This is my first time saying this about any restaurant: horrible. Garbage servers. Zero people skills. It felt like simply ordering my food made the waitress roll her eyes. And all I did was say "Can I please get the Ribeye. Medium-well please." It wasn't busy at all, probably just how they like it. The water cups look ancient, had small particles of food on the inside of the glass and tasted like moldy food. Took a sip hoping for the best and spat it out within a split-second before my brain could even catch up to how disgusting it was. I received my Bloody Mary with no garnishing at all. The waitress simply came out and said that none of the garnishes nor salt was available (really, even the salt?) because of how late it was (9:15 PM on a Sunday). I wouldn't have minded if I was informed beforehand; I would have ordered a different drink. She told me--with all the irritation in the world in her voice, tense brows and wide-open glaring eyes--that she could bring me out a celery stick and a pickle (if you could do that, why didn't you just do it the first time?). I said that at the least, I would be happy to pay for my drink if she could do that. 1 minute later, the bartender quickly comes by (at a much quicker pace than when first seating us), very briefly and passive-aggressively plants another cup with a salted rim and a probably past-the-expiration wedge of lime on the rim onto our table, as if to say "here you f*ing go!". No celery or pickle, which is what the waitress said would be brought out. I was just amazed that they actually had the salt, despite being told it was "unavailable". I've had wrong orders given to me before, but how do you screw up a stick of celery and a slice of pickle? Atrocious customer service. It took us about 10 seconds to decide to immediately leave. I told the bartender to cancel our orders and we promptly left. I'm genuinely disgusted by their behavior and if ever see either one of them working in there again (if I EVER am desperate enough to eat or drink there EVER again), then I'll know not to waste another second in that restaurant. This is what happens when you skip or don't take seriously the employee training videos or if you just hate your job or people in general. Please, save yourselves. If you expect to walk out of that restaurant with any dignity left, just don't walk in! Now when I think of this Chili's location, I just think of: chilly, like as in cold-hearted. read more

Horrible service. The place was nearly empty when we arrived as a family of five at 11:30am. We were seated in the tightest spot and waited quite some time before our server came over (the hostess came by twice to check on us). We ordered and my husband did not get the correct order. The kids food was dried out. I asked for an extra plate as soon as we got our food so I could share with my three year old. We waited and saw our server coming and going... no plate. Another server came by and asked if we needed anything... yes, please, an extra plate, thanks. She, too, came and went.. still no plate. I used the tiny plate that came under my husbands soup bowl to avoid waiting any longer. (My husband opted to just eat the food he did have instead of making a big deal out of anything...) Both servers came by at least 2x each (almost obnoxiously too much) to ask if everything was okay. Note: neither of them ever brought or offered said plate. We asked for our bill. Server asked "cash or card?" And we answered cash. He proceeded to pull up our bill on the tiny electronic tablet at our table (which, if you have kids, is an instant tantrum-inducing device. I'd say if people want to use this method, it should be an option, but not placed at the ends of every table. My kids got distracted by them just heading to the bathroom as there is one at the end of every table and they have games etc on then...just my opinion, but I could do without them...end rant.) Anyway, he handed the tablet to my husband with credit card option pulled up and said thanks for coming in etc etc.... We were so confused. At this point we just wanted to get out of there. We paid with a card, left a one comment review and bolted. Would not recommend. Took a while to put in our order. Waitress waited ten minutes just to get us drinks. I really don't need that much time. The only good thing was the 2 for $22. It was an appetizer and 2 entrees. The entrees surprisingly came with sides. We got more than we expected and it was delicious. I had the 6oz steak and my son had bacon burger. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever been a part of, which could have been easily figured out. I don't live in town and was traveling through. Here were the issues: - Took 1.5 hours to get food - We had to ask where our food was which initiated the whole thing almost an hour later. - Manager was unhelpful and still made us pay for guacamole since it arrived on time...are you kidding? - Horrible manager: Instead of just owning up to it, blamed it on waitress (thought it made it better) and was clearly unexperienced. - Took 30 minutes after they kept saying it was coming...we were told this 7x, it finally did come 30 mins. later - We were told 2-3 different stories in what happened...just own up to it and make it right. Clearly need some customer service classes. Did I mention we had to pay for the guacamole? This will question if I want to go to Chili's the franchise ever again. Too bad... read more

