Went to lunch w/ a friend here, primarily b/c it's near Costco and I needed to get gas there, and then saw that there are good reviews and the prices look pretty reasonable. All of the above were true, and the food was quite good too. Each of us got a lunch special w/ Thai Basil Beef, and it was a good dish. I enjoyed the wonton soup and side of rice too, and it was a really great price for all of that. Service is pretty fast and friendly; the waiter switched our soup orders by accident, but when he came back to bring more stuff, he noticed when we had switched them, which I give him some credit for. Everything is nice and fast, no issues there. Inside, it's a pretty good amount of space, and nice decoration throughout. My friend and I both thought the door to get from the foyer into the restaurant had a really nice design. Everything in there is clean and nicely put together. I've now been here on 3 separate instances for lunch and I can without a doubt say that the food here is top notch, service friendly, and the interior decor is classy. I was surprised that I had no review for this establishment. The lunch specials offer a selection of either Chinese, Thai or Sushi. Prices are around $12-13. The lunches includes choice of soup and white or fried rice. I've had the Thai Basil Chicken, General Tao's Tofu, Chicken with Garlic Sauce, and Pad Thai. My favorites are the Thai Basil and Garlic Sauce, simply because those entrees come with a plentiful amount of vegetables. The portions are plentiful that I had a second meal on all instances. For all visits, my entire party enjoyed our meal and would return. I look forward to my next trip to Modern Fusion. read more

I tried this place out on a work trip to Princeton with a co worker. I only picked it because it had event yelp reviews and was nearby. And I'm glad I did! The food was good and the service was super speedy, which we needed. If you're looking for ambiance and vibes, this is not your place though. It's nestled in a shopping center and the set up is a bit low budget (the menu is a good example of this--it looks like three different menus taped together lol). Second time back, this time following a show at the nearby Kelsey Theater. Tonight we met Sue (assuming manager/possible ownership) who was just so friendly and engaging; talked about their cooking styles and spice levels to understand better helping to make our dining experiences even more tasty and memorable. Shout out to Jack who took terrific care of us. We opened with both the sharing spring rolls (2 in order) - I'm not one for egg rolls or highly fried rolls but their spring rolls are nice, with a light crunch and you can taste all the ingredients inside and the Sakura Roll from their specials board- salmon, tuna mango wrapped in soy paper-- wonderful roll, soft, nice texture, great for anyone new to sushi. Following our conversation with Sue, we ordered the Black Mushroom with Chinese vegetables off the menu special page (to our happy surprise--- bok choy) and added chicken in a garlic sauce --- a terrific tasting dish. Plus we shared a Thai red curry shrimp spice level 5 and that was awesome, needs more spice still but it was a filling dish and they don't skimp on the shrimps-- No tails and cleaned, too. To be quite honest, even though I've been here several times, I pretty much stick to the sushi when I'm here. Even though I see 97% (a scientifically derived number) of the other diners eating the Chinese dishes, and even though when I come with my family, they typically like to get the Chinese dishes, I pretty much stick with the sushi. I tend to like my Chinese food more along Sichuan style or straight up Cantonese, so outside of some of the appetizers (the pan fried shrimp dumplings are pretty tasty), and the Mapo Tofu, which was not all that spicy, I haven't delved much into the Chinese menu. The main reason for my continued patronage is that they serve some pretty good specialty rolls here. As far as this area goes, their sushi seems to be pretty solid, and I prefer it to most of the other Fusion places I've tried in Lawrenceville and Princeton. The Ocean Sashimi roll, the Black Dragon roll and the Hawaiian roll are three that I go for most often. I've also had good luck with the Sashimi and Sushi plates. Service is friendly, although sometimes distracted, but unless i"m in a rush (I'm usually not), I'll take friendly/distracted over unfriendly/attentive. They also serve their tea with the actual leaves in the pot (let it steep when they bring it to your table), and that's one of the little things that makes the place better than most of the Asian Fusion places around. read more

This has become one of my favorite local Asian restaurants. The server and hostess are so friendly and helpful. We were seated in the party room, and the staff was constantly checking in on us to make sure the room temperature was comfortable. Other than the rice noodle, all the dishes were recommended to us by the server. These were authentically prepared chinese dishes and they were all delicious. We were travelling for the Thanksgiving holiday and stopped based on Yelp reviews and were quite pleased with the experience. The decor was quite elegant for a restaurant in a strip mall, the staff was friendly and attentive and the sushi was, on the whole, quite good. We had the Sakura & Naruto rolls, both of which had velvety tuna, the black pepper tuna tataki, which was, as advertised, very very peppery, the pork dumplings and the green beans from the Chinese part of the menu. The menu said "green beans in garlic sauce" but the waitress asked if we'd like them "Chinese style" instead. They might have been the best green beans I've ever had in an Asian restaurant. And prices were surprisingly reasonable for the quality of tuna they were serving. We'd definitely come back again if we are ever in the area. read more

The staff here are so friendly and will give you recommendations for traditional off menu items which are so delicious. I was quite happy with the amount of care put into my food and the positive demeanor of the staff. A little pricy but worth it. I like quiet restaurants only because they're conducive to conversation and frankly, why put up with bedlam and theme park histrionics if it can be avoided. That said, Lawrenceville's Modern Fusion may be too quiet as there never seems to be any customers. We've eaten here many times over the years as it's an easy fallback after enduring the scrum at the nearby Costco. It's not great (nor does it suck) but it is convenient and service is always spot on. On second thought, I've figured it out. In the words of the old home electronics felon Crazy Eddie... their prices are INSANE. This is a strip mall waystation with midtown Manhattan pricing. The new owners need to get real. You can drop some serious coin in here on some very pedestrian Chinese food. So if you like solitude, loneliness has a price. After the maniacs at Costco, clearly it's a price that I'm willing to pay. Three lonely stars. read more

