I had an amazing experience with Adirondack Basement Systems. It started and ended with design specialist, Chris. He spent so much time with me going through detail after detail. So personable and honestly put my mind at ease. We texted for months from when I first met him, signed the contract, as the work was being completed and after. Phenomenal at his job and a great person. Zach and his truly wonderful and skilled crew - Ryan, Lars and Frank were fantastic! Everything was done ahead of schedule. If your looking for reviews, read the 1 star ones. I wish I had. I had work done in November. It was not completed on time. They all speak to the poor quality work that Adirondack Basement Services completes. The mess I am still cleaning up. They assured that they would make me whole, not leave me hanging. This went on all winter and in spring they "finished". They displaced a wall and then called the mortar instead of fixing the joints. Between that and the other mess, the four mason companies I've had out have estimated it will cost me double to fix what they have done to my home. The people were courteous, but left a mess and the one guy constantly complained about how he should've be in sales this year and he could not be more disgruntled. I've had to reach out to my insurance company to find out what to do as the way it was left is not structurally sound. So I humbly advise you to use ANY other company than this if you value your home. UPDATE. Per the response received for this review. It wasn't completed because they rarely were on site for more than 4 hours at a time. Which is noted in several other reviews. The fact that your company responds to this but does no out reach on job satisfaction after a job is complete and by complete I mean not completed is hilarious to say the least. The damage done to my home from moving the chimney an inch and a half out of place, breaking bricks, pushing out my wall and the list goes on is shameful that you even have the nerve to reply. Since the pump was here when I bought the house, I have no idea who installed it ! My basement is pretty dry. Pump removes the coming water from the ditch channel regularly, but somewhere tiny cracks appeared on the block walls. I call the specialist from this service and asked him to repeal old paint, to fix the cracks and to pain walls with the new water sealant paint. When he came for the estimate, instead of this, he said that this service is not doing this kind of work and tried to sell me the expensive internal sheetrock panels to cover existing block walls. Finally, I've repaired this basement myself (in my 65 y.o.). The walls were repaired by liquid concrete and hydraulic cement, sanded and painted 2 time with the Latex Base Drylok Masonry Waterproofer. I gave myself the warranty for this repair for the nearest 10 years. read more

I had a crack in my foundation wall. it let water in basement. they not only filled in the crack but they put a pipe in the floor at bottom of crack and directed any water intrusion to my pump in case water ever comes in that crack. that told me exactly what they would do and warranties their work. if I ever have another leak in my basement, they will be the only one I call. great job Adirondack read more

I contacted them for a repair on an empty basement, since the mobile home that stood on top was taken away. There were some cracks in the basement and a broken window. They came out 4 times and were not prepared at all. After 1 year and a half it was fixed at last and I paid. Then I received an additional bill 3 months later. I will never use them again. The technicians are all very friendly and that is not the problem. My complaint is that it took forever for a simple job and it was very expensive. read more

The most horrible experience ever! I did not even want o give them 1 star. They quoted me to fix my basement water problems. 4K to install a sump pump & WaterGuard system. I did have one wall in particular that was the biggest issue. They did not do the work they quoted & also did they fix the original wall they were called to fix in the first place. They have been back several times (5+) & I was assured again & again their system was working despite the obvious signs of recent water. The last time the Tech said "he is going to start charging you". I will not leave the house if rain is in the forecast & while at work have much anxiety about what I will find when I return home. Please take my advice & do your research. I am sure you will find similar regrets such as mine. after years of trying to have them fix the issues they created, our basement flooded recently (one issue is they buried a drain they put in years back when replacing a window well) and that leaks. While fixing that they broke our main sewer line and we had gallons of raw sewage to clean up after we called an emergency plumber. Adirondack Basement, Kevin himself, paid for that. They took months and four visits to fix another escape window well they installed (improperly). This eventually failed and now we have to refinish an entire 2.200 sqft finished basement apartment. Kevin and his team are not driven by quality or customer service. Here's a quote from his Facebook, "I don't work in the businesses I have. I work on them." This is why he's lost sight and the businesses have become subpar. Be very careful. read more

I completely regret going with this company. They were the most expensive out of all the quotes that I received, but I believed them that their warranty and reputation were superior. I was nervous because the only reviews were from their own website, where they could say anything. There were only 3 third party reviews and those averaged less than 3 stars. I decided to go with ABS based on the before and after photos of basements similar to mine. Boy, was I wrong. My basement looks nothing like any of their after photos. We paid about $16,000 and all that got us was two guys there for barely four days, from 10-2. They had a Jack hammer and went to town on the floors, leaving a jagged and ugly edge. Usually you would saw cut a straight line for aesthetics. They also don't do anything to contain the massive amount of concrete dust that pours over every surface. Since the dust is concrete, when wiped it becomes sludge and is extremely difficult to clean up after the fact. It took weeks to clean up the mess from their job. Again, this is not standard (like ABS will say), other masons have effective ways at mitigating the amount of dust, but ABS just doesn't bother. The "plans" they wrote up were different then the final product. ABS left a giant trench in the middle of my bathroom. It was actually a trip hazard, just a big dip running through the middle of the room. This was not what was outlined in the plans, but it was already done and all they could do is make it less of a dip. They'll swear up and down that it's a great job, but again, no pictures on their site show anything like how they left my house. I had my basement windows replaced through them as well and they're crooked. They even had a three week delay because they ordered the wrong size (they measured wrong the first time) and they had to remeasure and reorder. ABS has given 100 reasons why my ugly basement is actually a great result, but I'm sorry, if I had any idea that's what their finished product would look like I would have went with one of the other companies that quoted me around $9,000, literally 7k less. Do not fall for their hype, I couldn't be more disappointed in their product. read more

