Love Chim Chiminey Sweep. They have been doing annual sweeps for the past three years. Three years ago we had our first in ages and they found significant damage to our chimney due to a chimney fire from over-burning the fire place. Which could have been a huge fire hazard and caused a home fire! They got us a quick inspection and report for our insurance and we got an entirely new chimney/fireplace/facade. Since then we are getting our sweep/inspection annually to avoid any issues. They are prompt, professional and clearly know their stuff! Professional and knowledgeable! This was our first time getting our chimney cleaned. Moved in 1.5 years ago and not sure if the previous owner maintained the chimney. I got a text message saying they were on their way with an ETA, and when Tyler arrived, he spent a few minutes asking me about the chimney, my concerns, and walked me through what he was going to do as part of the service. After he was done, walked me through again his findings and recommendations to keeping it maintained. He also corrected our knowledge and taught us how to properly use our fireplace (we thought it was gas but turns out it was wood burning!). We've lived in this house a year and a half now, and it was past time to have the chimney inspected and cleaned and adjusted. Chim Chiminey responded quickly to our request for service, scheduled a visit, showed up exactly when they said they would, and did the work that we asked them to do. They found a safety problem (broken damper) which they fixed for no additional charge. The final bill was exactly what they had quoted us. He got right to work on the dryer and as he finished his brother arrived to help with the heating vents in our house. I had 30 small birds come down my chimney into my fireplace a couple Fridays ago. My research (and photos) showed they were Chimney Swifts, and although SoCal isn't their usual territory, researchers tell me they do inhabit this area on a rare occasion. I managed to get them all out alive, but had to completely dismantle my firebox to save the last seven that had fallen behind a panel. I also found a big crack in the fireplace floor when I cleaned out all the ashes. I called Chim Chiminey because... Mary Poppins, obviously! Who doesn't love that??... and because they had excellent reviews on Yelp. :) I also like to support local businesses (especially in this pandemic when many small businesses are suffering), and they're right over in Vista. Booking an appointment was fast and easy, and Thom's wife was very friendly and patient on the phone. I received confirmation via text almost as soon as I hung up. I received another text the day of my appointment letting me know the crew was on their way. That was *very* helpful, since I was still in pajamas when I got the text! (Alas, the stories about working from home are true...) They were a half hour earlier than the time slot, but I didn't mind since I had some warning. Thom and his boys were so friendly and professional! The boys showed up first, very politely endured my bird story (they were raised well!), then started cleaning the chimney. Thom followed shortly after and went on the roof to see what happened up there. He said there was a baffle that was upside-down, so he corrected that, but that's not why the birds got in. When I asked about installing some mesh to prevent the birds from returning, he advised it would be okay to do that myself and told me the proper size screening to look for. He showed me photos on his phone of what everything looked like at the top of the chimney, and how he had corrected the baffle. The team also repaired the cracks on the floor and in the back of my fireplace, and reassembled the firebox, assuring me everything was still safe and in order. All was cleaned, repaired, and reassembled in about an hour, at a competitive price (less than I anticipated with the repair, in fact). I'm amazed at their efficiency as a team! They left no trace - everything remained free of soot or other debris. They also all wore face masks the entire time they were in my home, and were contentious about keeping things sanitary, due to the current circumstances. I will take every opportunity I can to recommend Thom's services to my friends. I really appreciate the extra effort the whole family puts into great customer service. I'm clearly impressed, and maybe I'll even be better about cleaning the fireplace annually, now that I know of a team I can trust. What are you waiting for? Give them a call! :) read more
