I'm giving it one stars due to my waiter never introducing himself to me, taking my full plate of food away that I was expecting to get back to after the restroom (I was alone), and he was standing by as I was signing my credit card slip. Like he could give me some space, it's very uncomfortable for a waiter to just stand there next to the customer as they are paying. Okay the truth is I'm not a big buffet person but with my family we visited China Cafe recently; this was my first time back since I moved away and after Covid. Jackie the manager disregarded our complaint. We as sat there an hour trying to find something decent to eat. My children didn't even like the fries, pizza, fried shrimp or any of orange or general joes chicken. Crawfish looked like they had been cooked over and over. The buffet is amazing. However, we returned with our family of 6 which includes four children. My husband is 6'5 and I'm 6'1. Needless to say our children ARE TALL. THEY CHARGED MY 9 year old daughter and 10 year old son for ADULTS! This is an outrageous policy and would give heed to anyone who is over 5'2 to not patronize this establishment until they get rid of this absurd policy. read more

This place is a joke. I came here with my three children. My 10 year old, 4 year old and 2 year old. They wanted to charge me adult price for my ten year old because apparently she's "tall" so child prices are based on your child's height instead of actual age...I can't help that my daughter happens to be tall like her parents. She is indeed 10 and was going to have to pay adult prices while eating child portions. This is a very big buffet with lots of options. The food was hot (not wilty, like some buffets) and you are only limited by yourself. Whatever you are in mood for, this place has it. So many dishes, and each dish we tried was good. The server was friendly and brought our drinks in a timely manner. This is the worst Chinese buffet. I have been at in a very long time. The customer service is trash. We came in with four children, and one two of them are twins, and they one is taller than the other one and they base the children's price off of height and charged him as an adult When we said that no one told us that they based the children off of height and not actual age so why do you ask then the food was horrible everything we ate was cold so we kept trying to go back and get something that was hot that was fresh so they would pick up plates and throw them away when we told them about the food The lady stated that they looked at the cameras and said that we had been there for an hour and said there was nothing that they could do as far as pricewise. First off, the Service was wonderful! The waitress was pleasant and had us cracking up laughing everytime she came to refill our beverages .. water & beers...Upon entrance we were greeted and seated.. the atmosphere was light because it after lunch but before the dinner crowd. When we first arrived, I was told that my niece that was with me was not ten and based on her height she had to pay the adult price. Secondly now although this was not her fault she could have handled the situation better, I am sitting by the door so ppl tend to pass me up when entering and leaving. A man came in and sneezed without covering his mouth close to my food as I'm eating, then proceeds to the buffet where he wipes his nose then grabs a plate and utensils to get food. At this point my appetite is gone. I make the manager on duty aware and she gets an attitude so do I. She tells me there is nothing she can do and she needs to watch the cameras, I say ok, she comes back and tell me she can only do 10% off on my meal. Fine, the receipt looks off so i question her about it she pops her neck. I ask for the general manager she says there is none on duty but her, so I ask for her name she tells me she doesn't have to give it to me and stand there I had to tell the lady to get away from me. I read the reviews, and decided to give it a chance because of the recent 4-5 star opinions. Pros - Both staff and management was friendly, and there's a wide selection of food, sushi and dessert. Cons - Honestly, the food is pretty awful... all of it, which is simply surprising because I've never been to an Asian restaurant and disliked everything. It's not the cheapest during lunch on a weekend, either. Also, the environment feels very dirty... I'm unsure what those recent 4-5 star reviewers experienced, but those 1-star reviewers were right. I'm giving two stars because the place is clean compared to other buffets with wild children. 