Summary: Don't go here if you know what Thai food should taste like. Food was either very sweet or very spicy, and lukewarm or spots of hot and cold. Service was ok. This was not an enjoyable experience. I would rather go hungry than eat there again. To start we ordered Tom Yum and Tom Kha Gai soups. The Tom Yum was tepid and sweet with barely a hint of spiciness. The Tom Kha Gai was so sweet that it was more of a dessert soup than anything. One person got a Shirley Temple, which they said tasted like Sprite with red color, and had no grenadine flavor. For mains: Pad Thai - again with the cloying sweetness, and minimal flavor. It was like rice noodles with sugar sauce and peanuts. Larb-Kai salad - this actually had some heat to it! About a 4/5 on spiciness, decent flavor. Not sure how well it was cooked, seemed right on the edge of undercooked. Tofu noodle dish - temperature was hot in some spots and cold in others, like it was microwaved and not stirred. We came here for dinner last week. Honestly I wasn't expecting that much. We have our super "real" Thai places and then we have the fakies inbetween with the same old curries and such. This is not a fakie Thai restaurant. In fact, judging from the other reviews from here and other sites, I expected a mix of different asian foods, but only found Thai, which was exciting and slightly disappointing at the same time. This place was fast, fresh and light. I had the grilled sea bass and my at-the-time boyfriend got the Duck Choo Chee (we both get the duck dish all the time at new Thai places, so it made sense to get it to compare it to others) The butterfly and chicken satay appetizers were delicious as well. Ordere online through EAT24. Ordering was easy and quick. My food was cooked and delivered within 28 minutes. I live just up the road a bit, but was still surprised on how fast. I ordered the Combo Platter, Veggie fried rice and Scallion pancakes. The Combo was cooked perfectly with clean taste. The fried rice was also done perfectly, but the scallion pancakes were a downer. They were greasy and the dough was mostly raw. Maybe they should have taken more time than rushing my order. However, I am not scared away, yet. Crap happens and today is New Years Eve. After spending half of a year in Thailand, my desire for thai food is rare and extremely picky. Chili Basil delivers some pretty solid dishes- which was surprising to me given it's almost hidden in the back of a parking lot on Boston Post Road. I'm not embarrassed to admit that I passed it 2+ times the first time I was trying to find it. I'm a big fan of their chicken and cashew nut, their wonton soup (which I've never had at a Thai restaurant before- and it is exactly as I'd hoped it would be- a Thai spin on wonton soup), their drunken noodles definitely packs some heat, and you CANNOT walk out of this place without ordered mango sticky rice for dessert (but be sure mangos are in season..). I'm happy to say this is my go-to spot when my boring sandwich I packed for lunch just won't do. read more

I'm in between a 3 and a 4 star, but I rounded up ;) I've been here a few times after moving nearby and searching for our new "go-to" thai place (our fav takeout). The first time I was very happy with my green curry - very spicy and delicious. The second time, not as much. Very little flavor and thickness. Almost tasted watered down which was very disappointing. We also tried their fresh rolls and they were just meh. I've had better, I've had worse. I will say the takeout process is always quick and efficient which I appreciate. The location is a bit strange...kind of out of the way tucked back from the road. The food was ok, but just not the Thai flavors I am used to. The scallion pancakes were a bit thicker and oilier than we've encountered in Thai restaurants. I really like their Pad Thai. If I never had any other entree there, I would give them another star. That only goes for eating in tho. When it's take out, it doesn't really travel well. I like their crispy rolls too, but when that is take out and sitting around for a bit.. it's pretty nasty. The skin gets all chewy. On the other hand, I eat the spring roll for the dipping sauce. I really like the thai sweet chili sauce. As for the chicken curry I had today, the chicken was very dry. After eating that, it reminded me why I shouldn't order chicken in a thai restaurant. I do that every now and then.. cuz I will forget. I picked massuman curry today since I want something sweet and spicy. They make it very sweet here. There isn't a balance of sweet and spicy; but that's because I can handle a higher spice level. I should stick with making my own thai-indonesian chicken curry since I braise the hell outta it! This place is really good, and the quality hasn't waned in the 8+ years I've been coming here. Their spring rolls especially are among the best I've ever had, and their Thai iced tea isn't watered down like so many restaurants tend to do. Their pad Thai is also really yummy (ask for it spicy!!) What more can I say?... ...This: the menu is fairly overpriced (every dinner entree is above $10, even the vegetarian ones, and it's not like the ambiance in there makes up for it), and their delivery fee usually sets it over the top. They also weren't playing music the last time I was in, which was a little odd. But in the grand scheme of things, the food is what matters and Chili Basil doesn't disappoint. read more

Just got back. This was the 3rd time I've been there. I am definitely a fan. I had the Crispy Chicken Basil. It was the right amount of spice and flavor. Portions are big and it is super easy to overeat. Everything is so tasty. I definitely recommend it as a first option, or even a second if Oishii II is at capacity. The interior is well decorated and they have a full bar. I think with all the restaurants in the area this one may get lost. It's hidden off Boston Post Road while larger places are roadside. Give this one a try and keep it in business so I can keep going there. read more

Having recently moved out of the city and back to the burbs, my honey and I were looking to get a serious Thai food fix. With the combined efforts of foodler.com and yelp we happened upon this little gem, not but 10 minutes from our apartment. The seating is sparse--the decor cute/ vaguely reminiscent of "Chili Duck" on Boylston st. across from the Prudential. The plates are generously sized, ample beyond most restaurant portions (for a young lass like me--generally enough to take home for lunch the next day!) Everything is fresh tasting, and delicious--not to mention very reasonably priced. Moral of the story: if you are looking for good quality Thai food-- head to this pint-sized eatery to tuck into a luscious curry, mahogany-crisp duck skin, or sweet slippery pad see iew that will not soon be forgotten. read more

