We were seated quickly and then the service stalled a bit. Once we ordered the food and drinks, they came out quickly. We started with a dim sum platter (8 pieces of shrimp and scallop). Followed with some Zhen Jiang ribs in thick sweet sauce and fried coconut shrimp. We probably would have ordered more if we saw our waiter, but he disappeared for awhile. There were five beers on tap, but we got some cocktails instead, which were were quite flavorful -- Lychee martini and Tokyo Sour. The decor of the bar and interior had some very nice Chinese flair. When we getting ready to leave it started to thunderstorm. A waiter got an outside patio (huge) umbrella to escort everyone to their cars. If you are like me and enjoy authentic Chinese food, you're going to Chili Crab Boca We opted for something light and easy tonight. The 1st picture is their lemon prawns. This dish was so flavorful. It was amazing. We also tried their vegetable Shanghai noodles along with some dim sum. Pictured are both shrimp and scallop dumplings. I can't wait to go back to try their Cantonese BBQ ribs, roast pork, and of course the Peking duck & crabs. The servers did wear masks and the tables were spread out. 5 star all the way from the first greeting till we got the bill. Everything was simply amazing! Started with the bite sized ribs. So good!! Then friends ordered the sea bass and kung pow chicken no veggies. Everything came out perfect and the flavors are to die for. Hubby and I split the Peking duck, and I felt like I was back in Chinatown in New York City! The skin was crispy and it came with sliced scallions, hoisin sauce, sliced cucumbers, and the thinnest homemade pancakes I've ever had that were simply amazing and did not break! Delicious food, hospitable service, and a cute interior make this one of the places I will definitely keep coming back to on every future trip to Boca. The pompano in sweet soy sauce has a crispy, crunchy exterior and moist and delicate flesh. The Taiwanese popcorn chicken is simple fried goodness, seasoned only with salt and pepper, and garnished with Taiwanese basil. It is served with the appropriately named yummy yummy sauce. My personal favorite dish is the honey pepper prawns. The heat from the black peppercorns and the sweetness of the honey give this dish a delightful flavor profile. Service is truly hospitable. I temporarily moved to Boca a couple of months ago from Orlando. I was craving good Asian seafood entrees and came across Chili Crab. I was truly underwhelmed with the food here. Service was great. Ambience is fine. But the food was not up to par. I was very much looking forward to eating here. The coconut shrimp was not tasty whatsoever :( and I love coconut shrimp! The Thai basil chicken rice was not good either. It tasted like just soy sauce chicken fried rice. The usual aromatic of basil taste and flavors was not present at all. The shrimp rice (which I believe it was curry) was the only thing my mother and I enjoyed. I absolutely plan to give this place another shot. read more

I would first like to caveat that we went to the establishment on christmas day. We made reservations over two weeks in advance. However, when we got there they were not honoring reservations. It took 30 minutes just to put our name on the list for a table. We sat down and ordered. Food came out scattered and in the wrong order. First my husbands duck came out then his soup. It took over 70 minutes for my scallion pancakes appetizer to come out after that finally my fish meal was served. This place is legit and authentic. Only complaint is that it's pretty expensive but given the cost of goods these days, it's expected. We had Crispy Shrimp rolls, fried pork dumplings, Garlic Chili Crab and Peking Duck, plus a few beers. The crab is excellent, I've had this garlic version and ma'la' (sp?). The duck is very good and recommended. They use quality ingredient and the house-made pancakes are light and sturdy. Next time I go, I'll order soup dumplings for sure - we saw the owner making them by hand, per order. They are a stand alone building and they have plenty of parking. While the employees are all nice people, the food is average, at best, and way overpriced. I don't mind paying $40 for a full red snapper for something special, but the sauce lacked subtlety and the portion size was minuscule. Similarly, the chili chicken was intolerably bad. I love spicy food and can tolerate spice levels far beyond what most Americans can consume. Yet, even for me, the chili chicken lacked any flavor beyond the chilis. And the proportion of chicken to chili should be reversed; there's too little chicken and too much chili. At $28, the price is insulting. The Kung po chicken was fine, but really no better than Panda, arguably worse. And at $25, it is a ripoff. The gyoza was delicious and their homemade dipping sauces are outstanding. The servers were nice but overwhelmed (Xmas Eve, so I'll cut them some slack. I regret coming, but now understand why they had last minute availability. Needless to say, I won't return. read more