I've reported it about my experiences here before, but I went back the other night for dinner with five other people. They gave us a round table for six. which was perfect for being able to see and talk to everyone. We got the small sushi boat, which was happily gobbled up. Someone noticed the pork spareribs in order those and they were excellent. I will keep those in mind for the future. Went for some sushi recently for lunch. Sashimi entree and a spicy yellowtail roll. The tuna sashimi and the spicy yellowtail was not great. The spicy yellowtail roll has so much breadcrumb mixed into the filling. I should of just ordered a different style. The yellowtail sashimi was excellent. I liked that you were able to choose hot and sour soup or wonton and not only the miso soup option. Give this place a try. I will try the chinese food next time read more

A good first experience at this 3 week old fusion joint. There's been solid Asian restaurants in this strip mall location for years. Exactly how many I've lost track of, but I think I've missed trying a few from the past few years. With encouraging albeit beginner reviews beckoning, I stopped by for takeout over the weekend. It should be noted that the interior is new and clean, and would provide a nice dine in experience. When trying a new Chinese place I usually opt for lo mein or another go to dish of mine to better compare with my own favorite places. I almost did that but at the last moment selected drunken noodles instead. What I was really craving was sushi so I also ordered their Atlantic roll. The Covid set up for takeout is very good, they have a separate register area so you don't even need to step inside of the dining room. The Atlantic roll is basically a pimped out shrimp tempura roll. This one had some slightly spicy tuna resting on the top. It was good, but my fav local fusion restaurant does it better. The ingredients were fresh, but the tempura shrimp were not very crispy, and the toppings were understated. I wouldn't order this again. The noodles were very good though. A huge portion with a very nice amount of perfectly cooked and tender chicken. Spice wise this was a mediumish range and all the correct Thai flavors seemed present. The noodles were al dente as well. At a full Thai restaurant there would likely have been more veggies( carrots, string beans etc) this one just had pepper, onion and spouts. I'm not sure if MF will replace my current fav Asian spots. But I do plan on visiting soon to try their Chinese offerings. Readers interested should check out the weekday lunch special menu. Joined friends here for dinner...glad we did! I'm not a sushi lover, however, one of our friends ordered and loved the sushi. Fresh, interesting combinations. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We always want a restaurant that is quiet so that we can catch up...and...two of us wear hearing aids and need less noise. We were early so it was pretty empty when we got there. We've eaten at MF about a dozen times as a couple and with friends. Everyone agrees service and the food are great. Lo mien dishes and sushi are our favorites. Crazy good deserts too. We've been there for lunches and dinners and it's consistently great. Our book club (MIT Club of Princeton) has met at Modern Fusion for a year. That they accommodate a diverse group of up to 20 is no challenge for the menu and staff. Modern Fusion is very good. A primarily Chinese house with front end sushi bar and limited Thai choices, I stopped in for a Chinese lunch on an extremely hot afternoon in Central Jersey. This place has gone through several iterations of Asian kitchens in the years I have followed its history, and while they have all been above average, this one seems to hit the sweet spot between traditional Chinois-American, Japanese sushi and Thai noodle/curry options. But, as it is Chinese owned and managed, first exploration was properly to their strong suit. My lunch special consisted of Wonton Soup, Orange Beef and White Rice ($9). It arrived in the hands of my lovely server, who apologized for her newness on the job, and her mistake in ordering the dinner size meal when I had requested the midday size. Honestly, while that may have been so, my impression was that the platter may have been large for lunch, it seemed small for dinner, and not a $17 meal. Luckily, I paid only the smaller sum, which was the right thing to do for the business. The Wonton Soup was fairly freshly made with chicken consumme and two well stuffed wonton. It was served scalding hot from the microwave reheat, and once sufficiently cooled, had a very good taste. By the end I was picking the bowl up in my hands and pouring it directly down my gullet. The Orange Beef was superlative, with tart/sweet orange citrus profile, green and red pepper, onion, pineapple, Szechuan red pepper and thin strips of beef flash fried without breading. The texture was mildly crunch chew, which was about the most enjoyable form of this dish I had eaten in years. Really excellent. Certainly worth the price of admission. The rice was also recently cooked, and it crumbled easily when transfered from its small bowl to plate to mix with the ample delicious tawny sauce. This meal was so good, I may never make it to the other parts of their menu. As long as the lunch size is reasonable, I will be satisfied. Of course, I didn't mind receiving the benefit of my server's oversight. In this case, bigger was certainly better. read more

We recently tried this spot within the last month. My 4-year old son is obsessed with their egg noodle soup. My son is allergic to shrimp so it was kind of them to substitute with pork dumplings. When the server noticed we were low on broth, she offered some more. I would skip the chili wonton dumplings, it was underwhelming. Sushi is good and fresh! I've lived in Princeton for over 3 years and this is by far my favorite sushi and Chinese place. I love the food and the customer service is always amazing and kind. We had a group of 14 come in last minute for my birthday dinner and the accommodated us and even stayed open late for us to finish eating. Even brought out fresh cut fruit and sang happy birthday.
