It's located across from Mamaroneck High School in a structure from the 1920s that mimics a Chinese pagoda, evocative of early roadside America. Walter's does a booming business and has a long line around lunch time (when I went) but the line does move ultimately. Trust me it's worth the wait! I ordered the Big Walt and a six-count potato puffs. OMG! This dog is something else! First, it's made with pork, beef and veal for a unique flavor, split down the middle, and their signature mustard has a slight, delicious tang to it. The potato puffs are like little buttery puffs of mashed potato with a nice crust. And while waiting for the order to be filled, you can read a sampling of postcards sent to Walter's during various decades. Lots of history in both ambiance and taste that you will love. There's also a parking lot hidden behind the pagoda if you can't find parking along Palmer Ave. So what are you waiting for? Get your buns to Walter's and have a great split dog all snug in a bun!

But last we were in the owner appeared to have instructed the wait staff to come and tell me that outside water bottles were not allowed in the restaurant. I mean it was warm, I have a condition I am battling that requires constant hydration and so I always have a 16 or 20oz water bottle in my hand. I eat out probably 500 times a year for the last say 25 years so say more than 10000 eat outs and have never been hassled about drinking water I had in process to stay healthy, so this is kind of an extreme outlier to me. We haven't been back since and likely won't ever go back even though we live in the neighborhood, since it just so destroyed the vibe to be hassled over a 50 cent bottle of water. We generally tip 30 to 40% even on $100 plus bills so it is just in my view a dumb business decision to hassle over something like that and lose what I would guess is $2500 in revenue from this customer a year. For sure the owner can run the business however he wants, but doubt the hassling behavior is increasing revenue for him.

Don't roll the dice and avoid Evil Scammers/crowded streets and simply order delivery from Crotty's. Any delivery fees from the apps are well worth it. If you are in Iona college or high school there are discounts. If it is walking distance for you I 100% think you should check it out in person too.
