loose tooth had to go and so we agreed. After removal of the tooth at Children's Dentistry Group in Lake Zurich the bill came to $60.00 for the whole visit (granted no X-rays). Not only that, but when we asked about a top loose tooth the doctor said we did not need to do any other work there because it may fall out on it's own if she keeps wiggling it. It's nice to see children's dentistry group not suggesting is affordable, VERY good interacting with our little girls and they don't push unnecessary procedures, rather they are honest and not looking for a fast buck. It's nice they build a relationship rather than trying to skin a client when they have an opportunity. We'll go here until the kids are too big and we will recommend them to everyone! This place has gone down hill over the last year. We recently had a visit and the doctor had terrible bedside manners. My daughter had to have a mouth piece inserted as the doctor worked on her teeth. It really hurt my daughter and she was in tears. The doctor kept telling her it doesn't hurt and that 3 year old kids handle this without crying. How is that reassuring? She also gave her no warning and shoved the mouthpiece in without explaining what was going to happen. You work with kids, you should know better. Also, the assistant had no idea how to answer any of my questions and had to have the doctor explain which took longer to track her down again. It was a pretty simple question which was easily answered on chat gtp. We won't be returning. read more

Okay - I am telling you to find a different dental office. We've been going here at least 8 years and it's completely gone downhill. To start, I had an appt for my 3 kids (booked 6 months in advance) and they called a week before canceling and I was told that the next time they could get in was 3 months later, or else during school. Next, we finally get there and I am charged for my kids' routine checkups even though our insurance covers the checkups 100%. After calling their business office, I was told I would get a refund. Explanation is that they got a new system and made a mistake. Finally, my son had a cavity and also needed some topical put on his teeth. I knew the topical wasn't covered. They quoted $324. LOL the bill was over $800 and now they're saying they gave me that quote. But their online portal STILL shows they quoted me $324 for that specific visit. Amy reported it's a glitch and in her system it says I was quoted $800. Not to mention I called about this on 12/19 and 12/30 and just got a call back today, 1/3. I'd highly advise not going here based on this review and the other recent ones. read more

Great children's dentist. They treat the kids with kindness and care and my children are very comfortable coming here.

I write this review solely for the cost and manner that our bill was handled. We have had either no or little dental insurance through the years and have always had our dental offices discount the service pricing to some degree for cash payments. Pricing is known to be so extremely high due to services going through insurance. Since we don't Dental groups always work with us. Children's Dentistry did not only in the form of a payment plan. That was my first shocker, the second was the cost of $460 for an 11 year old to get a cleaning and general x-rays. The visit cost me $920 and I quickly when home and got two other quotes from local dentist offices saying the cost would be between $100-120 for the same services per child. All the staff / doctors were kind but I could never support a business that thinks this pricing is fair for a 20 min exam. read more

We were charged $106 for for a 5 minute examination for a minor chipped tooth. The Dr said there was no time to address the chip on today's visit and that she said it would likely not last anyway. I think $50-60.00 would have been reasonable considering a cleaning is 160.00 but they went for the gouge. They also wanted to do x-rays explaining it was part of protocol. Clearly there was a piece of tooth sheered off and an x-ray would have been a waste of time/money but another thing they could charge is for. I told them what I thought would be reasonable but I would pay the 106.00 but they'd lose a client. They offered to send our records over and the full bill. Our kids have gone to CDG for their teeth as far as I can remember but we've decided to take them elsewhere from this point forward. Business's everywhere have gotten away from any sort of ethical practice and profit and greed is the first priority. Regretfully we experienced that today and will look for another practice to help us with our dental needs. read more

Do not go here!!! I was 10 mins late for my 4 year olds appt and they sent me on my way! Mind you, he does not have any teeth problems... I take him as a precaution... Children's Dentistry is such a wonderful place! Everybody, from the front desk (many thanks to Donna!) to the dentists are so great to work with. My daughter who's 5 needed crowns, fillings and the only way we could do it was to go under total anesthesia. She is my 3rd baby and I did everything I could to avoid it. I came to their office as a last resort and I couldn't be more happy. Dr. Joshi is so kind and patient, my daughter feels so comfortable with her. Dr. Blair did her dental surgery at Amita Hospital in Hinsdale. I'm telling you, for someone that ran away from putting my kid under anesthesia, we had the best experience. My daughter does not remember the pain and she is now looking forward to go back to the dentist. She woke up and all the work was done and she wasn't in pain. Everyone at the hospital was so nice and attentive. They let me in the recovery room and I was the one who woke her up Dr. Blair is just a sweetheart! I recommend this place to anyone read more