Total, authentic perfection. My son and I went on a Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock so it was very quiet. The service was great; so polite and humble, offering valuable advice on what to order when asked suggestions. We ordered the soup dumplings, which were utter perfection. Homemade, piping hot, with tons of flavor. The last time I had these was in Chinatown, New York, and I honestly think these were better. These were followed by the crispy duck, half order. It came with scallions and cucumber accompanied by delicious paper thin pancakes to wrap everything up for the perfect bite: Total perfection. The duck was so juicy on the inside and so crispy on the outside. The best was a side order that I ordered only as a side to ensure we didn't leave hungry; chicken fried rice, best I've ever had. The flavor was so rich. The charcoal undertones made for a deep, obsession worthy smoky excellent dish. If you are looking for some place that's an "Asian" American fast food chain, this is not the place for you. This is authentic classic Chinese made with skill. Not inexpensive, but so well worth it. A whole lot of peas, yes a lot of peas and chopped carrots in a dark tasteless gravy . Strangest soup I have ever had. We ordered the shrimp cilantro dumplings, but instead got chicken dumplings . I checked the receipt and it said Shrimp cilantro dumplings. The chicken dumplings were quite doughy. Do not order them ever. And of course we had half a PekingDuck, one of the most popular items. It came with six pancakes that were perfect. They were nice and thin and did not fall apart. Slices of cucumber and green onion with hoisin sauce complemented the duck. But the duck did not have the usual Peking flavor and lacked a bit of crispiness. We will not be returning. read more

That such a wonderful restaurant exists in the culinary wasteland of Palm Beach County is something of a miracle. Chili Crab serves perfectly authentic Chinese cuisine that is dazzling and memorable. Their peking duck is as good as any I've had. Their duck bun at $20 (makes 4 buns) - is a great lunchtime value. Their dumplings are exceptional and while I can only speak of a very original fish dish lifted by deep maple flavours - all the fish on other tables looked great. You are transported and submerged into the culture as soon as you walk in the door. We were greeted by the owner who was so nice and welcoming. Our group order quite a bit of food! We were so excited to try it. First of all, the quality and craftsmanship that goes into the dishes is amazing. The spices and techniques are outstanding. We made it to the newest restaurant in the neighborhood, Chili Crab! They are still in the middle of their soft open, so not everything is quite set up. That seemed like a plus to me, as it wouldn't be busy yet. We walked in and were told to sit wherever we liked. We grabbed a spot that was half booth and half table. We took some time to look over the menu, which also gave time to appreciate the interior of Chili Crab. There was a lot going on, which I mean as a compliment. The exterior walls had a brick wall impressionistic design; the ceiling had lowered rectangles with recessed lighting; and the bar was an elaborate wood design that set itself apart from the rest of the dining room. My impression was that a lot of thought and effort went into all the different ideas being put in place. and definitely there was a big cost put in that meant the restaurant wasn't looking to be there just a few months. We knew pretty quick we were going to get some bites and then focus on some Peking duck. We didn't get any specialty drinks as they weren't set up for that yet. The meal was great. the assortments of dumplings we had first were tasty and served in a special wooden box. The duck was fantastic. We ran out of the tortillas that come with it but they brought more out for us.. We usually have leftovers but not much was left this time. next time, the crab! read more

I've been soooooo excited to check this place out but haven't had a chance until last night which worked out beautifully so we finally got to try. Upon arrival the place has lots of different and fun decor, lots of seating options for party of 4 but for 6 there was one rectangular table in the center. Restaurant had two other small tables occupied when we came in. Waitress was very pushy on us order crab or lobster and they'd be able to customize it however we'd like. Except everything was MP and very fuzzy when answering. We ordered a few different fried rices and they were good, seasoned a little differently than your typical. We tried fried calamari (gross, onions underneath weren't cooked through batter was same as funnel cake so it was soft and sweet also undercooked), BBQ Ribs were good cooked in Chinese bbq sticky sweet sauce, dim sum platter had two of each and that was steamed beautifully. Entree time; Shanghai noodles was a gloried lo mein with a few strings of noodles and largely chopped veggies, Chilean sea bass .... My most favorite fish that they destroyed. They cut into very thin slices and also fried in the same funnel cake batter and then stir fried quickly in brown sauce (honestly ... I know my sea bass this tasted more like tilapia than sea bass the sweetness of the batter killed the taste). Lobster with ginger and scallion sauce, ginger was cut into cubes instead of thin shred and lobster was thrown into a lot of baking powder to make it puffier than lead on it didn't have the authenticity of what was suppose to be a traditional delicious dish. Gai Lan veggie was just wok stir fried quickly in chunky ginger and a little salt, best part of the meal was dessert: fried banana with freezer burnt ice cream. read more