My husband and i will NEVER return to this restaurant! We were told a 20 min wait. We joined the Yelp waitlist so we could see where we were in line. After AN HOUR of waiting and watching 3 families that came after us be seated, we finally got a text telling us our table was ready. Once we got inside, the hostess tells is it's not our turn. One star is a pretty generous rating for our experience 7/25/20. We were told it would be a 20-25 min wait time which is understandable with limited seating during COVD. We placed our order and 30 min later our waitress said our order would be out soon. People that were seated after us had eaten and leaving! 30 minutes later still no food. We told the hostess and she said we could speak to a manager. Too late!! We have a two hour drive home and have waited over an hour and a half. Ate at McDonald's across the street!! Also clean your bathrooms!!! We will never go to this place again! read more

Disappointed! Decided to go in on Sunday afternoon for the all day happy hour. I had been to another location a few weeks ago and they had a ton of apps and drink specials so I was looking forward to a similar experience here. Unfortunately that did not happen. The bar area was very dirty, countertop was sticky and had crumbs all over, and the I could see some of the kitchen from my seat and it was just as dirty. Apparently, the happy hour offerings are different by location and this one had a very small selection of items. I had my heart seat on fried pickles and margarita flatbread and neither of those were offered at this one. The service was very average and I could not get past the noticeable cleanliness challenges. I will not be going back anytime soon. read more

I usually have good food and service here but not today. I don't know if they were short staffed, but we had to wait 45 minutes to be seated and another 40 minutes to get the appetizers. FORTUNATELY Chili's has a user friendly site and is offering many NEW menu items. Unfortunately, after placing our order it would take quite some time for it to be ready. Fortunately we had plenty to do. Unfortunately, I was a few minutes late picking up the order. FORTUNATELY it wasn't ready. Unfortunately, it was only one item not ready so the food that was ready sat. Fortunately, I was able to observe the servers and the kitchen area. UNFORTUNATELY the counter and kitchen were FILTHY!!! Fortunately, I was able to get out of there within 10 minutes. Unfortunately, the food was cold and tasteless. FORTUNATELY.....I have no reason to nor will I ever go back to Chili's!!!!! read more

Oh dear...this place has fallen on hard times..I will most certainly never spend my money here again. Here is why. 1. Showed up at 5.45pm didn't leave till almost 7.30 pm. The kitchen took about an hour to get our food out. We noshed on chips till then. I realize this isn't fast food but seriously? Baru 66's tasting menu comes out faster than this. 2. Our server just didn't care. At one point I had 5 HUGE empty steins in front of me but he never tried to clear them. I had so many empty steins because my family and I were waiting SO long that we were eating salty chips and drowning our thirst and hunger with cheap soda. 3. They are sneaky with the little tablet on the table. they don't tell you anywhere that it costs $3 to use it. 4. The salsa tasted like tomato puree from the can. Its horrible. Here is what I would say, come here if you plan to drink heavily and the passage of time doesn't matter. If all you are going to do is drink and eat cheap chips then this is a great place to be. If you want to have a good meal with the family and have enough time to something else after your meal - STAY AWAY. read more

