At the time of this review the Gordy's Burger House has a 3.5/5 rating. I think that's about right. Today I had an order of wings and cheeseburger w/ fries. Frankly, I didn't especially love the wings. I got them 'buffalo' style but the sauce wasn't typical buffalo sauce. It was a bit sweet. And I like my wings crispy. These didn't have much crisp. The cheeseburger was very good (American cheese, lettuce, tomato). Lots a char-broil flavor. The pickles on the side could be upgraded, but overall an above-average burger for sure. The fries were excellent nothing fancy just a very good fry. The service fine. Nice enough. Attentive but all-business. Ambiance? Total through back decor. Nostalgic vibes everywhere. GBH feels very neighborhood-y, with hand-written food and drink specials and wood-paneled walls. As someone with kids, I appreciated that the bar was more separate from the dining area. Our waitress was nice. She knew it was important to get kids' food out first. The kid menu has some variety, which I appreciate. I got a beer deal, which always feels like a win. My husband's cheese steak sandwich was pretty mediocre. It needed some more texture and flavor. I wish there had been more salad options. I liked my fried flounder sandwich. The TVs at the booths are both a blessing and a curse - just something to consider as a parent. With the TVs, I found it incredibly hard to make sure my kids actually ate anything vs. watching TV. I have mixed feelings about this Gordy's... and that's why I'm rating them 3 stars My overall experience was okay. There is a lot more on the menu than burgers, but with the name Gordy's Burger House, I expected to be blown away with their burger and I wasn't. Yes it is a grilled burger made with quality meat, and I could definitely taste the grill but it lacked salt or some type of seasoning. It was also cooked medium instead of medium well (requested) so I was grossed out by the bloody drippings after the first bite. The chhese on top was strong just like blue cheese should be. My fries were good and I don't know if the ginger ale was flat or if that brand just wasn't as bubbly as I'm used to. Also, The side of pickles was really good and I wanted/needed more of those. Service was okay. Nothing great, nothing bad. No one greeted me when I walked in so I was able to walk thru both sides. Half the place gave me sports bar vibes and the other half diner. The bar side was more crowded so i chose the diner side, plus the diner side had TVs at each booth. Prices went up from what I saw online so I wasn't expecting to pay $15 for a burger and a handful of fries but you can't put a price on good food so i was cool with it. Outside of lettuce, tomato, and raw onion, all other toppings like bacon($2) or mushrooms ($2) were an additional cost. But in the end no matter what I added on top, I still needed my meat seasoned a little more. Not sure how their other food is. I saw that they also had homemade dessert which I'm always down to try. But for a place named Gordy's Burger House, I really need them to make their burgers the Star of the menu!!! read more

We loved Gordy's Burger House! The food is terrific. The onion rings are the best I've ever had. The patrons were so friendly that it felt like I was at my Club. I parked in strip mall next door until I noticed the MANY signs in Gordy's that they would tow. One of the patrons noticed a spot in front was open and ran out in single digit weather, leaving his lunch to get cold, to save the spot for me to park. He stopped oncoming traffic to help me and the owner of Gordy's had also come out to pull his car out of his space to give me ample room to quickly slip into the space. Thank you guys for your above and beyond help. I love that neighborhood-like atmosphere and I'll definitely be back (even though I have to come down from Connecticut) read more

So, I was supposed to write this review two weeks ago, but I'm still recovering from the deliciousness overload I experienced at Gordy's Burger House. Me and my BF or on our way to Trader Joe's on a bright and sunny Saturday afternoon, but realized that we were starving, and it's not a good idea to shop (especially at TJ's) on an empty stomach. I decided to look on trustee or Yelp for suggestions in that area, which is totally unfamiliar to me. I looked at the stars and thought, "mediocre," so I read a few reviews that sort of contradicted the stars. We were hungry and decided to give it a chance regardless. The outside was nothing impressive... We entered what looked like a low-key old school Irish bar. That was just the far side of the establishment. A friendly gentleman escorted us to opposite of the bar to the restaurant side of the establishment, which had much brighter lighting. The menu had what appeared to be typical diner fare, but with a little extra here and there. I