I have been coming to this dentistry group for over ten years. I previously saw Dr. Paul Herer, who retired in the summer of 2020. A few years ago, I had an assistant/nurse use a much larger size biting piece for my X-ray because they ran out of my size. Since then, I have been reluctant to have an X-ray performed due to the association of pain with that specific X-ray. Upon arrival, my mother was told that if I didn't have an X-ray performed today, that we would have to find a different dentistry. My mother booked me an appointment a week ago, and in that 7 day period they neglected to inform her of the conditions of my teeth cleaning. We were promptly kicked out. When we left, before we even stepped a foot outside their establishment, I heard them badmouth my mother. "She's one of those moms," they said. As we walked out the door and into the parking lot, they continued to speak loudly, and it is very clear they continued to insult my mother. The disregard for courteous conduct within this dental group is astounding. If you are considering this group for your child(ren)'s dentist, please don't waste your time here. read more

I would give them zero star if I could. My daughter had been seeing Dr. Paul Herer there for over 10 years. The practice has changed since he retired. Today I took my daughter there for a cleaning. I told doctor and the assistant that we didn't want to have x-ray done today. They took my daughter in and sent her out a couple of minutes later. The doctor told me that they would not do the cleaning if we didn't agree to have the x-ray taken. We have insurance that covers x-ray 100%. But I didn't like how they were trying to force it on us. So I said no and They kicked us out. And they started to bad-mouth us even before we were out of the door. I couldn't believe how rude they are! That is how they treated us after we had been with them all these years. Take your kids somewhere else and don't waste your money and energy here! read more

What a wonderful dentistry. I have an 8 year-old with disabilities and a toddler and they are so good with them. (They also see adults with disabilities, btw.) My daughter needed dental surgery last summer and they were so good with it. Dr. Herer has fantastic bedside manner. There is a new young dentist working there, Michael P. Rabinowitz, and he is good, too. Whenever I have contacted them about billing or flex spending claim questions, the office staff has been friendly and helpful and quick to help me process my claims. I chose this office because it had excellent reviews. My son's prior dentist had done 2 root canals and crowns with numbing, he had no problem with that. It wasn't until a cleaning he choked on the water because they weren't suctioning properly. So there his dental fear begins. He needed one tooth pulled to complete his treatment. So I made the appointment with this group. The first time we went in he had an exam and we set the date for the extraction. I also made the dentist (older gentleman) aware of his prior bad experience. That date came, he was terrified. The dentist wouldn't do the extraction. Told me we could try laughing gas and to make another appointment. I had plenty of time to get my son ready and prepared for this appointment. He was ready to go in and get the icky boo boo tooth out. So we come in and they numb him up with 3 shots. He's doing fine until they bust out the water and suction, after telling them he was terrified of it. So here we go, he's crying and upset. They start stuffing gauze in his mouth and try to place the laughing gas mask on his face. Now he's freaking out. And the dentist gets upset and says he won't do it unless my son is under general anesthesia at a surgical center. No thanks. A week later I took him to another Pediatric dentist. We came right in, they numbed him and pulled the tooth in less than 5 minutes. Going to this office was a huge waste of time. read more

Dr. Susan Blair is a truly unprofessional and uncaring dentist who lacks transparency with treatment recommendations. She referred us to an orthodontist because she stated my child's adult teeth were growing in before the baby teeth has fallen out and said the orthodontist could do a panoramic xray and advise her whether the teeth needed to be extracted. The orthodontist said there wasn't a need for the referral since the dentist could do the xray at their office and decide if an extraction was needed. When I spoke to Susan Blair, she admitted she was trying to backdoor my child into braces instead of addressing the need of the teeth growing in prematurely. She further stated that if I did not get braces for my child that it would impact the "relationship" she had with the orthodontist and stated that I thought braces "were a scam" (which I never said). She admitted that they could have done the panoramic xray at the dentist office. She accused me of not respecting her professional opinion by asking for a second opinion (when I never asked for a second opinion and the panoramic xray and orthodontist were 100 percent her idea). She then told me to just take my child to an oral surgeon. I asked if my child needed oral surgery and she said that an oral surgeon could do the panoramic xray (which we had already established the pediatric dentist office could do). I would never trust a child or any patient with this dentist who was so disrespectful to me, misled me about my child's dental needs, and seems to have an ulterior motive for when she makes referrals to other providers. read more