A mixed bag of good and NOT so good... We were looking forward to a really good meal on the road after being sickened by KFC the day before. We ended up mostly being disappointed. SERVICE: Right off the bat, the hostess irritated me by wanting my 13 year old daughter and I to sit in the bar instead of the dining room. I don't know why because there were plenty of open tables in both areas. Second, it took 20 minutes for a server to notice us and to greet us. Once we were finally noticed, however, the service was very good. FOOD: The fried pickles were VERY good. I was really impressed by the quality and the flavor of the garlic dill pickles and that they make these in-house. My daughter liked her Pick Two fajitas. The new TNT Burger was pretty gross. I didn't like the combination of flavors. Plus, the burger patty was dry, unseasoned, and way over cooked. My side cup of chilli was okay...pretty boring for a place called Chili's. ZIOSK: Finally, I think the Ziosk wireless menu is pretty stupid. You can look at the menu. But you can only order dessert...not meals or drinks. But you can pay. Oh, and you can play games on the crappy little screen. What's the point? When we were ready to pay, we pushed the "call server" button to see what would happen. The only thing that happened was the red light started to flash on top...no pager or anything like that. Came here with a gift card and was disappoints with the service. Ordered a flatbread which was good but it took forced to get our food and I hated the touch screen table top tablet that was not clean to make it so your waiter didn't have to pay attention to you as much. Table was sticky and place needed a little TLC as far as cleaning. But the service of the disappearing act our waiter did was not cool. Took forever just to get a few flatbreads and salads. So we're visiting to Iowa and unfortunately it took over an hour for our food to arrive, and once it arrived we had cold food that we had to make them take back because it was really that cold. They accommodated is nicely and the staff were friendly and fair. But it's still unacceptable to wait that long and serve cold food. read more

Where to begin. The wait to be seated was decent- didn't take as long as predicted. People were leaving just as fast as they were coming in. After sitting waited, 10-15 minutes to get even our drinks ordered. After getting our drinks we waited probably close to 20 min to take our food order. In the 30 min it took to get our food the server never once checked on us or talked to us. We noticed that he stayed in the back a lot. The server never checked on us to while we had our food. He asked if we needed refills on our drinks and he took that order but never filled it until we had to ask for more drinks but then brought double of everything we asked for. Our food was great. Waited a while to get our check. It's a good thing we didn't have any plans after lunch because they would have been ruined. the server, either doesn't know how to do his job or he doesn't care about his job. So first off I want to say we went there on my Birthday, January 11th 2021 and got excellent food and service from some cute peppy blonde girl that was very pleasant! We went back last night on January 15t and it was a whole different story. First off the take out orders when you walked in through the chilis to go were sitting on a table l, like people really want cold food? We got sat and my boyfriend and I were having a great conversation and the waitress comes and she's alright she said she would bring us another menu cause there was only one and that didn't happen but that's fine, we shared. Ordered our drinks and appetizer and got those and that was great. Ordered our food, no modifications requested at all. We get our food and my burger only comes with a few slices of avocado and some pickle and onion .. it's supposed to have so much more to it... I tell the waitress and she straight up says " well the Alex Santa Fe has the avocado on it". Yes I'm aware but where the rest of the toppings? Lol. She then goes back and asks the kitchen staff and comes back out with a plate of stuff that goes on it and it's still not everything...asks if we need anything else and we said ketchup... She brings an EMPTY bottle of ketchup and says sorry I hit plain for your burger... Um ok then why did u have to ask the wait staff and before that said oh I probably gave you someone else's meal...wow. I then see her talking to another girl and the other girl comes over and is real hesitant to talk to me.and is wearing not what a manager or any staff should probably be wearing. She asks how the food was and I explained the situation and said oh I can make u a whole new burger then blames it on a new cook...not what the waitress said, so should probably get your stories straight. I said well no it's fine just take some off our bill she hesitates again and then rolls he eyes and walks away...but brings back at least a full bottle of ketchup! The waitress never came back so I literally have to stop someone else to ask for a box then when we are leaving we hear wait staff in a booth trash talking us.... So professional...so needless to say the girl got no tip and my boyfriend's food was not good like last time. Super disappointed. Thanks a lot! read more

