So maybe I am not the right person to give a review, having been to some of the original chili's in Texas. And yes, I have been back to chili's over the years from the late 70s to the 80s, to the baby back rib 90s to the let's be healthy 2000s. But , my experience was bottom of the barrel, except for the valiant service provided by the people working there. The shelton location might as well be a tired backwater rest-stop on the New Jersey turn-pike. Sticky everything, including my wine glass. Worn interior devoid of any atmosphere, let-alone the original intent of chili's. On to the food..over salted, over cooked, devoid of authenticity.. a parody , a cartoon, of southwestern food. My ribs--their famous baby back ribs were cooked to a rubber-like tire consistency. The fries, while tasty, were limp and soggy. My son's fajita's looked like they were just steamed -- no not sizzling, steamed, right out of the microwave. Bright spots? Coleslaw was pretty good, drinks were not bad. And oh god, I feel for the brave folks that were doing their best to serve this "food" with an up-beat attitude. Come on chili's.... You can do better.. bring back your roots! I am pulling for you. I don't see the hype about Chili's, it's not good at all. Every single appetizer we got was disgusting. The guacamole for the bottomless chips were bland and chips were bitter. The cheese fries were soggy and not appetizing at all. The chicken and waffle appetizer was too heavy and overly sweet and the chicken was artificial. Just nasty. The only thing that was pretty ok was my burger but the fries were bitter. I will never ever be back Chili's solely because of the food. Told it was a a 30 minute wait which ended up being over an hour. Time to pay for with my credit card and I didn't want to use the little box on the table Since covid. Tried to give my card to the waiter and he said it was the only way to pay. I was not happy but did it and at the end did not get an option for a paper Receipt. The choice was email or none. I used to like this place, pre-corona. After corona it has been an absolute mess. Take out food is hit or miss, sometimes I get the 3 for 10 and get a salad which is served with an absolute ration of dressing. As for dine in, it's a joke. I hadn't attempted a sit in for awhile, so I figured I'd try it today for NFL Sunday. Was told by the server at the door it was a 20 minute wait. No problem, it's expected. 1st time at this location. There was an hour and fifteen minute wait to seat a party of 8. I believe the part size didn't matter; with seating restrictions and the amount of people out that night attributed to the wait time. I love the wait list system. It was here on Yelp, you can keep track of where you are on the list with an estimate of the time left. I was so pleased with the staff here. Firstly, Chantel, the manager ( found out she was a manager in training) really set the tone for great hospitality. We were not comfortable with our initial seating arrangement and she was so calm and understanding. The place was very busy and she quickly got us seated in an area that accommodated us way better. Megan our waitress was top notch! She knew the menu very well. She took our orders super quick and was organized. We had a few pre teens who kept changing their minds as well as a toddler. I can't remember eating at a Chilli's before. I must say it's way better than apple bee's. The drinks here are better ($5 margaritas) and I enjoyed the apps: spinach queso, southwest egg rolls, sliders, and wings. The egg rolls and sauce were my fav. The wings were my least fav, the sauce was great (mango habenro) but I felt the wings were over done. When it was time to pay we had to use the handle device at the table. I didn't feel comfortable with that and Megan came over with a disinfectant wipe and wiped down the machine. It's the little things like that make a moment memorable. To be honest I feel that should be a part of the payment process; supply a disinfecting wipe when you inform the table they have to pay on the device. The staff here really won us over. The first time we went here, everything was good. And we vowed to come here more often. Well, we've been back twice and it was awful both times. I don't think there's any management on premises because the staff just doesn't care. I saw a dirty napkin on the floor near the entrance, obvious to everyone walking in and out. 4 different staff members walked around it rather than pick it up. Finally a 5th staff member grabbed it. When my bill came I was dumb founded to find a 3$ pitty compensation and the full charge for your nasty hairy pasta. Creative menu with lots of options for a chain..almost too many to sift through. Did takeaway service for dinner. Items were just as described by server on phone. She accommodated dietary restrictions (which doesn't always happen especially takeout). She was friendly and helpful on phone and upon pick up. A solid dinner and a step above most chains. We dined here a couple of years ago and frankly the meal was a disaster w poor service & incorrect orders. We returned now and were pleased to see the improvements in service and food. LOL - my mother could not believe her ears when I told her I ventured into a Chili's! It was fun. it was an adventure. It was like I was on a secret vacation somewhere. Eating in an American chain mall restaurant made me feel as if I were really part of Americana culture - what a delightful treat! I sat at the bar and the wait staff truly could not be nicer and more friendly and were ecstatic to hear it was my first time at a Chili's. They all get a 10 - they really do - super sweet enthusiastic people. What also gets very high marks are the exciting Happy Hour margaritas for $5 and under - how can you even beat those crazy prices? :-) My fresh lime margarita was an absolute delight. Food doesn't score as high and it was very difficult to conjure up meatless dishes. What I ordered seemed to be fresh at the time, but when I got home my stomach ached the rest of the night, so not sure what was in there. $20 for my adventure - like the price of the movies, which it was to me - watching how people partake in the dining mall of America, I'm grateful to have experienced it. :-) read more

