Hate to be the one to rain on this parade, but I'm not sure what all the rave reviews are about. 1) The chinese food is okay. I can get better, fresher buffet closer to home, though. The food was all dried, as if it had sat out for a while, even though there was a fairly good turnover. This leads me to believe that it is just sitting around in the kitchen. Over all it was under seasoned and forgettable. 2) The sushi. I will admit that I lived in Boston for years, and have had exquisite sushi. I didn't go to a Chinese restaurant looking for top shelf, but based on these reviews, I did expect decent. All the rolls included mayonaise or cream cheese (and no small amount of it, either), and were at least 50% rice... double what it should be. The raw sushi choices (shrimp and imitation crab were also available...) were red snapper, tuna, and salmon. The salmon and snapper were good, but very bland. The tuna had a very fishy smell to it (which, if it were fresh, it shouldn't), and was a bit mealy. The rice was all dried out, but I ate it because of the huge sign requesting you not waste rice, and you can order sashimi for an additional cost. Seeing that I didn't care to eat that fish as sashimi anyway (it would have been even worse, no doubt), I just ate the rice and called it a day. 3) I will give them this: the sake was good, and they put it in a hot water bath - it stayed warm right to the end of supper. That, and it was $4 for a sake pitcher. I don't think we will be going back. Ever. But if you are looking for a cheap meal and don't really care about the quality of sushi, then go here. read more

All you can eat for only $10 is an okay price for starving students craving to have a decent meal after a long day at campus. Enjoyed the sushi, dim sum, chicken, crab and they also made a small on the spot birthday cake to surprise my friend on her birthday dinner we had there! Monday night treat...well, where to start? Maybe the apparently homeless fellow near the front door soliciting patrons as they leave the place. Or the mushroom chicken station with plenty of mushrooms but ZERO chicken. Other items just plain cold. Is 7:40 an appropriate time to vacuum the place? Apparently so at the China Buffet. I thought I may have just tried the wrong selections...it happens, right? So in the interest of fair play, I made a 2nd pass. Teriyaki chicken was overcooked and tasteless. Chicken and broccoli- ice cold. I thought the chicken drumsticks were interesting: all were wings and an interesting almost orange color...and ice cold. Want the sushi? You'll have to get the attention of the staff member who was watching his smart phone. For the record, it's not like the place was empty. I counted about 25 other poor saps in the place. Is the place clean? It should be as an employee just cleaned the divider in my booth with me still seated. That must be "last call for cold fake Chinese food" signal. We went for lunch around noon assuming that the food would be fresh and delicious because it's lunch time! However, we were sadly mistaken. The pork egg roll had undercooked looking pork in it. The chicken in every single dish we tried was over cooked and hard. The hibachi grill didn't cook my food long enough so the vegetables didn't even taste sautéed, they were hard and undercooked. This place was pretty good. It definitely gives you the version of Chinese food that you expect when you go out to eat Chinese food. Take out that is. There is a nice selection of Seafood crabs shrimp crawfish mussels. I did enjoy the egg rolls and lo mein. If you're looking for a good Chinese buffet this should be your pick. The whole time we were there the wait staff was either clearing plates away or cleaning the tables period literally cleaning with some substance that smell like it could have been bleached. The atmosphere is nicer then many china buffet's that I have been to but the staff are rude on their best day and the food is well a lot like what you expect from a all you can eat chinese buffet. Stay far away from the sushi! No sure why I would even try the sushi considering a single serving of sushi would normally cost you more then you pay for your entire all you can eat meal here. This is the most complete Chinese Buffet in Durham. The offerings are extensive and there is even a Mongolian barbecue in the back. I really like their hot and sour soup. They are also one of the few Chinese restaurants that have real Chinese Mustard available, which I love. The traditional buffet offerings are well prepared and hot. I came here for the first time today, and I have to say I liked it. The location is kind of hard to find, and it kind of looks like 1989 inside. But I tried quite a bit of the buffet line food, and I found myself going "mmm..." more than once. The fried rice is really good, not at all dried out like most buffets. The scallion chicken is good, so is the garlic chicken. They have lots of dumplings available in steamer baskets, and all I tried were tasty. I didn't even get to the noodle soup bar, which is a cool idea, and I will fix that next time. My server also did a good job of keeping my tea full and clearing plates. With them reopening during COVID, I went a couple weeks ago and was very impressed with their accommodations. I have visited this place about handful of times, but this time the foods weren't so fresh and some of the food were extremely salty (fried squid). There was also a very loud women working in the kitchen who shouted a lot. She was bringing food to add the the buffet tray and was very rude and yelled at me for getting the food in front of her. They also have no senior discount unlike many other restaurants and charge gratuity in advance for a group larger than 7. They serve 6 different soups, and the server always dips his finger in the soup. I would not recommend the place. read more