3 adults plus sodas each costed us $51.90 There were good options however: Crawfish was cold. How can one say anything about a restaurant that seams to have it all when it comes to oriental cuisine. To look in from the outside is a treat in itself. So much food and such a variety of tastes. Great appetizers to start out with. It generally takes at least two plates for the first go round, then you go back for seconds, things you couldn't put on your plate the first time, then comes the third time, which are generally ones favorites, and then maybe desert. They have a great variety of seafood from mussels to oysters to cold boiled shrimp to crawfish and then some. Many types of Sushi. And don't forget their soups and salads. don't forget to go back to the Hibachi Grill, just go pick out what you want to eat, and the chef will cook it for you. While you are waiting, go fill up those plates with all the wonderful dishes to go along with your main course. If you haven't been here before, you are really in for a treat. So, I have been here 6 times. Weekends and weekdays with great food and great customer service during both. I am sure bad days happen but not during any of my visits. Now on to the food, there are plenty of dishes to please just about anyone. There plenty of sweets to tempt the palette. From flam & cakes to several different flavors of real ice cream. Salads of all sorts, raw oysters, cold boiled shrimp. Way to many to list them all but a few I really like are the Coconut shrimp, Pepper Steak, Mongolian Beef, Fried Calamari , and the fried ribs. The sushi bar has plenty to offer and is pretty tasty. I don't like buffet soups of any kind so those are up to you to review. But as far as Chinese buffets go this one has been great. If you find yourself craving Chinese buffet, this is the way to go. We went around 7:30 on a Friday night and there was a short wait to be seated.The place was nice and clean and the buffet is expansive. The food was constantly being refreshed so nothing tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day. Their buffet includes all the typical foods that come to mind when you think Chinese buffet plus hibachi and sushi!! I did not have the hibachi but it looked like a good option. The sushi was surprisingly decent! I mean its not like a gourmet restaurant but its all you can eat for $11 so I'd say that's a win. But guys, let me tell you about the dessert. Now they have the standard soft serve machine that we are all used to seeing, but next to that is a freezer with 8 tubs of ice cream. and i mean legit ice cream you would get at an ice cream shop. There was a variety of flavors and my regret is that I didn't plan ahead. At this point in my all you can eat experience I had passed the realm of glad my waistband is elastic (yes i thought ahead and planned that out. this ain't my first buffet rodeo.) and was already solidly in the extreme self loathing and questioning why I always do this to myself phase (and replaying the scene of the gluttonous guy in the movie Seven in my head). So sadly I only got to try half of the ice cream and not all of them. For a Chinese buffet, China Star is really good. This is probably the best Chinese buffet I've been too in the US, but that's not saying much. Cause most aren't great. A lot of the food is westernized and has Hispanic renditions of it so don't expect authentic Asian anything. It has a fairly decent selection. Main dish-wise. Majority of their sushi has cream cheese in it, which is westernized and it's not fresh at all. Be careful when you go to the build your own hibachi. They load on the sauces and it makes it very salty almost inedible. Their fruits aren't fresh and their desserts are also lacking. When I went all their ice cream tubs were practically empty and in the wrong labeled spot. Overall, it's edible. It's decent. Fairly big selection. Has potential. read more

