My complaint is about an extra charge of $326.93 for a "Heroes Membership" that I had not asked for, agreed to, or was told I was being charged for and the mismanagement of this charge by the office staff and manager. The extra charge was in addition to their $340.00 chimney cleaning fee. When I called the office to inquire about the extra charge, I was told the person I needed to talk to was not there, and the chimney tech that serviced my chimney was on vacation. I tried to find contact information for the owner of the business, but was unable to find any, which was as concerning to me as being mistakenly charged over $300, and then having my bank account subsequently overdrawn due to their error. I tried to get to the bottom of how this could have had happened, but every answer I got from the office manager left me feeling more perplexed, bewildered and mistrusting in the company's financial practices. I was ultimately refunded my $326.93 but never offered any sort of written apology or incentive that would lead me to want to keep my business with Chimney Heroes. If they had simply given me a discount on next year's cleaning, and/or an offer to reimburse me for the overdrawn account, I would have felt compensated for the error and wanted to keep my business with them. But you don't just help yourself to a client's bank account after they've trusted you with it to take only what is owed. 3 years ago I spent over $10,000 having Chimney Heroes install a wood stove, and have been a loyal customer for years. During the increasingly frustrating call with the office manager, she told me to make a suggestion as to how they could make it right. I told her that this was why I wanted to talk directly with the owner, as the office manager seemed oblivious to the concept of offering compensation or incentive to keep my business and trust after such a significant error. She clearly wanted me ask for it instead of offering, which added insult to injury. She was condescending in tone and approach, and left me feeling enraged. I am retired and on a limited income and this whole experience has breached my faith and trust in Chimney Heroes, as well as my bank account, and my patience. After 20 minutes I was livid, and she was admonishing me for saying that "this much money is a big f***ing" deal, so I informed her that I was ending the call, and that they had my contact info if they want to make this right. I informed her that I was going to write a review that reflected this experience, and although she balked at this, she continued to be obstinate. A good office manager knows what to do in a situation like this. A good office manager doesn't "handle" a customer, they work with them. That is what I want the owner to know. read more

They respond promptly; but I paid them some $500 not 4 weeks ago to have my chimney cap put back on, and now it's off again. For that amount of money, it should have been secured in some fashion; not just put back on. Feels like I've been scammed. read more

What a great company. The follow up, the follow through and the personality of the technicians all stand out for thoroughness, caring and customer centricity. I received service quotations promptly, notification upon deposit receipt and quick turnaround for the install. Technicians were personable, professional and transparent about what would need longer term solutions. Inspection of my chimney and removal of the non-working gas fireplace revealed some structural issues that would have made full restoration to a working fireplace difficult, expensive and ultimately less efficient than a fireplace insert. I went with the Regency insert, which while smaller than I expected has turned out to be efficient and enjoyable. While an expensive choice, I'm thrilled to have a working fireplace again, and the ability to use it for a heat source as necessary. read more

So far I have only one customer that used these guys so I want to give a review, but I cannot speak to value. This company was selected by my customer with help from me (I'm an HVAC guy) because the chimney sweep she had used due to a flue problem didn't do anything to fix it. I insisted she get a second opinion and that's where these guys came in. The ended up removing a lot of debris from the flue and setting a liner into the flue. They also had some significant masonry work to do to make the chimney stable. After this we again have a sufficient draft to operate the boiler. The repairs were technically correct, but I think could've been better aesthetically, the piping installed isn't straight or neat as I would've done, and the fill placed in the basement could use some additional mortar. I have other customers that have scheduled work with these guys so I will add to the review as I hear back. They do take photos for the work to show the customers which is a bonus and should be mandatory. I like that! read more

Unfortunately I was hoping after reading all these reviews that we would have a great experience. We didn't. Called on different occasions was told. Any different thing but different people. Was not called back by the technician till I emailed and had an uncomfortable conversation with one of the woman that finally picked up the phone after a "meeting". The technician emailed after offering a camera inspection for free on Monday. I emailed back and still no response it's Wednesday!!! I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. read more