My child has extreme anxiety about going to the dentist. After yet another traumatic experience at another practice, I decided to try a pediatric specialist. After three visits, I am very impressed with the staff here. Not only are they competent and communicate clearly, but they also are exceptional at helping their patients relax. The cost might be slightly more than other dentists, but not having my traumatized is well worth it. read more

Frustrating visit with my mentally challenged teen. Our family is aware that she is not brushing well. Our family is aware that she should keep a mouth guard in. Our family is aware that we did not follow through with a visit as early as we should have. Between raising a very difficult child and the demands of the long hours weekdays and weekends of parent's jobs and raising other children we are doing the best we can. The dentists are great. However not thrilled with the office staff at all. They have no knowledge of dental insurance policies and do not know how to work with insurance companies. The front desk and office managers definitely need more training on insurance claims. They mess up the claims even for very basic dental cleaning jobs. My son is covered by two dental insurances. One of our dental insurances covers 2X cleaning per year, another covers every 6 months. My son has only had ONE cleaning done this year. When I made appointment for his Second cleaning and was told our insurances may not cover it. We may have to pay out of packet for the second cleaning. How did they mess up so badly? This is probably why they are more expensive than they should be. Not recommended. Zero star to their business handling process. read more

I would not bring my children back to Children's Dentistry EVER! Since when does a parent not have a choice in their children's health?? My husband and I don't believe in having our young children exposed to X-rays every year. We have had one done about two years for one daughter and one had one done from an orthodontist last year. Yesterday, we were denied services because we didn't want them to get X-rays!! How can you do that??? We take full responsibility if there is an underlying problem down the road from not having radiation x-rays. We just want our children's teeth cleaned and checked for cavities, but they denied us. Horrible horrible experience! We were told my son had so much work that needed to be done, that they would rather have him have surgery, and do it all at one time. I was ok with that. It was set for 12/22, as long as insurance was approved by that date, we were good to go. (Circled by 'Dawn' on papers that were given to us, in a folder). She submitted the claim to insurance on 12/13. I called the office every other day for updates. After they pass the phone around to 2-3 people per call, they say they don't have updates from insurance. I received a letter in the mail on 12/18 from insurance that it was approved. I called the dental office 12/19, 12/20, and 12/21 - they said they have no updates still (again after passing the phone around). I said I have a letter and they need to call insurance! 'Dawn' said it was on her list to do. I called insurance back and was advised by a supervisor that not one dentist rep has reached out to check on the status of the claim, since it was submitted! Seriously! How FRUSTRATING! So of course, Dawn is no longer with the company - and the surgery was then pushed back to January... new year, insurance starts over, MORE MONEY owed!!! I have never dealt with such ignorance. Back and fourth with excuses, that the surgery was never going to happen on 12/22 (even though that is what we were advised of and is on paper). It's all about the money. They don't seem to care about what they advise their patients or how they treat their patients. I will be going to the BBB about this issue as well. This Dentist is Fabulous! The entire set up is extremely clean and well organized. The staff is nice and always professional. My children see Michael, and are always big smiles in his chair. :) I especially love the way he deals with my children. With my 7 year old having his first cavity filled, I was a little on the nervous side about how this would pan out. The entire time, he played games with him and recited little riddles. He makes sure the kids never see the "needle"; and I'm sure all Mommies out there know how important that it! My son never even flinched with the shot because he was so distracted. I have just been more than pleased with this place. And that's saying a lot, because I don't hesitate to pull my children out of a chair if something seems off. I'm always welcomed to sit with my child during cleanings, fillings, etc. There's none of that "no parents allowed" stuff when it comes to DDS Michael. He answers my million and one questions; cause yes, I'm a helicopter Mom; and never cuts his answers short. I feel lucky to him as my Children's Dentist! read more