Wife and I again went to Chili's in Ankeny. Actually first time since last september. Had again their 2 for 22 menu. Chips with salsa and guacamole for the app! Wife had the 6 oz sirloin, loaded mashed potatoes and broccoli. Done to perfection! And she loved it all...just could not eat it all. Myself I went for the Chicken Fajitas... And damn but I was surprised at what all I got! Little bowl with black beans, the best I have ever tasted! Separate little silver container that held a bowl of salsa, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and some cut up veggies. Anyways, told wife, mexican restaurants can learn from Chili's on presentation and how to really serve fajitas! I could not eat it all! I told wife, and she agreed with me...that maybe stop going to mexican places and just go to Chili's for fajitas! read more

Those of you that read my reviews know I rarely slam a place, but this one deserves it. We decided to dine here last night for one of my family members birthdays. Not that it should matter, but we didn't even tell them because we expected nothing for free. I should have known when I walked in and they told me it would be a 10-15 minute wait when there was only two families in front of us, and I could clearly see in my field of view seven clean empty tables that something might go wrong. I'll start off by saying that our waitress was great and this isn't about her. It's about the manger who at best might be 22 years old immature. I ordered a smothered prime rib burrito for $11.29. I can get the same thing across the street at Fuzzy's for nearly half the price, but that is beside the point. This burrito came out with a very small side of beans, and the burrito itself was tiny at best. I started at one end with my steak knife and start going. Three quarters of the way through the tortilla, rice and corn I finally found my first piece of supposed prime rib meat. It was 1/4" thick and 1/2" square at best. So then I dug into the end and found the remaining three pieces. Wow, four pieces of meat in the whole burrito. I ate three then called the waitress over to show her the fourth and final piece. She called the manager over who was very stand off and didn't even offer me an apology. A few minutes later the waitress came over with some cut up cubes of supposed prime rib meat on a small plate and told me the manager took care of this on the bill. I said thank you and decided to eat these cubes of supposed prime rib meat and left the remainder of tortilla, rice and corn on my other plate. When I pulled my bill up on the little table device I saw she gave me a credit of $5.65. She never once stopped back by the table and asked me if I was satisfied, or even apologized once. IMO she has no freakin clue of how to manage a restaurant and needs to be fired. So Chili's I would like to let you formally know that I will NEVER dine at this restaurant ever again. Good luck with this location. I just read some of the other reviews, and it sound like the issues here are common. Just to add, $2.75 for a cup of iced tea???? This is by far my favorite chili's i always get great customer service i recently had the amazing server allison she had a rough night but didn't treat us any differently she was everything you could ask for in a server quick responsive and externally kind. Our server was brand new with clearly very little training. It was her first day, which understandably can be difficult but if she needed this much additional training she should be shadowing not serving alone. first, my drink (a mango tea) was a plain ice tea which was fixable. our appitizer came before our drinks, which sucked because we burnt our mouths with no drink. our order was taken a total of 4 times with confusion. we both got the pick two that included a half order of brisket quasadillas, sausage (hers chicken crispers instead) & it comes with 3 sides of corn, fries, & garlic bread. the server asked multiple times each time she had to retake the order which of the options we wanted. she also wasn't understanding the menu because it automatically includes the 3 sides which she didn't understand/or know. after 25 minutes our food hadn't arrived despite being told she'd check on it multiple times. she made unessisary comments such as " its two boys back there, i could do it faster theyre being boys " we recieved our food & it was incorrect. we were given one large order of the brisket quasadillas, missed 2 of the sides on one order, & were done at this point. after asking for a manager, we were not charged thankfully because we didn't eat anything but the appitizer & went else where. it was hardly an apology from the manager it didn't see like. & not to mention, the co-workers of a brand new server were anything but understanding & helpful as one talked negative of her under his breath while walking away after she asked a question. read more