was tempted to order a milkshake, but I'm so glad I did not! Let me explain... As far as the burgers are concerned, you had an option of what I think was an 8 ounce burger, or an 11 ounce burger. Don't forget we were hungry, so 11 ounces for me and my boo. We started with soup, and were surprised by the fresh, unsalty rich flavor. I can go into great detail about the French onion soup that I ate two weeks ago because it was so delicious, but I recommend that you go and see for yourself. So those burgers took some time, but not too much, and came out all pretty and shit. And yes, I took pictures! LOL! So so good... juicy, not greasy, well seasoned, and completely filling. I ate half and that was strenuous. My BF's sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly and were very enjoyable. The place was relatively quiet on both sides, except for the family with small children. Nevertheless, the kids were great, the bar side it was quiet with two or three day drinkers, and our server was really pleasant and accommodating. I almost forgot... thumbs up for the great prices! Perhaps this will be our out of the way, Saturday morning/afternoon spot where we pig out every so often when we make the occasional trip outside of NYC on the way to Trader Joe's. I went back to Gordy's yesterday for my bacon Swiss cheeseburger fix, and for some reason, it tasted better than ever. My wife had the Rigatoni with broccoli rabe and sausages which she loved very much. I gotta go back there and sit at the bar with some beers and other types of food. Sunday--July 2, 2023--We just left and I paid for NOTHING. From outside we hear kids screaming. We walk in and there are two small kids running through the restaurant screaming like they're at a playground running around the restaurant through the bar. The place was empty so I guess they thought it was okay! It's not okay. You get the idea. These screaming kids finally end up on the bar side. The man they were with (I'm assuming their dad) was sitting at the bar. With this screaming continuing, the waitress comes over and closes the door to the bar. We can still hear them but at least not as loud. Honestly, I wanted to leave. I'm not up for someone else's kids screaming and running around while I'm trying to eat. Our food arrives. We are eating maybe five minutes. Those two kids break out from the bar area and again are running through the restaurant screaming their heads off! Now they're at the door right opposite our table. Are you kidding me with this? My mother raises her voices (honestly because they were screaming so loud you have to raise your voice!) and says "Hey, hey...you don't do this here!" The bar door opens. I can hear the dad saying something to correct them. Two seconds later the waitress with the blue hair (I didn't see a name tag and I didn't get her name) comes over, puts her hand out and says to my mother "don't yell at someone else's children!" Excuse me but you don't speak to an elderly person the way this waitress did. That is not acceptable and it was just downright rude and disrespectful. I was expecting an "oh sorry for that" or "I'm sorry the kids are loud we'll try to keep them on the other side" something to that effect. But no. The waitress with the blue hair decides to correct my mother! Oh girl. . .that's a hell no! I jumped in. Not happening. You are not going to talk to my mother like that. I said, "Excuse me! We are paying customers trying to enjoy a meal in your restaurant. I am not here paying for a meal to listen to someone else's kids running around screaming like lunatics. This is not a place for that." The look on her face was one of shock! Her eyes just about popped out of her head. I guess she didn't expect me to say anything. She said again "but you don't have the right to yell at someone else's kids like that!" I said again, "I absolutely have the right to say something when I am in a restaurant trying to eat a meal and have conversation and I cannot because someone else's kids are screaming while I'm trying to eat. I am paying for a meal!" She looked at me like this is something so foreign to her! Where is your customer service??? I said "You know what? Get the manager. I'm not paying for this meal. I'm not paying to listen to this." She was like okay...okay. She came back with to-go containers. I said, "No I don't want your food. I'm not paying for this food. I'll pay for the salad my son ate." Then we just left and didn't pay for anything. At minimum I expected the waitress to apologize for the noise and the screaming. I did not expect her to talk to my mother like that! Not happening. I was going to spend about $90 maybe $100 between the meals and dessert, but that did not happen. Needless to say we will never be going back to Gordy's again. read more