I had a poor experience trying to work with Adirondack Basement Systems. I had a water issue in my basement, and I called Adirondack Basement Systems to come provide a free estimate, which they did. The field technician evaluated the situation and wrote up an estimate and scope of services for me. I signed this contract and paid the down payment. Their own contract documents gave both parties--me and them--two weeks to review and change the contract terms. I then waited 6 weeks for the construction technicians to be deployed to complete the work that we had agreed to. When the technicians came to my home, they instantly said that they could not do the work as they as specified; they wanted to change the scope of work and charge me more money. I said that I could possibly agree to the change in scope of services, but that I would not agree to an increase in price; I told them that they needed to honor their own contract. The technician sat outside for an hour as management reviewed and considered, but in the end they chose not to agree to the contract. I very much felt as though the entire process was a bait-and-switch situation, and I was left feeling that if they would refuse to accept their own contract written by their own technicians, then they would probably not stand by their work quality or warranty agreements either. Adirondack Basement Installed an Egress window for us last week and did a good job on the window. The two workers were courteous and did the best they could. I had a major problem with ABS' communication and management. The problem was that I had called prior to the installation about a concern I had with them adding responsibilities to the homeowner, through a letter called Quick Tips, after the Contract had been signed. I spoke to the production manager about avoiding rutting in the lawn. ABS said all lawn damage was my responsibility. I asked that they bring some plywood to lay down to protect the lawn. The manager said they would see what they could do. They showed up the morning of with no plywood at all and asked me to take make a decision on the spot whether to do the job or not. They said the owner thought it was a safety concern for the workers. I disagreed, but it is difficult to argue safety. They were supposedly the professionals. I needed the window in to stay on schedule. I reluctantly said go ahead, but be careful. This is what happened, w/ ruts a half foot deep. 15' x 40' of lawn was trashed. Worst experience with a business I've ever had. Window installation debris clogged our laundry waste sink which required a plumber to come out and fix. One of the windows was installed BELOW GRADE (which would have added water to our basement!). The replacement window they came out to install was broken. This is the worst experience we have ever had dealing with a company. - They advertise 'FREE ESTIMATES' but then try to charge you - They make promises and do not deliver - The employees a rude and it obviously come from the top down because after waiting 2 weeks for an estimate we was promised, multiple phone calls, and multiple text messages we reached out to the owner, Kevin Koval and his Vise President Jen Fox, neither of which returned our call. Instead they 'forwarded' our voice mail to the same 2 people we called to talk to them about to get a resolution. While trying to purchase a home a basement water problem was discovered during the home inspection. We and the homeowner agreed to use Adirondack Basement for the estimate and repair (which was to be included in the purchase price of the home). The homeowner contacted and coordinated the estimate. When we questioned Adirondack on the proposed solution, which obviously did not address the whole water problem to the house we were told by Adirondack that they had verbally quoted them a 'whole house solution' which was a little under $10,000 but it was rejected by the homeowner and the written quote (for much less) was provided. The sales person said they would be more than happy to supply that quote. We waited over a week and then they came back and wanted to charge us $200 for 2 new quotes (no longer free... but not advertised anywhere), when we said we'd pay we waited another week... countless calls & text messages to the person with no response.. finally we reached out to their manager.. all that achieved was being tossed back and forth... We reached out to the owner and the VP but again... no response... We lost the contract on the home and we lost our deposit money (which was significant). Think twice before using this company. I had a bid to remove my basement concrete, remove 4" of dirt and re-pour a high psi concrete floor. We were also getting a sump pump, perimeter drainage, and an egress window. The job was going to take 2 weeks and cost just over $40k. It's been almost 1.5 months since the job began and my basement is a pit of mud. Adirondack Basement Systems has a major issue with management and they have been terrible to work with. The two guys that have done most of the concrete work have been very nice and courteous and are doing the best they can. Management on the other-hand have been ridiculous. I am really hoping that ABS finishes this job soon, but I'm not sure that is going to happen. Currently, besides the pit of mud in my basement, I have a 4' x 4' hole cut into my back patio, a sump hose lying in my front lawn, and no way to access my breaker box which is in the basement (yes, I have a breaker that popped and no way to turn it back on). Besides all of this, I also had sewage backing up into my basement. This was eventually fixed by a plumber, but was certainly disgusting. Adirondack Basement Systems has made no attempts to get this job finished. They say they'll call with a plan, and then I hear nothing but crickets. When we had heavy rains again today, I relived the bad experience this company has put me through. So once again, I told a salon full of people NOT to use this company and why. I just went online and saw the response to my review that the owner had put online. I couldn't believe the lies! First of all, the owner's girlfriend answers the phone there. When I finally was able to get through to them over the phone, calling them in a panic, she was laughing and saying how she had just seen us on the news. I had to tell her to stop laughing and deal with their bad work. I couldn't believe that the owner wrote on here that he tried to stay in touch with me and I hadn't gotten back to him. All I did was try to reach him. They did NOTHING to rectify the equipment failure and loss of equipment. The damages we had added up to $100,000.00!! This money was my responsibility since I'm not in a flood zone! So much for my 21 years in business. There washed away my retirement and savings. As for a car flipping over?! Really?! Didn't happen. Lies. Oh.... And the LIFETIME GUARANTEE?! The one that was supposed to transfer to the next owner of the building?! They didn't even honor it for me, let alone anyone else. I'm absolutely disgusted with this company. This guy Kevin Kovall is a thief in my opinion. I get angry every time I see his commercials. I've stopped at houses that have had their vehicles in their driveway. When they are getting estimates from ABS, I stop over afterwards and warn them. We were satisfied with the initial installation and work done by ABS in the summer of 2012, but when we needed them in an emergency, they were not available. They have NO emergency contact nor an answering service, or even an email available on the evenings or weekends. We paid $2,000 for a system which had a main sump pump and a back up battery operated pump, so that if one failed, the other would take care of the water. On a Friday night, the alarm sounded, and we were not able to reach anyone at the company. Fortunately, we had a submersible pump available, and were able to put that in the sump pit to keep the water from flooding the basement. We ran the pump all weekend, until Monday morning, when we did get a call back from the company. A technician was sent over that morning, and he found that both pumps had burned out. However, he said that the pump had been manufactured in 2011, so it was no longer covered by the manufacturers 3 year warranty!! They installed a year old pump, but led us to believe it would be warranted for three years from installation. The battery operated pump had also failed, but the tech never said anything about that pump warranty; only that we had to pay another $300. He was helpful in one regard in that he didn't make us buy another "whole back up system", i.e. a new 12 volt battery, just the back up pump. We were not too happy to pay $700 for two new pumps, in less than 3 years after installation, especially since, had we known, my husband could have just bought new pumps for half the price. Not too happy about our dealings with them! New note 4/21/15: the owner, Kevin Koval, heard about our situation and called to apologize about the date/warranty issue, and is going to refund our money for the main pump. That is a welcome surprise! While we aren't happy that the pumps only lasted less than 3 years I can't complain too much about the way we are being treated! read more