I literally just went on yelp and read other comments, and I really appreciate honest feedback from other patrons since I love restaurants, more importantly- I love to eat LOL However, this is based on two visits with similar customer service experience and food consistency. My first visit was in June of 2016, the second one was today July 2016. Both visits were on a Tuesday (since Tuesday nights are the best for me) and the crowd is minimized. The waitresses are both very nice, attentive and were always there when we needed water, more napkins, etc... The ka prow was awesome, and I absolutely love it! I've been eating Thai food since I was in my teens, so I think that I can tell if they add too much fish sauce or not... this is perfect! As far as the other comments, I cannot validate whether it is true or not... but the bathroom was a regular bathroom and the condition of the restaurant looked like a regular restaurant. I get worried when I think of cockroaches in a restaurant, perhaps they cleaned it after you guys addressed the problem? This is why I love reviews, so owners can also learn how to be better at managing and supporting their customers. I have gone to Sweet Pepper several times, many times for lunch and twice for dinner. Their lunch service is very quick and the presentation is simple which I loved! Their signature dish is their Pad Thai Noodle which is WONDERFUL with tofu or chicken, the Massaman Curry with Tofu is spicey, sweet and very satisfying. The dinner atmosphere is very pleasant, the order did take a little longer to come to our table but they were very busy so that could have added to the delay, again the food was delicious and light!! I would also recommend the Vegetable Vegetable dish, it is not loaded in soy sauce which is great and the veggies are flavorful and crunchy!! Their take-out is fast and always fresh!!! read more

I have no idea how this restaurant got the good reviews it has on here. I've had better service at fast food joints. The food is not that great. If you're craving Thai and you don't have time to go anywhere else or make it yourself, this is an ok place. But the Pad Thai was barely better than mediocre. The green curry wasn't even slightly spicy. The spring rolls were great, but super expensive for the tiny morsels they are. The thai iced coffee was cloyingly sweet, as if they had dumped an entire pound of sugar in it. The service was horrible. They actually forgot about us, since we were the only people there and they had seated us in the corner. If you want good Thai food, skip this place and go to Thai Viet Cuisine in Newton. This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the area. Even though they have a small store front it never feels crowded. The staff is always very attentive and the food comes quickly. Plus, everything tastes amazing! They are also great for take-out. They always prepare the food quickly and have it ready by the time I get there (I live close by.) read more

I tried this place for the first time today after seeing it here on Yelp. It was tricky to find since it's located in a strip mall that's kind of hidden from Rt. 20. The spring rolls were delicious and the Pad Thai was great. Almost the best spring rolls I've ever had. My husband wasn't a huge fan of the Tom Yum soup, but he said the tamarind fish was pretty good. Prices were good, service was fast, and the food was great. This is standard "US Thai"...middle of the road. Not great..but not bad. The fresh rolls are very good as is the green-papaya salad. The curries and noodles are fairly standard, though. Spice can be dialed from "mild" to "wild"...but just about every thai restaurant around can do the same thing. read more

I love this place. I go every time I am visiting my parents in MA (I moved out of state years ago but still come back 3 or so times a year for a visit). I absolutely love Thai food, and I prefer it really spicy. My aunt, however, does not like it too spicy. The staff at Chili Basil are always willing to accommodate whatever level of spice you like, which is great. A lot of places when I ask "make it really spicy" they look at me like I can't handle it. Chili Basil knows I have a strong stomach and taste buds :) One thing I love about this place - it's never crowded. Which might be off-putting except that I realized a few years ago they do A LOT of takeout business. So the lack of patrons is not a reflection of the food; just of the fact that Americans like convenience! So, if you go for dinner, you'll rarely have a wait. Other pros: the prices are great - I live in CA so a typical Thai dinner costs at least $16. Here you can get it in the 11-14 dollar range. Not a huge difference, but one that I appreciate. And the portion sizes are big so you can easily have a doggie bag for next days' lunch. The wine list is short but quality wines. The appetizers are decent. We've gotten the fresh rolls (not deep fried, the ones in rice paper). They don't have much shrimp in them, but the rolls are stuffed with lettuce and the dipping sauce is yummy. The edamame is good, as are the chicken skewers. I usually get a shrimp curry, or the tofu basil which is very spicy. I love them both. My aunt often gets the seafood madness - amazing quality of seafood and big portion for $16. The coconut soup is also good. The paid Thai is my mom's favorite - it's not my favorite dish, but as pad thai goes, it's pretty legit. I'll keep coming back as long as they stay open! Nom noms :) read more

We always get the same thing -- chicken eggplant and pad thai. That's our tradition when we're too tired to make dinner and need a rescue. The chicken eggplant has ground chicken! It's amazing. My husband and I had ordered from this place a couple of times and had dined in before. The food was good during our previous visits, but last time we ordered in my husband had a large black hair in his Pad Thai. We called to let the staff know, they apologized and said that there would be a credit added to the account under the phone number for next time we order....so fast forward to the next time we decide to give it a try, the staff says there is no record an issue and there is nothing they can do. Wow. Really good Thai food - what a surprise in the burbs of Boston. I live in a large West Coast city and have eaten a lot of Thai food in my day. This is the real deal here. tl:dr: Food is acceptable, do not try to call or order delivery on line. I have ordered from this restaurant before, but in person. Food is good, not totally spectacular, but good. Do not try to order over the phone for takeout, and do not even attempt to use their delivery service. I tried to use it, took over an hour and when I tried calling back at 45 minutes, one hour, and one hour and fifteen minutes I was hung up on twice. And when the food arrived, the item which was ordered gluten free was not marked gluten free. Tried calling to no avail.