Well, tonight I am back for the third time in 4 nights. Last night, I brought my brother-in-law to see and taste for himself the magnificent wings and burger. He agreed with my last review. Tonight's fare is the NY Strip Steak, medium well, baked potatoe with butter and sour cream, steamed broccoli and Gordy's Famous Southern Cole Slaw. He says it's southern if you put onions in it. He told me the other ingredients, but you will have to ask him yourself. I don't want to reveal trade secrets! The steak is cooked well. I didn't need the A1 that sits on the table. The meat was tender and as a steak should be. The sides are also good. The broccoli wasn't overcooked. The cole slaw is delicious. The baked potatoe is a baked potatoe. Lol. You will be pleased with this combination as it is delicious and each item complements the others. Gordy's continues to please and is well woth the trip. Did I mention the prices are great? Don't tell Gordy, we want the prices to stay reasonable for such good, wholesome food. And say Hello to Susanna, his wife. I decided to update my review and raise their rating. I do believe their burgers are tasting much better these days. I stopped ordering from them for a long time, but about 6 months ago I started ordering their burgers again and I find them to be much more delicious now than in the past. Since then, I've been ordering burgers from them a few times a month. My father, who is the pickiest man on the planet when it comes to burgers, actually loves their burgers and makes me order from them every time he comes by. I've also ordered a few other items on their menu, but it's all just basic bar food really, and pretty limited in choices. I do have to be honest though and say that this place is still in need of a major update, and their bar area smells kinda funny. About a month ago I went into their bar area to pick up my order (I was wearing my face mask), and I could still smell that unpleasant smell that those old, dingy bars have. It smells like spoiled beer or something...can't really explain it. I also found the bartender (older gentleman) to be rather discourteous, but maybe he was just having a bad day. Horrible Horrible service. Took 3 weeks to get a hold of Gordy- who once I spoke to him called me "dear" in a condescending manner and raised his voice. My husband and I have called multiple times to get resolution on a delivered burger that was pretty much raw (I ordered it med as I am pregnant) and nasty uncooked thick diner fries (I ordered shoestring fries) He then also told me why was I wasting my time on $50. Mind you- $50 for 2 burgers and fries. Another show of horrible customer service... No one else at this establishment would help us when we called- they told us they didnt know what to do- and to finally speak to the owner of the establishment and be screamed of made rhe whole experience even worse. I got a delivery today, a cheeseburger with mushrooms and onions and french fries... the food was ice cold like it's been sitting there. Meanwhile, the delivery was quick so that makes you wonder if they have them just there waiting. The mushrooms were like as if they just came out of the refrigerator. My bread was so soggy like I said, it's because it was probably sitting there, the french fries were so greasy they had no flavor and again they were iced cold. So this bar has been down the block from me for literally my whole life...restaurants and businesses came and went....and some how this mysterious little old school looking Burger place was still standing. I recently noticed that they had delivery and pickup ordering on Grubhub, and decided to order some buffalo wings and sweet potato fries on Super Bowl Sunday for myself... since I wasn't planning on going to or doing a whole party this year...my order was ready in about 35 minuets and I walked in the dark outdated bar to get my food...the bartender handed me the wrong meal (which I noticed in the car) and I came back and I think the manager, made sure my order was correct. The wings were pretty good they had like a sweet flavor which isn't exactly what I look for in buffalo wings but also mildly spicy...the sweet potato fries were actually amazing and fresh exactly what I was looking for. I will probably order pick up again (definitely fries again) because like other people said, this place is underrated food wise..but they 100% need to update this place, it looks musty and old school and I don't think I would ever actually eat in here or hang out. read more

