Absolutely Fabulous!! Since I have been ordering take-home for the last several weeks on their scheduled Tuesday and Friday menus, I have experience the best main dishes, salads and desserts ever! Just last night, I had Chicken Scallopini with Pesto Gnocchi with Grilled Zucchini. I ordered a side dessert of Chocolate Chip Banana Cake w/Berries. The whole dinner was outstanding!! Check the menus every week, they have choices. Everything tastes excellent. I get 2 days out of 1 main dish. The pick up location is easy and "total" social distance and payment by card is touchless. Well, they've outdone themselves again. We had their yummy eggs benedict brunch as well as their HoneyBaked ham dinner for Easter Sunday. Delivered on time by the friendliest delivery service (always). I cannot say enough about this caterer. The meals are absolutely top-notch-fresh and prepared amazingly!!! Tom catered our family Christmas dinner. The food was delicious, beautifully presented with very generous portions. Appetizers, (hot crab dip was awesome), main entrees and a fabulous desert tray. I was delighted to have found a caterer available who was able to provide hot food for Christmas Day. Served buffet style in chafing dishes allowed us to take our time over dinner. Whenever I have hired them or eaten their food at someone else's function, it has been very good. The problem is that they are not reliable about returning calls/emails, so you're sometimes not sure if they are available on your date, interested in your business, etc. This is a problem for people who really like to plan ahead and/or are juggling an event with multiple vendors. That said, I think their food is very good for the price and I have always been happy with their service on the day of the event. Bottom line: It takes patience and nerves of steel to work with them, but they are worth it. read more

Went to an 80th birthday party yesterday (Monday) that the Classic Catering covered the party. The first thing I noticed is everyone working had a smile. Said hello ... pleasant, friendly and seemed to enjoy what they were doing. Next was the wonderful smells ... delicious... the food was a buffet and the presentation was amazing .. nice set up but the best part? The taste. From grilled veggies, potatoes, rice with sauted veggies in it, salad, salmon, tri-tip and a mushroom sauce. The tri-tip was heaven along with all the fantastic sides. (Allergic to fish so that I did not try) During the party the gals kept glasses, napkins, and plates picked up and they were so good you really did not notice them doing that. They also had passed appetizers before dinner .. again, delicious. But again, their personalities were fantastic with the food off the chart. We used Classic Catering for the first time last December for our holiday event for 200 guests and, even though this review is rather late, I wanted to write it because our experience with Tom and the rest of his staff was excellent as well as the food. We had a delicious full sit-down dinner with passed hors d'oeuvres during our cocktail hour. We have hired them for our event again this December and look forward to working with them. The menu we worked on together last year was creative and he was so easy to work with. The best way to reach him, I found, is by text because, as mentioned by another reviewer, he is not great about returning calls! We started out thinking we would have 150 guests but as the number kept growing and we kept adjusting but his calm flexibility in dealing with all of the details made me feel confident that all would be fine. The food is delicious! The price is a bit on the expensive side but the quality of the food is very high. The staff is very nice and always on top of things. The roaming reception style is fun and innovative. They have so many options in the menu that you'll have a hard time picking only a few. I'm reviewing Classic Catering based on having sampled their services at a recent CalShakes performance. Considering the natural limitations of serving a limited menu at a remote site, they do a truly bang up job of providing hearty food well prepared and generously portioned. They offered a nice mix of vegetarian and meat items as well. I ordered a veggie burrito which was more California Hippy styled than Mexican. That said, it was yummy! Grilled veggies, black beans, rice and cheese: what could be better? I'll tell you what's better, though... Their chili bread bowl. That was what my dining companion chose. Considering how darn cold Orinda was on the night that we went, I would have much preferred the soothing warmth of a big chili serving. They had veggie chili as well. Oh well. Next time it's cold, I'll know what to do. Their brownies and hot cocoa were also quite good. read more

Classic catered our June 2011 wedding in Berkeley. The food was delicious, the staff was incredibly friendly and professional, and overall the reception meal went perfectly! During the planning process, they were friendly and respectful, offering us quotes that stayed within our stated budget that were creative and delicious. We had a cocktail that had to be pre-mixed by the requirements of our venue, and they were great about making it to the specs we provided. He was flexible, did a site visit and had some good ideas about where to set up and did a perfect job, most of all he was calm when I was stressed. I've grown very fond of the food served at the Cal Shakespeare Theater. Excellent service between the two gentlemen that helped serve me. I remember both their names starting with a J but I've forgotten the exact name, but they were very knowledgeable about what was being served and very, very kind. I enjoyed their delicious specials, especially the "Bangers and Mash" and "Fish Tacos." Tom is amazing!! We tried tried several different catering companies and left disappointed each time. Feeling frustrated we reached out to our friends and family for recommendations for a good catering company. Tom was recommended to us and we were thrilled when we left our tasting. The meat he uses is excellent and he allowed us to create the menu the way we envisioned it. He catered our wedding in October. All of our guests received food at the same time, Tom had our pink napkins folded into bows (exactly like the picture I showed him), and a great surprise was he cut the cucumbers into hearts for our salad.