As the salesman told us, "we have no competitors". And their pricing is absolutely ridiculous. We were told by the salesman "we don't even move the truck for less than $1,200.00", that is absolute price gouging..! We had previous estimates from masonry contractors, and the cost to completely remove and replace our front concrete walkway was $1,100.00 - $1,200.00 (Again, to completely remove and replace the walkway..!). I truly hope that this company does good work for the people who need them. But they need to learn the market, and what it costs to have an actual professional masonry contractor do the work - their pricing to RAISE EXITING CONCRETE should be much less cost than completely removing and replacing all of the concrete. We called them for a crack in the poured concrete foundation basement wall that was leaking water during rain storms. They sent a representative to give us an estimate. He said this is a "garden variety" crack and normal to see in poured foundation walls with age. The estimate was for $700 to fix it. The two workers showed up to perform the work and said it was NOT A GARDEN VARIETY CRACK. They then called the owner Kevin who came out and told us the foundation was shifting. He said he could repair it by exposing the foundation and lifting the sinking part with hydraulic jacks. That estimate was $4000. We said OK then after part of the foundation was exposed he said he was unable to perform the lifting operation but could stabilize the foundation where it was for $3000. We said OK but that we needed the leaking through the crack to be stopped while it was accessible. Kevin (the owner) said he would do that but in the end failed completely. The wall leaked worse than before they came and the foundation continued to shift. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR FOUNDATION REPAIR! read more

An absolute propaganda hyped up operation! Took 4 weeks to come look at job after initial call, in the interim countless e-mails, snail mailings & calls tooting their own horn. The estimator Bill shows up, nice pleasant guy, looked things over & said he had to talk to his boss to see if they would be able to do the work. Says he'd "be in touch", never heard back, two weeks later e-mailed them to follow up, couple days later get a call from Bill giving me reasons why they can not do the job. Evidently the don't do any framing type work, ok, so he says he can provide me with the pillars to drive into ground & I'd take it from there. OK, give me a price Bill so we can budget for it, sadly to say have yet to hear from Bill, going on three weeks now. I will say this, seems to me they have been involved in some prior litigation 'cause they carefully watch their words when speaking directly to you. Kinda like political correctness without any validity. At any rate, my experience was dismal to say the least, although some may like the games people play. I prefer doing business with those with some cohunes, know how to adapt to & overcome obstacles to get the job done.