This is a great place for Burgers !! Make sure you get the 12oz Burger ! My Father owned Fran-Lee Burger House in Mt. Vernon and Gordy's has Burgers that are just as good ! Gordy's has the charbroil open flame grill and you see the flames flare up when they flip the Burgers, this gives them that great flavor and juiciness !!! They serve the Burgers on a Kaiser Roll and have a wide variety of toppings. The Burgers come with shoestring fries, but you can get Sweet Potato fries for a small upcharge. Heidi makes a delicious, light and so creamy cheesecake that you simply must order for dessert !! Great booths that seat 6 and each booth has it's own TV !!!!! Was surprised by such mixed reviews and decided to try it out in search for a great burger place. I found it! We ordered three burgers, each with their own directions and toppings and got exactly what we asked for. These burgers were perfectly cooked to a medium, still pink at center, and the flavor was delicious! It's almost an addictive open grill flavor, a little smokey, and served in a soft fresh Kaiser roll that can handle the size of this big burger. Served with shoestring fries and coleslaw, we were quite content! The Buffalo chicken sandwich was oozing with sauce and quite delicious as well. Best of all may have been their French onion soup! Great food across the board worthy of five stars. The missing star is for the looks of this place- not just antiquated, but in dire need of a facelift. I hesitated to even go in and give it a try just based on its dingey exterior. Went to Gordy's tonight June 17th at 5:30 with a friend. I am 30 and my friend is 26 we were excited to catch up and have a drink with our meal. We both ordered beers and were asked for ID by the waitress.The waitress came back over to our table and asked for a second form of ID. We both gave her credit cards and my friend gave her another picture ID. The waitress returned back to our table to and says she can't serve us because she has a bad feeling. She was the only one working and we couldn't talk to a manager.This was extremely disappointing as we were both looking forward to have a drink with our dinner. If you ever want a beer and you're way over 21, definitely don't come here. ID was asked which was obviously protocol and understandable. Then my friend and I (who is 30 and myself being 26) get asked for more identification. We both provide credit cards and I add my school ID. I asked if their machine for identifying our IDs were broken and she said "no, I'm the one checking them" Our waitress takes this and comes back to say "she cannot serve us because she has this bad feeling?" And that there was also a detective that walked out at the same time. What more could we have provided, we live around the area..so again if you want a beer..bring your passport peoples. This place is highly underrated. Staff are very friendly. I would take our three kids here when they were all in high chairs, and they would always make a mess. Servers are always friendly and never seem surly or frazzled. They have a TV in every booth which is great for the kids. The food is served quickly and the burgers are, in my opinion, even better than Pipers Kilt. They even have all these family discounts and special rates, which the waitresses are always very good about simply applying to the bill. I never even ask, they just let me know. They don't always have lunch or dinner specials, but I have had good luck on the few times I didn't order a burger. Once went there with my uncle and they had a steak special for 10 bucks. I wasnt in the mood for a burger so I tried it. I steadied myself that it couldn't possibly be good. I was wrong. It was great. Another time they had steamers, and they were also fantastic. A lot of people enjoy that you can order a beer or stiff drink even though it is a true family restaurant. Great menu to appease any child, and booze to soothe the most weary adult. It seems like they are very content with their business. They never advertise. The bar closes very early (I presume they don't want the hassles that come with being open late). They don't do delivery and one could even drive by the place and never think twice as it is so non-descript. Only issue is parking stinks, and if you have to cross New Rochelle Road at rush hour with kids, it's not fun. Husband and I were in Manhattan for our very first time late last month and returned back to LA early May. Sometime during our trip we rented car and drove to Boston. During our drive we decided to grab some lunch. So we just Yelp'd restaurants close by and just did an eenie meenie minee mo and decided on Gordy's. What a pleasant surprise! My husband chose the Shrimp and I knew I wanted a burger. Wow, was I sooo glad I did. I have had many a burger and this was pretty darn amazing. The meat was really good. I had the burger with bleu cheese, and because the meat was so tasty and the potato bun was perfect it would have been an absolute waste to add any condiments or anything else. I can not say that for any other burger I have ever had. AMAZING BURGER!!!! We plan to return to Manhattan again in the near future and Gordy's burger is definitely on my list of must go back to have that delicious burger. read more