We contacted Chimney Heroes to service our vent-free gas fireplace. We were scheduled for 11/10 and put on the cancelation list, and moved up to yesterday. Jorge and Tyler came on-time as promised and immediately set up their safety equipment to begin the task at hand. They painstakingly removed each brick meticulously and safely removed all to the ground below. Even when it started raining a bit they did not complain or take cover, they just continued their job. After removing the chimney below the roof line, they repaired the surrounding bad wood and replaced it with new surface, then tar paper and replacement shingles. The only way you can tell anything was there previously is the color difference between the shingles. I would highly recommend this company and these gentlemen to do any work on your home. Very detailed and honest review of Chimney Heroes work they did at my home - Read til the end for why i left a 1 star review I initially gave them a 5 star review when one of their workers came to my home for an inspection and his opinion on what to do about our chimney Our regular home inspector suggested bringing in a level 2 inspection of the chimney as it would likely need work Jared was the name of the guy who came to our home and was a very pleasant fellow who seemed both genuine and passionate about his line of work which is rare and i gave him a good review for that Throughout the process of getting the work done i had the pleasure of speaking with one of their employees over the phone who treated me very well and was quite helpful tbh However, I was quoted by Chimney Heroes of a price of about $3900 for a new chimney liner initially They asked for a $1000 deposit of which i gave them Winter was around the corner so at their advisement we waited until Spring to have the work done I want everyone to work safely on a roof so i get that Spring rolls around I am told they want to take another look before they do the work - fair enough The new price we were quoted is $6500...a huge difference in price from $3900 Note: The new price includes an additional $250 they chose not to charge me I want to call it a discount - but paying an extra $2600 on top of the original price instead of $2850 isnt really a good deal I was told that the reason for the price increase was because of the economy and prices of parts going up My question was that if we had ordered the parts last year would the price be a lot better? The answer was "yes, definitely" Perhaps i am in the wrong here, but is it crazy to assume that if you pay someone a $1000 deposit to do work on your home as a measure of good faith that they should order the parts ANY TIME between winter and spring? Why should it be the customers fault that the company CHOSE not to order the parts at that time and the prices went up? - should then the price be passed upon to the customer? Our 2nd major issue was concerning a lift fee The price of a lift for the day was $869 that i agreed to ONLY because i was told that it was NECESSARY for the job and that scaffolding could NOT be used The service rep told me that we could roll the lift over the lawn no problem to get to the roof We live on a hill and that didnt make any sense I asked "are you sure we will be able to bring this across the lawn as we live on a hill?" His answer "Yes definitely we'll be able to do that" He was the expert so i took him at his word...they said it was necessary, cant use scaffold, and CAN roll across lawn Flash forward to chimney work day - 2 workers arrive and look at me baffled I greet them and address the likely elephant in the room and say "Hey just so you know your rep said you can roll the lift over the lawn right here" pointing to the same spot the rep told me The workers immediate response "we definitely CANT do that. Sometimes our rep overestimates what we can do." Eventually they tell me they need to leave the job to get scaffolding (that i was told they COULDNT use on this job) At this point im thinking - Why should i have to pay for the lift if we DIDNT NEED IT, COULDNT USE IT, and you COULD use scaffolding anyway. $869 for a lift is a steep price to pay if you dont have to I chose to resolve this conflict at the end of the job so they could complete their work in peace The actual work itself was good from what i saw so no problems there I asked the workers before they left about taking off the lift fee which was not used for the job Their response "the scaffold fee is about the same anyway" - something about that just didnt sound right At the very least they needed to add an addendum to the contract to include the changes I ended up calling their business the next day to explain the situation to which her reply was "we already processed your payment. There is nothing we can do." That is absolutely not the truth. And even if it was, there is plenty a business can do to take care of a customer after they messed up Everyone makes mistakes in life and maybe they really didnt know they didnt need the lift But if someone was to accidentally spill a paint bucket all over your car Who should have to clean it up?...they certainly wanted nothing to do with it They screwed up and left me to foot the bill for it The moral of the story and most unfortunately for them - because i actually really liked the people as they were friendly Is that taking care of your customers is how to do good business For what the extra few dollars in their pocket they took from me then - they lost many more thousands by losing me as a customer And they lost even more as i now have to tell my friends and family how poorly i was treated and taken advantage of When youre a local business reputation is everything Would not recommend Chimney Heroes in the future read more

When worker discovered problems his immediate recommendation was to replace fireplace insert. In his written report he stated that the insert could not be safely operated and needed multiple repairs. Some findings on the written report were not discussed with me and not documented with photos. Called someone else who was a dealer for the insert brand. He rated problems as less serious and recommended remediation that would cost less than one tenth the cost of replacement. A simple difference of opinion perhaps. My advice would be to ask a lot of questions if you use CH and, if you're still unsure, get a second opinion. On the up side, worker was on time, wore shoe covers and was courteous. read more

I had been having trouble getting my wood stove to draft and burn.. Thinking it was just that I had a small blockage I called Chimney Heros to clean my chimney to fix the problem. Thank goodness I called a company that knew what they were doing. To make a long story short, it was NOT just a little blockage. It was NOT a simple fix . It was as complicated as it could be and involved the chimney, the stove itself and overseas shipments which created multiple delays on my part. Everything was explained and documented with photos.I fully understood the situation and what had to be done. Everything was achieved with a level of professionalism which is hard to find these days. Whenever yet another problem or delay occured, and trust me there were many since parts were coming from France by way of London, it was never a problem for them. I have had Chimney Heroes (a/k/a Saratoga Chimney Sweep) work on my gas fireplace, as well as my wood burning fireplace. He and staff really know what they are doing and have state-of-the-art equipment. They can see what other sweeps cannot! As a Realtor, I have referred this company to many clients. I would not refer them if I didn't have 100% comfort level that they would do a great job and....my clients always confirm that they do! "Fire" is nothing to be played with and I get (and my clients get) a real sense of comfort knowing that when they examine and then repair a chimney, we are safe. I called Chimney Hero's to get my chimney serviced last year and to put a cap on my chimney in September of last year in 2019. Whatever they did created a situation where the gas from my heater has created carbon monoxide in my basement and it is from the service provided from Chimney Hero's. So I call them to make a appointment to fix this situation and they have the nerve to suggest that they could not come out unless I pay 140.00 for service fee. What happened to customer service and guarantee that is suppose to come with the work already done? I am very disappointed I feel that as a disable veteran and a previous customer that they should have came out to at least look over the situation free of charge. I feel ripped off and I'm going to report this situation to the BBB. My suggestion is don't go to the business that is only in it for the money. For all I know they created this situation so they could be call back at a enormous charge. All they need to do is unclog the line but they want to charge you for a liner. They prey on the weak and individual in emergency situations where has all the humanity gone. read more

Last fall my neighbor warned me that my chimney was loosing stones, big empty spaces where mortar had deteriorated. I tried calling a few repair services advertised in the paper, no response. Then I saw the Chimney Heroes truck in the neighborhood and approached Jared to ask if they repaired mortar. He was friendly, said yes but when he came to do the inspection, the 70+ year old chimney was found to have many more problems, not the least that the inside was deteriorating with insulation oozing through the bricks. Around then, a famous person's home burned due to a chimney fire. That could have happened to us. Chimney Heroes fixed the entire inside and out in one week. Jorge and his partner were on time, kept the house clean and did not mind the dogs being around. We have an entirely new chimney and are very very pleased with the crew and the quality of their work.
