Only has two cookies, but they were really really good. So good I couldn't take a picture! We ate them up in seconds. Kids and I had the peanut butter cookie and hubby had the chocolate cookie. I would stop here again just for those cookies! read more

As is commonly mentioned, this has a great porch to kick back and put your dogs up after you've been biking around. Great people-watching. There is a bin for recycling, always an important step in environmental responsibility in my book. At least it's something. The prices did make me gulp, but I'm on the Vineyard for the first time and I get it. This is how the rich keep the riff-raff out. Businesses do have to make their money in season....take it or leave it, it's the reality on MV. I loved their kale salad ($19 a pound, eek!) even if it had raisins (no, no soft squishy things are welcome in my greens); their sea salt-chocolate cookies are to die for, and the pricey grocery selection is pretty fun, albeit fairly small. We bought a few things for our dinner so we could eat in our cottage and save having to drive around and pay even higher dinner prices. If you are on your way to gayhead light house this is a solid option to pack a picnic lunch. The salads and sandwiches are all very appealing. We had a Caesar, a kale and a miso protein as well as a Brie fig and arugula baguette. Everything was delicious. On a side note one companion noted that her protein salad seemed to have less chicken than the display one but I don't think this is the kind of place that measures everything out. It looked like a bunch of high school/college kids with summer jobs. That being said - on a very busy Saturday afternoon we were attended to by a very nice young man and had our lunch within 10 minutes. read more

Pizza ain't half bad, but it ain't good either. I put more money down on a brand new car then it cost for a meal here. The poor service was the main attraction here and don't get me started on the parking situation. It was more of a cluster F then anything I've ever seen. Would not recommend spending the long drive on such a disappointing place. read more

Eat here if you want, the pizza isn't half-bad, but unless you're paying with Monopoly money the $25.50 for a large pie seems somewhat criminal. I get that it's "the Vin-yahd," but last I checked tomato sauce is cheaper by the gallon than gas and most of the ingredients are locally harvested. The whole atmosphere (attitude) reeks of tourist exploitation and true islanders know to stay away for the summer months. If you'd like a real vineyard experience, that speaks to how things used to be, try the Orange Peel Bakery on a Wednesday night. Family friendly (and not just for $$$) they provide a wonderful pizza experience for islanders to celebrate and feel proud of. My advice - skip the Chilmark General Store and find something more quintessentially island. read more

Think porch, rocking chairs and pizzas! Watching the world go by with a fun cross section of regulars and vacationers. Huge slices, good cheese, foldable chewy thin crust, variety of toppings and other good salad choices. We also grab some groceries and snacks for the day. It feels like a relaxed respite. During a trip up island I stopped in for some lunch and snack for the beach. I got a an Italian sub and my wife got a Tuna fish sandwich. Both were prepared well and quick. Didn't look like they had much in the actual store, but the food was good. read more

The only reason I go to chilmark store is for their PIZZA. This is THE BEST PIZZA ON THE ISLAND! Go during lunch and have your taste buds tantalized by an amazing pizza. I crave this stuff during the winter. I have never shopped at this store for groceries, but looking at the prices they are about what I would expect for up island stuff. Cool little store on the island of Martha's Vineyard. Convenient when you're in this area, where there aren't many places to buy things. And the food is great if you need a quick lunch. It's very rural. I enjoyed coming here when I was a regular on the island. Bring a GPS then drive around and get lost. There are great and fantastic views everywhere, with plenty to see. Driving through the woods the deer are plentiful, and would come up very close to the truck if I were to stop and eyeball them. read more

It's awesome that there is a place so far out on the island that you can get just about anything you need. Patrons not used to Vineyard prices will probably go into sticker shock, but it's actually about average for the island. Especially considering the fact that, if you live out there, you're not don't have to drive all the way to vineyard haven/edgartown to get milk or eggs. They have AWESOME pizza, the best porch ever with tons of rocking chairs and are right next to Chilmark Chocolates. read more

The pizza here is off the chain. So good. Perfect crispy crust. Not a lot of pizza drippins. I had a few slices of the cheese and then went for the Island Grown of the day (onions, moz, and potatoes). It was a super hearty slice. They also have caffeine free diet coke which I love because I am a subhuman mutant. read more

I walked the 12 miles from Menemsha to Vineyard Haven to work off some calories. Of course, a few miles in all I could think about was having wifey swing by this market when she picked me up, so I could sample one of the great looking combo pizzas. I settled on the linguica and kale (also has onions and banana peppers). Put that on a brick oven pizza and it's a 5 star combo. There's no brick oven at the general store ... but their traditional style pie was very respectable indeed. read more

Great for a slice or whole pizza, call ahead for a whole pie. Plenty of other eats & treats. Yummy fresh baked baguettes, grab one for the beach and one for your freezer. The porch is a nice place to sit and eat if you can score seating (easier at dinner than bfast or lunch). It is pricey because it's the vineyard. But it's good food and great people watching. Hint - watch your toes, everyone stubs their feet on the rocking chairs as they scout for a place to sit. read more

The deep dish pizza I had was so great, unfortunately the poor service soured the experience. They shorted me in change until I pointed it out to the manager who had to speak with the employee with the attitude problem and I waited thirty minutes for a slice after she "forgot" to place my order. Hopefully, this was not an accurate representation of the store because their pizza was quite delicious and the pizza makers seemed to have a great work ethic in the back. read more

Earlier in the summer I wrote a review of the Chilmark Store's pizzas that was quite critical. The manager of the store responded that the problems I encountered were the result of new staff who had not yet learned the ropes of pizza making, and he asked me to try the pizza again, which I did 3 weeks ago. I think the pizzas were definitely better. In my previous visit, the toppings (such as sausages or veggies) were very meagre, the crust was rather limp in the center, and the amount of mozzarella was (at least to my taste) too small. In my later revisit, the toppings were definitely more plentiful and the crust was a bit crisper at the center - both important improvements. Since the crust was still not quite as crisp as I like, and we were having the pizza at home, I could do a bit more baking in our kitchen oven and the crisped-up crust was quite good and had a really nice buttery taste. Apart from needing a slightly crispier rust, my only remaining complaint was that I would prefer some more mozzarella. On the whole, I would rate the product good. The prices were higher than off-island, but that's expected on the Vineyard. read more

Best Breakfast on the Island - I am one of the many cyclists who stop off at the Chilmark General Store for a second breakfast during my ride and I have to recommend the breakfast burrito. Why? One, it has NO potatoes so it does not weight me down. Two, it is made from all fresh ingredients such as spinach, tomatoes, onions, and organic eggs. The coffee, muffins and sandwiches are good to. A real locals hang out with a delightful porch with rocking chairs in front. read more

We loved Chilmark! We enjoyed the breakfast sandwiches at Chilmark General Store. We got egg and cheese scrambled on a bagel and egg & bacon and cheese fried on an English muffin, both delicious. The iced coffee was great. It was quiet when we arrived, service was friendly and prompt. We enjoyed sitting on the porch to eat them. We went back the next day for a couple of slices, it was packed! Service still friendly and prompt and we were able to find a few open rockers on the porch. A couple of locals were enjoying coffee on the porch. If we lived here it would be our go to! The sandwiched looked good, we will try those on a return trip. So glad we found this gem. read more

Over priced ripoff. I've lived in Chilmark nearly 30 years and refuse to patronize this place. It was far better when Primo Lombardi owned it. The pizza became inedible under the present owner's regime. Only a fool would spend money here. Note that all the positive reviews are by tourists. Local folks know better. read more