Chili Crab, soft opening in East Boca. Legit Sichuan and Hong Kong-style food with Malaysian specialties. Possibly too legit for this crowd and will likely need menu modifications not too far in the future. The location is the former site of Troy's BBQ (and before that, Park Avenue BBQ Grill) on Dixie Highway. It's a dedicated building that has a decent-sized parking lot and while not far at all from the main drag of Mizner and Palmetto Park Road where most of the other restaurant businesses are, it is isolated from thet downtown area. It has a single opening to the lot that is not well lit at night, so you can quickly drive past it and find yourself having to turn around, which we did. It's not the restaurant's fault -- the landlord and the town hasn't been cooperative in improving visibility of the business. The interior is totally transformed from the BBQ place and there is some outdoor seating available on the patio. Rachel said the decor reminded her of Eatthai in Delray, it's definitely got that modern Asian restaurant vibe to it. We tried a few different dishes from their soft launch menu, which is only a fraction of the size of the main menu on the website. It also doesn't have full descriptors for everything and the staff doesn't seem as fluent with it as they need to be yet. Dim sum: all made in-house by chef-owner Alan. Har Gow shrimp dumplings are excellent, with heavy shrimp content, crystal thin skins. Pan-fried Chicken bao with cornstarch slurry skirt is also delicious. Curry shrimp fried rice: it doesn't look like much, from the photo it seems like a pedestrian shrimp fried rice, but it is CRAZY spicy. Like no way in hell is this part of Boca ready for that level of spicy. I think he is going to need to tone it down. Ma La Chili Crab: the flavor is closer to Lao Gan Ma chili crisp than it is "Ma La". We didn't get a heavy Sichuan peppercorn hit with this, but after the fried rice very few things are gonna be that hot. He's using blue crabs for this currently for a lack of being able to get bigger crabs. I'd like this dish better with jumbo shrimp, or lobster, but the flavor of the prep is good. Lemon shrimp: this was suggested by Alan as a foil to the super spicy fried rice. Batter fried, in cornstarch coating, with a very lemony but sweet sauce. We liked it, and more along the lines of what the locals are probably going to want here. Sautéed lettuce with garlic: surprisingly good simple vegetable dish. Would order again. I was able to snap some photos of the Peking duck which was being prepped and it looks legit, so I'd order this as well. Overall it's a solid Chinese restaurant and I'm looking forward to trying some of the other stuff -- but he's got a bunch of very spicy and pungent things on his menu that I'm not sure the locals are going to be crazy about. Clearly he is a talented Cantonese and Sichuan cook so he will probably have to adjust things based on local tastes and what the overall reaction to his food is. read more

Run to Chili Crab!! We have been patiently waiting for them to open and we were thrilled to go for dinner tonight. My fiancé has been a restaurant owner and Chef for over 30 years & just opened a restaurant in Boca Raton. He LOVES Chinese food and especially spicy Chinese food. We plan to work our way through the menu. Incredible dim sum & the freshest shrimp. Fiance said the Taiwanese popcorn chicken was very moist & served with 2 sauces. This rating is relative to other Chinese restaurants in southern Florida. This place is definitely the most authentic non-Cantonese Chinese restaurant in South Florida. It is new and does not have everything on the menu yet but what is available has been mostly very good so far. Dim sum items here are particularly strong. They are actually even better than the dedicated dimsum places further west in Sunrise and in Pembroke Pines. Selection and variety of dim sum is not as high though. Prices for dimsum here are also way higher so you pay for the quality. Fried fish was great here. Mala chili crab was also good but as another reviewer said, it does not have a lot of Mala flavor, it's just regular spicy. You do not get the tingley numbing Mala sensation. Peking Duck here is just ok. The duck skin is nice and crispy but the meat is dry. The pancake is perfect though. Hopefully this place sticks around because it's the best chinese restaurant east of the turnpike for sure. I'd say it's the best in all of South Florida but it's hard to compare a place That serves primarily sichuan food vs a HK style restaurant which is way more common. Hopefully they do not water down the menu to cater to the older American palate. There are enough Chinese take out places for that.
