2nd visit during lunch break and definitely one of my more enjoyable lunch experiences in the area. They are friendly and diligent with the time. I haven't had to rush thru my meal to return to work. So much food! Carne Asada Tacos so far my go-to.. 3 in the order and soooo much meat! Seasoned deliciously! Have to add cheese, guacamole and sour cream, but it's more than worth the upcharge for guacamole. Comes with a plate of refried beans. We were quickly greeted by Miguel with chips and salsa. We started with their fresh guacamole with jalapeños on the side. The ingredients were fresh. The avocado were in small pieces and not blended into a smooth guacamole. It came with two slices of lime. It needed about 3 more to give the guacamole that lime flavor. I ordered the chicken fajitas with all rice and no beans. Most of the chicken were small pieces versus regular slices of chicken. The chicken was seasoned nicely. Nice grilled peppers and onions. I'm thrilled I gave this place a chance--it's truly a hidden gem! We went for lunch, and the place wasn't crowded. It's quite spacious with friendly staff. The complimentary salsa and chips were perfect! The salsa had a delicious taste, slightly spicy and citrusy. Absolutely delightful! I had the nachos with ground beef and shredded chicken, and they were incredibly good! The portion was generous for the price, and the nachos were loaded with guacamole, sour cream, and delicious cheese. My kid had the taco salad and loved it. She was pleased because it wasn't dry like at most places. It was very fresh and flavorful. My husband had the lunch combo number 2. The crunchy taco was, according to him, the best he's ever had, and the chile relleno was also delicious. The highlight was the barbacoa street taco! Came here with a group of friends to celebrate the holidays and to exchange gifts with a White Elephant game. We came in very early at 11:30am and we had the place to ourselves. The service was very attentive. We ordered pitchers of margaritas for the table and they promptly arrived! The provided us with an extra table to put our gifts at. It felt as if we had a private party since we were seated towards the left of the bar area in a more private area. I ordered the chilaquiles verdes with two eggs on top. They were good and everyone else in my group ordered a mixed fajita lunch portion with steak, shrimp and chicken. They were all very happy with their meal and the portion size. El Salto is located adjacent to the Chesterfield Mall and recently moved in in the last few months. We went for dinner and enjoyed the experience. We were greeted right away and taken to a booth in their main room. Our server arrived shortly thereafter providing complimentary chips and salsa and water. Unfortunately they still do not have a liquor license as of now, so no margaritas or beers this go around. I was happy with the chips and salsa: crispy chips and flavorful salsa matters and they had both! We ordered the street tacos and quesabirria tacos and we were both very happy. The street tacos were filled with plenty of protein with cilantro & onions. The meat & fish was very flavorful. The quesabirria tacos were exactly what I was looking for and the sauce had an awesome kick of heat (as it should!). Second attempt to eat here, first attempt we found out they didn't have their liquor license yet, so we opted to wait. They now have their liquor license! We arrived and were greeted and seated quickly, chips and salsa were brought out and water all around. We weren't rushed and drink orders were taken. We ordered our food and actually had a to go order as well; not a problem! The food came out quickly and was wonderful! I had the steak fajita burrito (lunch size), my friend had the pollo con arroz and loved it! We didn't try the margaritas as we are both wine drinkers but the wine prices are GREAT! We were pleased to have a Mexican restaurant open in the local area that participates in AAdvantage Dining. We are regulars at El Maguey in the Valley, El Troquero and Mi Lupita, depending on where we are when it is lunch time. Some are not open on Sunday and we always have a Mexican lunch on that day, so now El Salto will join El Troquero as a Sunday option. We met family members for Sunday lunch recently and had a good lunch. This was my second visit. I eat relatively light these days and am usually ordering eggs or some kind of seafood tacos. I had good Huevos Mexicanos on my first visit and one of our party on this recent visit also enjoyed them. Ms T had a huge taco salad and said it was good. Next time she will probably stick to her usual tacos or a tostado. Our other companion had a large burrito and liked it. As for me, I had acceptably good Tacos al Pastor. The pork was tender and well seasoned. I will order these again if I am not ordering eggs or seafood tacos. I just need to remember to ask for no onions. They have a very good tomatillo salsa for these tacos. The order was more than I need and I brought two tacos home. We have a lot of acceptable family style Mexican restaurants in the area now. Newly opened, excellent menu variety, friendly and attentive service, generous portions, lots of warm chips and salsa. Food was very good, but believe they were still awaiting their liquor license, so no margaritas or cervezas tonight. Overall, I'd rate a 3.5+ for nice service, food quality with limited drink menu, and ambience. Entrees range $10-18pp. Started with the "chunky" fresh house-made Guacamole bowl; great with warm chips! This starter cost a bit more than the standard creamy version on the app menu. For dinner, tried the Carnitas and El Cazuelan. Carnitas dinner were cooked pork tips with grilled onions served with rice, beans, shredded lettuce, guacamole and jalapeños, plus 3 warm tortillas; flavors were good but pork more firm than tender. El Cazuelon was a grilled flattened chicken breast topped with a slice of Carne Asada, Chorizo sausage and cheese dip; plenty of tasty meat on this dish however the cheese dip seemed scarce, so it could've used more. Also served with rice, beans (refried or ask to sub black beans) and tortillas. Either meal was enough to share, or plenty to take home as leftovers. Just a callout they weren't serving full bar beverages tonight so hopefully soon; and I felt the ambience was like going to Chile's with a new menu as decor of the previous restaurant was still intact. We first tried El Salto a month or two ago. We shouldn't have waited. The