Hands down the best deal for Chinese buffet I've ever been to. Two person dinner costs only $23, a great deal considering how much seafood there is, including deep fried crab (only available at dinner). Their sushi gives generous amounts of tuna, and they have vegetarian options. My husband adores their duck soup. Haven't tried the hibachi section yet. I will NOT be returning. The water was the best thing that I had. The few rolls that were in the basket were burned and remained during my entire visit. FOOD: Excellent Americanized Chinese food. They have an excellent selection and you'll find everything you crave whether it's lo-mein, sesame chicken, fried dumplings, etc. They even have fried crabs on a weekday night. What really makes them stand apart from the other buffets in the Triangle area are their noodle soups, sushi bars, and hibachi grill. Just remember that the food isn't authentic but if you're coming to a place called "Chinese Buffet," I'm sure that's not what you're looking for anyways. SERVICE: Very good. Waiters are fast with drink refills and collecting dirty dishes but don't expect conversations in English. If you know Chinese, then they are a bit more chatty. AMBIANCE: Excellent. Spacious and clean with nice decorations. Plenty of parking outside. Great place for large groups. VALUE: Good but it's a tad bit more expensive than the other Chinese buffets. I was actually pleasantly surprised after my first trip to China Buffet. It definitely is not gourmet cuisine but there is definitely something for everyone. The buffet is very extensive and includes sushi, desserts, and stir fries. There is basically every type of Chinese food you could hope for. Obviously, the food is going to be a little greasy but you can find healthy options as long as you can avoid the fried temptations! I really enjoyed the dumplings and the chicken with broccoli. The soups definitely looked like they needed some help. Overall this place is awesome if you are craving some very budget Chinese food. Bring your appetite!! read more

It's a Chinese buffet, and if you are expecting the typical buffet, this place will suit you just fine. The reason I'm giving it four stars is because I'm measuring it compared to other Chinese buffets, not against other places I eat at. All the buffet food is pretty much your standard American Chinese fare, and you should expect it to either be fried or have lots of sauce. The Hibachi bar is great if you're looking to have something a bit more healthy though! The service is pretty good and the people at the register are especially friendly. The biggest downside is the location, and the fact that their bathrooms seem a little unclean. Maybe it's just the smell that makes me think that, but still. This is the WORST chinese I have eaten in my entire life. The chicken was PINK and shrimp were out, most of the warm food was freezing cold and my boyfriend threw up after eating the sushi. After having 4 or 5 bites of different things, giving them the benefit of the doubt, I asked a manager for a refund. She insisted on a 20% discount. She would not lower the price. Management was rude, other employees polite. I will NEVER come back to this establishment again, hoping my boyfriend isn't having symptoms of food poisoning. This place is awesome. They really need to work on their crab Rangoon. Most people I know love those like hot balls of cream cheese and this place has the worst ones I have ever had. I think if you are gonna have a CB bad crab Rangoon is a cardinal sin this is the only reason it gets 4 stars. The sushi and soup bars are both pretty awesome. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Certainly this isn't the best Chinese buffet, but it isn't the very worst. Food is acceptably warm and although some of the fried protein is a bit dry and over browned there are a variety of options and the sushi bar has interesting choices. If you enjoy seafood there are a bunch of options here for you. I didn't try the hibachi all the way in the back but I was intrigued.