I know, I know, I should've known better. I just wanted Chinese food and not drive too far. A buffet sounded good for some variety, but I was so wrong. This place went totally down hill from the time they opened. This place is absolutely filthy. Trash everywhere. Bathroom was disgusting. The fresh veggies at the hibachi was browning. The food in the buffet was all mixed together from messy buffet goers. The food all tasted bland and soy sauce and sriracha couldn't even save it. After a good five or six months of the sign being up, the ONLY Chinese buffet in Pearland opened. Solid if what you're craving is Chinese buffet food. Desserts could be much better but this hits the spot in my stomach that just craves Chinese food. Definitely one of those after church spots or big family get togethers. But credit to China Star, they made the entire city of Pearland wait with a lit sign and they finally opened and made it much nicer than Healthy Chinese Buffet. read more

My boyfriend family and I went here to celebrate my boyfriend's little brother's birthday. This will be a significant piece of information later on in the review. This is the worst buffet I've have ever been to with family. The only thing positive thing about this place was since our table was closer to the kitchen we didn't have to wait for a long time for the waiter to pick up our plates. Most of the food was either way too salty or too sweet. For example, Lo mien noodle tasted smoky and salty, egg drop soup tasted like another dessert, crispy crabs tasted soft and spoil. Sushi was typical for a buffet, but there wasn't enough selection because most of the sushi were gone and they took forever to make. I returned back TWICE, but they still have just one selection. The only highlight was their mayonnaise shrimps, but this is not enough for us to return. So let's go back to my boyfriend's little brother birthday. Earlier on before we sat down, an eager hostess was excited to know that it's my boyfriend's little brother birthday. She insisted to let our waiter know. Maybe perhaps prepare for him something special? We didn't expect anything actually, but it would've been nice for a kid that just turn 11. We waited and waited, but nothing happen. But what did happen was our waiter who keep on asking my boyfriend for his little brother ID. We told him several times, he is 11, he don't have an ID. Even if he did, with a student ID his birthday is not going to be on it. The waiter rudely replied, " No ID, no discount." First of all, we did not expect to get a discount or care for it. Ah, I wanted to like this place. I'm been stalking since the sign went up. The food has been pretty good steaming fresh, with high turnover likely due to the overpour of Pearland clientele. But... there is. A BUT. I saw something that really turned off, and may make me think twice before coming back. Although the service was good, I watched a good prepared do the grosses thing ever, in plain sight, right before my eyes. As he was putting more crab Rangoon into the service line, I few fell on the counter. And what did he almost gave me a heart attack. The few that fell onto the dirty counter, he plucked back up and threw right back into the buffet. I nearly choked. I just wanted less than a foot away. He did this in plain sight. So was I supposed to follow behind him and take my share from the traveling Rangoons? Gross. I skipped that portion. Then it hit me. What's going on in the back... where I can't see. How many broccoli, shrimp, egg rolls or sushi fall on the floor in blackened corners and crypts with dust and debris only to be scooped back up and thrown into the serving platter to be dished to clientele. Wow. I lost my appetite and left. I lost my trust and left. I lost my interest and left. It will take a lot to bring me back to this establishment, I hope they address issues like this to the staff because otherwise everything was on point! read more

I made sure to come hungry and was glad I did. On Friday night at 7pm, this place was packed! I've never had to wait for a table at a buffet, but at least it wasn't too long. My stomach wasn't agreeing with me standing around while my nose was picking up all the good smells. Once seated, they asked what we wanted to drink. There wasn't really a menu or anything, so I wasn't sure what the options are, but sticking to water was a safe bet. The choices here are impressive. Food is fairly standard, but I was happy with the seafood choices. The salmon and white fish were ok, but may have been the healthiest options there. Loads of standard Chinese buffet items and all just about average. They've got crawfish and fried goodies for the kids to add to the variety. I did not try their "hibachi" which was more like a Mongolian stir fry, but the pickings there were a bit slim at the time. Their sushi leaves a bit to be desired, but hey, you can grab all you want. I picked up 2 oysters but they hadn't been properly washed, so I ended up having to chew through grit on the first and gave up on the second. The fried crab is tricky to get into, but I imagine it would have been tasty if I had spent the time to break them apart. What stood out was the dessert. Plenty of fruit options and cakes. The cheesecake is ok too. Love the almond cookies at the end. And 8 types of ice cream! Like ice cream ice cream. The orange stood out to me next to the mint chip. You would have thought the kids playing in the water for the ice cream scoops would have turned me off, but when it comes to dessert, I mean business. I tried just about all the flavors (the butter pecan tasted pretty much just like butter) and was pretty satisfied. The place is clean and so were their bathrooms. Servers are relatively quick, though I never did manage to get a refill on water. Otherwise, pretty solid average place that I'd probably be back to every now and then. read more

It's pretty typical of what other Chinese all you can eat buffets offer, but there's a freezer with legit ice cream (not frozen yogurt) that's not usually common to restaurants like this. The patrons here seem to look like those typical of Golden Corral, if that tells you anything good or bad.