food is SO SO SO good. We love the queso birria. These are tacos with delicious braised beef and melty cheese. The chile Colorado beef is also excellent. Very rich sauce with just the right amount of sauce. The tamales and enchiladas are also delicious. In fact, everything we've tried is good. Man I wanted to love this place! Salsa-no flavor or spice! My kids said it tasted like marinara. Chips were thin and so so. Frozen margarita was not good-like so much so I left more than half. Cheese dip-we knew it was not queso but for $5, there should have been more cheese dip. Server was blah. He seemed annoyed to be here. Took FOREVER to get our food. Chicken fajitas had barely any chicken-like maybe 1/4 chicken breast. The burrito was fine. The kids food was fine but no flavor. Unfortunately this would not be a recommend for me. We were in town for a concert at The Factory in Chesterfield. Looking for a mid-range Mexican meal, we found El Salto. First, it is on the edge of a construction site, so it looked a little shaky at first. But the inside is very pleasant, and the service was great! My chicken chimichanga was stuffed with chicken, no beans or other fillers and covered with cheese sauce. My partner had 3 a la carte enchiladas, which at 9.99 was a steal. It looks like you're basic Chili's restaurant with some Mexican decor. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce. Our entrees were okay. The lunch specials are really reasonably priced and portions are very generous- I've got at least another meal coming from the leftovers. I heard from a friend that they no longer have a liquor license, so probably wouldn't go in the evening until they have margaritas back on the menu, but for and early lunch it was just fine. My daughters split an entree and it came out as something they didn't order. They took that back and made what they ordered and it came out as the rest of us were finished. New Mexican restaurant in chesterfield. As you first pull up you will realize this is the old Chilis. Once inside you will really realize that, as the renovation looks like it basically included a fresh coat of paint. It is clean though so that's a plus. Very extensive menu, prices are a tad higher than usual as far as Mexican food goes but par for the course within the area. The restaurant does not yet have their liquor license so you will not be able to enjoy and adult beverages, at least not as of early January 2023. I would recommend although there is one business practice that really rubbed me the wrong way as well as the table next to us. They charge 3% on top of the bill due to credit card processing. This is a cost of doing business and really shouldn't be passed on to the customer especially when the customers are already responsible for a majority of the servers wages. When asked if I would also have been charged 3% for a debit card I was told yes. However, debit card transactions are capped at a half of one percentage point, so really just a way to squeeze more money from customers. read more

This place hit the spot! My cousin showed me this place. He literally has been here 10 times since they opened and orders the quesabirria every time- no regrets. Some of the cheese from my cheese enchiladas oozed out into the red sauce and made a tasty cheesy red sauce. The ground beef enchilada was pretty salty. The bean enchilada was pretty standard. The chips are fresh & the salsa is AAA+. Ordered the California Burrito, it is GIGANTIC! Loaded with chicken, beans, rice, lettuce and covered with the most awesome sauce. 5 star food!!!! I had been wanting to try El Salto. It's in the old Chili's on the Chesterfield Mall lot. I got there very early for dinner on a weekday. I asked for a table instead of a booth and got sat over the bar side all by myself. It was totally fine as I don't think there were any other tables when I got there anyway. The menu is huge and it took a while to read through it. I ordered the El Salto Dip (seasoned ground beef topped with cheese dip and pico de gallo) and 3 tamales. There was no description on the menu of the tamales and I asked the waiter what was in them and he said pork and I said great. The El Salto Dip came out in about 5 minutes or less. It was very good. I mean listen...queso is good. It's hard to mess up melted cheese. The ground beef made it slightly greasy but I ate quite a bit of it. Less than five minutes later the tamales came out. They had red sauce with ground beef on it. I wish I had known about the ground beef. Does ground beef go on top of a pork tamale? The masa was thick and pretty limp. When I stuck my fork in it it just kind of shredded. The pork inside the tamale turned out to be cubed pork. I've never seen this. Every tamale I have ever had, and honestly I've had a lot, has been shredded pork. The cubed pork was kind of tough and flavorless. The red sauce was a bit salty and the ground beef was not necessary and a little greasy. Also when food comes out that quickly I clearly know you're not cooking it to order. You're assembling it off a steam table. Also when you bring the entrée on top of the appetizer I know you don't understand the concept of pacing a meal. That makes me sad. I didn't finish even 1 of the tamales. I probably would not return. read more

Had an excellent dinner meal at El Salto. As a previous poster mentioned, the sauce for the chips was not spice. No problem. We asked our server for some "picante" sauce, which the readily provided. We mixed them together and had some great truly spicy hot sauce. Trick: add 1/2 packet of Splenda to mark it really good. The food was excellent, and fairly priced. Plus, the modified items to our taste. For example, my wife ordered steak fajitas. She doesn't like green peppers and asked for jalapeños and nopales instead. There was just a small up charge for the nopales. The portion of fajitas was very generous, with enough to take home for 2 meals. There was also a second platter with rice, beans, salad, sour cream and guacamole. Highly recommend the fajitas. I had the fajita taco salad in a crispy tortilla bowl. I removed most of the sour crème and left just enough for a slight taste as I mixed it, the guacamole, some hot sauce and all the underside te together it was a spectacular dish The service was excellent and attentive. We will definitely be back to El Salto. New had great fod at a reasonable price, they were more than willing to accommodate our requests, and the service was very good.