Never had an issue at Chilis before, til now. We waited an hour for our food & my friends was incorrect but they took back mine also. They brought mine right back & somehow had my friends fixed within 5 minutes. They couldn't even make a mojito. The waiter stated he was only 18 & knew nothing about drinks. He also stated it was just his 3rd day, yet I saw no one helping him or training him. They didn't't even have a decent drink menu. We had to remind our waiter to remove our chips that we were finished with, in addition to our stack of empty glasses. The touch screen system is the only think that kept us occupied. We played 3 full rounds of trivia & 1 full game if life before we even got our food. We also could have reordered drinks or dessert from it, but didn't trust that our waiter would notice. When it came time to pay my friend used the touchscreen but it never printed a receipt & our waiter never came back. My friend was also in process of leaving an honest (yet negative) review when it just stopped & started back at the main menu as if we had never been there. Also my friend was not fond of his sandwich, which is something he always gets. I quite enjoyed my food but within an hour my stomach was not thanking me. Our waiter was very nice & apologetic, but not attentive & didn't appear that busy. We arrived right as the dinner rush was ending. I recommend skipping this Chili's until they get their staff trained & figure out what they're doing. read more

FOOD: DELICIOUS MANAGEMENT: TERRIBLE ALWAYS understaffed, management makes the bartenders wait the food tables in the bar (aka: disaster,) no hostess most of the time, window sills, booth tops and floors are filthy. Did not even earn one star! This was my first experience at Chili's and I was excited to try the food, unfortunately I didn't get the chance. My family and I sat in the restaurant for at least 15 minutes before even being acknowledged by the waiting staff. You have to rate a Chili's based upon their staff. AJ the bartender at this location sold me! I travel 250+ days a year! I've seen more Chili's than most of America. This guy made the difference! He convinced me to give to St. Jude's, not a hard cause to give to, but he convinced me to give more than I might have! Chili's whatever you're doing to reward and motivate guys like this isn't enough, great ambassador of your brand. Lunch with our daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and his fiancé. The six of us were placed at a table designed for four. Note that our grandson is a sizeable rugby player and our son-in-law is even bigger. It was UNCOMFORTABLE at best. The temperature in the restaurant was FREEZING. However, that is probably by design to expedite the departure of the guests since the restaurant was full to BURSTING. I discovered that this is the ONLY Chili's Restaurant that I have been in (and I have visited at LEAST 34 DIFFERENT locations) that does not seem to stock Chivas Regal scotch. I had water instead. It was a challenge and maze-like to get to the restrooms and I was uncertain whether I would make it back without sending out a distress signal. The food was tolerable, the service was marginal, but the company was PRICELESS. Glad that I no longer live in Ankeny (lived there twice before, but now live in Florida) so I will not have to visit this location again. read more

One of the places me and my family like to go to for a treat. Very good service, plays sports on the multiple tv's, appeals to everyone. They have a great menu with lots of choices of everything. They have a checking system at all tables where you can pay right there with a credit card and it will pay and you can leave quick, but why would you leave quick from the great service. They are very flexible with seating where you can push tables together for a big party of people. They also have a good wait time for the food. I recommend. read more

This side to be one of our favorites, and has gone downhill. You walk in and are seated right away but wait 20 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge you. Our food came quickly, but our young children's (5 and 2) didn't come for 20 minutes after we got ours. They were starving so we couldn't eat until theirs came, which in turn meant ours was cold. I used to be a huge fan of Chili's until I dined at this location. My mother and I decided to stop in on our way to a show. We ordered buffalo wing for our appetizer and she had some fish and I had some new burger that was on the menu. It was a pretty quiet afternoon, so it came as a shock when the wings took a half hour to get to our table. The first few bites of the wings had a strange texture to them, and after tearing them apart, we discovered that the chicken was raw. This ruined both of our appetites pretty quickly. When our entrees arrived, they were cold, as if they had been cooked before the wings and left out. I'm a chef myself, and I dead food when I see it. The soggy sauteed vegetables on my burger rendered it impossible to pick up as the bun fell apart as soon as I picked it up. I almost never complain about food, and I'm not a picky eater. Our server comped the wings, and luckily neither of us got sick from them. I tried contacting them on their website a week after what I'll refer to as "the incident" and they didn't even give me the courtesy of a response. I will never be eating at a Chili's again because of the lack of quality at this location. They're making me give them one star, which I think is too generous. read more