Chilis is not a bad place. I remember going here a few years ago and there being free chips and dip at the table. Now you have to pay 4.49 which is kind of annoying. At least the chips are endless even though how much can you really have? Maybe more if you have a ton of people with you but really who is throwing a party at chilis. The food is good and it came out fast. I had a south western salad without the chicken because i am vegetarian. They don't really offer vegetarian options not even salads. You have to ask for them without meat on it yourself. If I could make a suggestion for them a vegan burrito bowl would be amazing! Our waitress Megan was very nice and friendly. My Dad had a burger which he said was great. I would go back maybe for the happy hour because it said they had 4 dollar margaritas. read more

This is a review on getting information over the phone for Chilis of Sheltons Happy Hour the first time I called the girl told me to hold on I was on hold for seven minutes. Nobody came back to the phone the second time I called I was on hold for four minutes finally a girl came to the phone and told me that a couple beers they had for four dollars one for five dollars I asked about the food that was offered for happy hour. She said that they had boneless wings I believe 1295 and regular wings 1195 she cannot give me any other information on the food that was being offered for happy hour, I just wanna know how do you not know the prices and the type of food and other drinks that you are offering for happy hour, how do you leave someone on hold for seven minutes and no one comes to the phone I honestly don't understand that and we like going to Chilis but I don't know anymore simple questions. Why can't you just have what you offer right next to your phone, so when someone calls you can tell them the happy hour menu a very simple solution, well anyways hope everyone has a great day read more

This restaurant is the best restaurant I go to so far. Service is good, food is good, staff is very friendly and nice, and a lot more. I go to Chili's in Shelton, Connecticut a lot of times. They also have good music too. I would sit in mostly the dining room at times for lunch or dinner. I will go there more often. read more

I love this Chili"s location for the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff compared to other nearby locations, but again, our meals came out about 10 mins after our apps. I HATE THAT!! That is my single-most biggest pet peeve of any restaurant. We couldn't even enjoy our apps and take even a 2 min break before being forced to dig into out dinners or risk them being cold. For starters the waitress was not familiar with any of the deals or how to work the ziosk. We were checked in very little and several things were forgot for the table. Our checks took 30 mins to spilt and there were still several issues. After my phone was taken to the kitchen for the coupon it turns out there was actualyl no need and everything could have been done ourselves. After we thought everything worked out the ziosk shut down and wouldn't allow us to pay after having used gift cards. The money from the gift cards was then not taken off the next check. Confession: I've never been to a Chili's. Growing up in So. Cal, it's always been avoided just because there was always somewhere else you could get baby back ribs or real Mexican food for cheaper. With the lack of Mexican options in this area, Chili's just had to do for the night. For a weekday the place was surprisingly packed and parking was somewhat tricky. Taking the 'Call Ahead' option is a must. Unless you like waiting around to be seated at Chili's for a good 30 min.+ Aside from the fajitas, I found the food to be okay. Just okay. The baby back ribs didn't exactly fall off the rib like it's marketed. I liked the carne asada that came with the fajitas more than the baby back ribs because the meat was tender and tasty -- just like it is at home. I suppose, "I want my car ne car ne car ne car ne asada, Chili's carne asada!" isn't as catchy as, "I want my baby back baby back baby back baby back..." Service was okay. Our server was all kinds of nice, but the experience felt rushed. The shrimp part of my meal was supposed to come with sauce, but it didn't. The booth behind us had their order screwed up. This particular Chili's location doesn't perform well when busy. Speaking of booths -- they're wayyyy too small. I'm of a healthy average build, yet I found it uncomfortable to be sharing the booth with another person because it felt cramped. If you're bigger than average, stay away from the booths. read more
