The famous orange chicken was said to have been developed by Chef Andy Kao at a Panda Express in Hawaii in 1987. At first Panda Express was only found at mall food courts but in the 80's and 90's they started franchising out to stand alone restaurants. Panda express is now available internationally and it is the largest chain of fast food restaurants serving American Chinese cuisine in the Unites States. Looking to grab a quick meal while passing through Palm Coast we ended up this Panda Express for dinner. My pet peeve about this chain is that they never have all of the food ready at the same time. You are usually stuck waiting for something to finish cooking. I did notice that this restaurant looked very clean and bright and I do like that they have low carb and vegetarian options in addition to a their many meat dishes. Even picky eaters can find something to eat. I usually order the lo mein for my side with the orange chicken and honey walnut shrimp ($1.50 upcharge). It was nice that we didn't have to wait a long time for our food and the staff seemed like they were on top of things. The portions were very generous. As far as fast food goes at least you can get something relatively healthy here.
