We had a good lunch here. Although at first it was a bit disconcerting -- the staff is Spanish not Asian. And we weren't sure about how our food would arrive. Not to worry as everything turned out fine. We had been to this shopping center on the west side of 441 for a number of other restaurants. There's parking near by and an easy walk to small restaurant. We came for lunch. There was a special lunch menu with a lot of choices on it. I got a shrimp stir fry. The dish came with a choice of soup or salad. I got their clear soup with mushrooms. It had some crunchy bits on top (garlic? Dried onions?) and was excellent. My stir fry had a lot of shrimp over a big pile of veggies along with a mound of white rice. The portion was large enough to have a lot of leftovers. My husband got one of their lunch sushi bar combos. His sushi and sashimi also had a half California roll, a fried gyoza, and a fried spring roll. He chose salad for his starter. The only unusual (strange?) part was their ginger dressing that he said tasted like it had ketchup in it. Otherwise, his meal was quite good. Again, another very large portion. In short: Service was fine. Staff was friendly. Portions were large. Food was good. Prices were quite reasonable for quantity. And yes, we'd go back.

The crispy rice appetizer is a star dish, and we order it during every visit. The food is well prepared and fresh, with a nice presentation. It's our go-to local sushi restaurant.

I don't hang out in Boca often so I'm not confident recommending places to eat there. Sumo had good reviews across the board on multiple sites so I gave it a shot. It is a very low key spot hidden in the corner of a plaza. On a Friday night, the place was steady but not crowded, and we were able to sit at a table immediately. Reggae music played in the background while a cool breeze wafted in from the open door. Inside seating is quaint but they make good use of a small space. There were plenty of sushi rolls to choose from, and I was pleasantly surprised at the affordability of the prices, not at all up to the usual Boca price point. We started with a wahoo ceviche and a seaweed salad. Portions were quite large and I was glad I only ordered one roll for dinner as I was pretty stuffed by the end of the meal. The wahoo was ok, but I didn't feel like the fish was super fresh, but I did enjoy the seaweed salad - it wasn't drowning in sauce. I had the Jasmin roll which included Spicy tuna, avo and jalapenos, inside-out topped with seared salmon, masago, cilantro sauce, and kimchee sauce. It was supposed to have eel but they were kind enough to substitute it with more salmon instead per my request. I loved that the sauces on the roll were kept at a minimum as well as it defeats the purpose for me if I'm eating sushi and can't even taste the fish. It was beautifully presented and my husband and I were very satisfied with our experience. Looking forward to coming back for another chill date night to try out more of their menu.

Quality of the sushi tonight was fresh & savory; each roll packed an unami punch; and the rolls were sumo size indeed!

Went to grab sushi with family tonight after picking Mom from the brightline station. Looking for something different for a change; we tried Sumo Sushi near Mission Bay. Going inside, there was a decent amount of seating inside, and no wait tonight. For dinner, we ordered 1x ginger salad, 1x fantasy roll, 1x saporo roll, and 1x some tempura shrimp roll. Moving on with my review, the food tonight was pretty tasty. For starters, the salad possessed fresh chopped greens/veggies and a vibrant tangy ginger dressing. As for the sushi, we found the rolls to be kinda pricey, HOWEVER, they were at least sumo size! In addition, the quality of the fish tonight was fresh & savory; and, each roll packed an unami punch. Moreover, our server was attentive and friendly. Overall, we had a pleasant evening at the Sumo Japanese restaurant as the sushi was plentiful and delicious. My final verdict would be a 4.5. Definitely be open to come here again.

This unassuming Japanese restaurant called Sumo is located near Glades Rd off 441 in Boca Raton. It is next to a ramen restaurant and Padrinos and has outdoor seating. It has an extensive menu including hibachi dishes. I decided to have the sushi/combination. The server who was very friendly and funny, asked which fish I liked the most. I thought it was just conversation and was expecting chefs choice. To my surprise the combination included my favorite fish. The pi fed were fresh and did NOT skimp on the serving. All delicious. . I also ordered a side order of eel hand roll. I highly recommend this restaurant if you happen to be in Boca Raton.

