Overall about 3.5 Stars for Good. First visit last night. Good looking, clean restaurant. And, a full bar. Best item was their salsa. Good recipe. Very favorable and just a hint of heat. Most will like it. I ordered the Carne Asada steak with grilled onions, tomatoes. and jalapenos. It was good. Steak sliced and tender. But could have used a bit more flavor like chili powder or Tajin Clasico seasoning on the steak. Beans were good. Only disappointment was the rice. Was dried out. Fell off your fork trying to scoop it up. Didn't taste bad. Just no flavor. Difficult to find a Mexican restaurant with rice that's not bland tasting and seems like an after-thought. My boyfriend and I were really looking forward to trying a New Mexican restaurant this past weekend. We were especially excited for all of the a la carte options the menu offered. We ordered a chicken quesadilla, spinach quesadilla, beef enchilada, chicken enchilada, side of rice, side of beans, corn cake, 3 steak tacos, and a beef chalupa. The quesadillas were really good!!! We also enjoyed the corn cake, rice and beans, and the enchilada sauce. Everything else seemed to have a little bit of a funky taste to it.... Especially the steak tacos. The steak had a really good texture but tasted like it had been dipped in paint. Given the good and the bad, I'll probably be back at some point. Great restaurant! Service was fast and employees were super nice. Music and tv's were not loud so we can talk to each other without having to struggle. Bathroom was super clean but we got there as soon as they opened so not sure how they are after a whole day. Good was really good and big portions. Prices are very ready also. My partners favorite spot. I was already told before arriving what dish I had to try so I didn't even look at the menu lol. Camarón A La Diablo - Hot & Spicy Shrimp served on a bed of rice and lettuce. Although she was not pleased at all with the current size of the shrimp in comparison to what they are on her other frequent visits the meal was still divine. The flavor and spice was spot on. This has become our favorite Mexican restaurant. The food actually seems freshly made ,where as many pre cook and then keep in warmers. The service is always good, and margaritas are great! Went to Chimi's FreshMex this past Friday. It's better than your average Mexican restaurant. The place is really clean, really fresh ingredients, and some really good cerveza that is served at the correct temperature....cold! I had the Green Chili Chimi and honey got the Pollo Chipotle. Both were really good, served hot, and really tasty. I especially liked the fresh guacamole that was a part of the dish. I enhanced mine with their salsa that was a really good recipe; just the right amount of tomato chunkiness, pepper, and spice. This is a great place for a group of your friends who also may like margarita's or cold cerveza too. You're gonna like this place because its a nice change from the other places. I have never been to a Chimi's and now I know why. Just subpar Mexican Food. Their rice and beans had no flavor at all. Frankly I can make it better than they did. If it is not Chava's or Mi Ranchito then it is not worth a visit to me. The decor is just horrid. I have no idea why they had an opportunity to make a new and fresh look and went with the antiquated Mexican feel. I think they missed the mark here. They even have a monkey standing on bar with a cigarette in his mouth??? This is just so bizzare in a time when Non-Smoking is King. We've tried many other Mexican/Tex-Mex joints in this corner of St. Louis County and finally got around to trying Chimi's. We walked right in and were immediately seated. The restaurant looks festive and inviting and I liked how the booths were almost in their own cubbies for privacy in conversation. We have been going to Chimis for two years after moving here from Texas. We will never go back. After ordering we noticed the manager going into the kitchen area and start cursing out loudly in Spanish saying stuff that would be embarrassing to anyone. Both my wife and I understood what he was yelling. He was laughing and didn't have any concerns. If he had been yelling in English he would not have been tolerated. She got Shrimp Tacos ($13.95) -- Three shrimp tacos on corn tortillas with a side of rice. I got the Fajita Steak Chimi ($10.95) -- Deep fried flour tortilla, filled with fajita steak, sautéed onions, peppers and cheese. It was served with rice and beans. It didn't take long for our food to come out, and we both liked our food. My rice tasted like rice, which, to me, is cardboard. The beans were a smooth sauce kind of thing with some cheese. These beans were quite tasty. Then, we decided to split a fried ice cream. It was served in a shell, covered with chocolate sauce and some crunchy elements, and topped with a cherry. It looked beautiful, but I didn't like the shell, and the whole dish just really wasn't my cup of tea. I'll come again and try something different. Chimi's Fresh-Mex finally opened their new location at Four Seasons Center. It looks exactly like all of their other locations except that it is shiny and new. Same menu. I visited on a Wednesday night during their first week and they had quite a nice crowd in there. I ordered the Cheese Enchiladas dinner and subbed the rice & beans for corn cake. My dinner date ordered a combo plate with a taco and an enchilada. Everything was decent. It could have been a touch hotter. Love their chips and salsa. Reasonably priced and good strip mall Mexican food. Much better choice than the El Maguey to the east and Fiesta to the west. We'll be back for sure. read more

My review has to do specifically with the Chesterfield location at 60 Four Seasons Shopping Center. I can't seem to learn, but my wife likes "Mexican food". I'm so disgusted with Chimi's getting my carry out orders wrong, let alone the "God, I wish I didn't have to be here" look and attitude of some of the UP FRONT employees. And as usual, I tipped at least 10% (on a carry out order) because that's common courtesy. I ordered the Enchilada Verdes and chose beef. When I cut into them, all 3 were cheese. I know $11 isn't anything to get twisted about. It's when I call and get the "Come back up and we'll have them ready..." thing. Really? So I should drive there and back again? I happened to be speaking with the manager (he had my order number) and I asked if he would please just credit my Visa card. He actually said "I'll give you my name and next time you come, you don't pay for enchiladas". I said (to myself) "screw it" and said I'd come get a new order. I thought about the manager's trite brush-off, again I said "screw it" and chucked that foil container of cat food looking glop in the trash can. That is my last experience with Chimi's... I have mixed feelings for this place. I have been coming here for years with my wife for lunch and we have never had a bad meal or subpar service. Recently we went for dinner and it was as if we were in a different restaurant. The service was extremely slow, even though it was not that busy. It was so bad after waiting over 15 minutes for our waiter to bring us the check we had to go to the checkout desk to ask for it. Worse than the poor service was the food, which was awful. I ordered the combo fajitas - the chicken was flavorless and the steak was so tough it was impossible to chew. Also, the veggies were overcooked and near burnt. My wife had the trio enchiladas - whatever sauce they were covered in, ruined them. We have had the lunch enchiladas many times and they were always great. Not these. So at the end of the meal we discarded half of the sliced chicken and 90% of the sliced steak fajitas and 2 and a half enchiladas. On the plus side, the cheese dip is very good, but a bit runny, and very pricey at $6 for a tiny dish. After a great while we will be back but only order the lunch combination plates. read more

Chicken Chimichanga was pretty good, nice sides. Salsa had a bit of a 'tinny' taste; chips were thick style. Waiter was OK, not overly friendly, but OK. Cashier took our check and without making eye contact or saying anything to us (spoke Spanish to waiter while we waited) and took my payment. She didn't asked us how our meal was or say 'Thank You, come again'. That would have gone a long way to persuading us to make the drive out to Chesterfield again, but probably won't. read more
