Lovely and kind Nancy ensures that each guest is treated exceptionally well no matter how many people you bring to the restaurant. Their veggie egg rolls are yummy, too. They have a variety of seafood and vegetarian items including their repertoire of Thai dishes and Mongolian style -Chinese hybrids. All the people are amicable and friendly, so if you're a quiet type, you can rest assured that they'll treat you with good manners and high energy with excellent standards. Their restaurant choices in food and vegetables are for a variety of palettes: even if you don't generally order Chinese food, you'll take a delight in trying their freshly prepared items. Best Chinese restaurant we've found in the greater Princeton area. Food is more flavorful and just seems fresher than others we've tried. Very nice servers and i even like the sometimes "crusty" proprietor. Been there three times now and enjoyed each one. After driving hurriedly to make the lunch special, we arrived at 2:55. My wife walking in the door to get the table was told by the greeter "lunch special over". My wife protested that it was 2:55 and he said by the time your husband gets in here it will be 3 o'clock. Needless to say we left. Now we have been customers of China Chef for about 25 years and have had stuff delivered and sat in the place for all that time but something happened recently within say a year when Laura the original owner suddenly vanished we asked for her and was told that she was staying home with her grandchildren. I asked did she sell the place to this very unpleasant, middle-aged gentleman if you can call him that to which he replied no "she still own place" besides this most recent and last experience I will ever have there. The food is changed. It is not as tasty and the prices have gone up like everything else I guess through the roof one thing that has not changed is the fact that a delivered order comes in almost less time that it takes to drive from the restaurant to our house so as I have asked them before and never have gotten a straight answer is this food waiting around, heat it up and sent out and the answer can only be yes. That said: China chef was always very good and is not any longer. That's not to say you can't get a good meal because you can but it's rather unpleasant with this man that proclaimed that Laura is still the owner. I don't think so if she cared about her business. China Chef is more expensive than most, but their food quality does not justify their premium pricing. However, this restaurant has the rudest, most unpleasant welcome of all and the older Chinese man at the counter should never be allowed to greet customers as he is rude and unpleasant. Lunch Specials Review - China Chef in the Manor Center off Federal City Road, is surprisingly attractive. Large, clean, well furnished, it is not what I expected from most Chinese houses in the region. Although they do a big takeout trade, they are prepared for and desire customers who prefer to eat there. Time and attention to detail is evident. While the lunch specials menu is pretty much state of the art, the presentation is way beyond normal. Real plates and metal flatware are used for even the discounted midday meal. Very nice touch compared to most other places that serve styrofoam and plastic to all. They even offer hot tea without being asked. Way better than a tea bag or soda can. So, I was not bothered when the prices were a buck or two more those joints. My General's Chicken was plentiful with good chili content and the ubiquitous broccoli. The coating may have been thicker than I like in places, but did not cause much distraction. The fried rice was very good; fresh tasting and loaded with chunky BBQ pork, egg and veggies. Our family amd friends went there for dinner. The family friends are Asian and they recommend the food. We had a great time amd the owner is very nice and accommodating. We ordered a variety of family style dishes amd I ordered the duck do myself. They do not sell the duck as much but they prepared it for me nicely, and it was ok with 3.5 or 4 star rating for the duck alone. The price is also acceptable. I brought home dinner for my family of four the other night, and it was simply inedible. I agree with other reviews that some of the sauces tend to be a bit too sweet, such as the General Tso's and Orange flavored beef. However, you cannot go wrong with traditional favs like Lo Mein, Fried Ricd, and Egg Foo Young. Although the Thai cuisine is not authentic, certain dishes like Thai curry chicken are still quite yummy, and the Black Pepper Udon is a must try!