Yukko! Enough TUNA and SALMON... they must have other fish to feed us!!!! まずい)

I got the sushi deluxe and an eel roll. Eel roll was ok at best, but the sushi deluxe was a joke. 9 "assorted" pieces of sushi, and it was ALL tuna and salmon pieces (seriously?)... with a salmon, tuna and crab roll (more tuna and salmon gimme a break!). The fish was mediocre, and in a rare move for me, I couldn't finish it all, had to choke down some if it. My mom got the Habachi Steak, which was ok, little tough, couple unedible pieces... sauce was good. My daughters eel roll was ok, and her fried rice was "meh", she didnt even want to take the leftovers home (sadly our dog is in NYC) Will not be coming here again :( mazui!

New location for Sumo Sushi in Mission Bay Boca. I ordered a Spicy Tuna Roll & a Spicy Krab Roll. I LOVE the sushi here as the Spicy Tuna actually has a little kick. Bro... almost all the Spicy Tuna rolls I've had at other places have no kick at all. The Spicy Krab roll. Ahhhhh I'm so glad... why? Because most places don't even have this roll anymore... and that roll is like the gateway roll. It's the Bud Light of sushi rolls! Sumo, thank you for a great lunch and two excellent rolls which both happen to be my favorite traditional rolls.

As we approached the hidden entrance tucked under a portico, I noticed it was right next to a Jersey Mikes entrance which gave me pause for a second. We had a reservation and were greeted by an extremely pleasant woman who turned out to be our waitress as well. The interior is tight, only about 7-8 tables, a bar and a small kitchen. After speaking with our lovely waitress, we ordered and the food was delivered in courses which was nice for a change. Everything we ordered was freshly prepared and delicious. It turns out the single person in the kitchen is the owner. He hand prepares every dish and accompaniment. Great food, great service and the staff were all very pleasant. A great dining experience- we will be back.

Before I talk about the food I want to say that the young lady that was the bartender and server was so friendly and gave great suggestions. The restaurant is small, however it is beautiful inside and does offer outdoor seating as well. Now for the food. They bring out fresh hot rolls with a small plate of cheese pesto and balsamic drizzle. Outstanding!!!!! We came to find out the owner who is the chef, his wife is a pastry chef and makes the bread and desserts. To start we had the Spanish chargrilled octopus. I know I have said this before about other restaurants, but I can truly say hands-down. This was the freshest, most tender, and one of the most flavorful grilled octopus that we have had. It came with a mixture of capers, potatoes, and vegetables in an amazing sauce. Truly fantastic. For dinner, my wife had the blackened yellowtail snapper in curry sauce, and I had the shellfish pan roast. Both were one of a kind dishes. We have never had such great flavor and seafood. Not to mention the amount of food that they put out and the presentation is worthy of awards. My wife's blacked snapper was cooked perfectly had a light blackened coating, and the curry sauce was tremendous. My shellfish were super fresh. Again cooked to perfection, tender, and flavorful. The sauce they were in was amazing. For dessert, we tried their homemade Keylime pie, and this too was top-notch and made fresh. We are planning our next trip to this restaurant and if you actually want a true fine, dining seafood experience you have to try this spot. I'm going to say it is priced accordingly for the true quality of food, the amount you are served and the presentation. If you are looking for a fried shrimp basket or fish and chips, this is not the type of restaurant for you. This is upscale seafood, and a true upscale seafood experience. You might want to consider making reservations as they do get busy and as I mentioned earlier, it is a small restaurant.

We were treated like royalty for this dining experience. We were never rushed and there was a lot of time in between the drinks/bread, soup, dinner and then dessert. Someone at the table had the New England clam chowder - he loved it. It looked good. Another thought it might be too salty. I ordered the whole rainbow trout almondine. OMG it was the largest portion of fish I've ever seen presented to me. It came with a huge sweet potato and green beans. Someone else ordered the sword fish and said it was very good and finally someone ordered the pecan crusted salmon which she said was delicious. We sampled three of the desserts - the Key Lime pie is the winner! The prices here are the same as any other nice restaurant. I had always heard they were high -- nope - they're the same as anywhere else you'd eat - totally fair! I'll be back - I doubt I'll wait another year! Sorry, I forgot to get a pic of my dinner - - it was huge and gorgeous.
