If I was dying, and the only thing that could save me was eating Chinese carry out, I would go to McDonalds and eat an undercooked McRib before ever eating here again. It was that bad. Where to begin......beef on a stick and chicken on a stick apps....both overcooked so bad that I can only assume the chef went outside for a smoke break while they were submerged in old cooking oil. 1 bite of each and into the trash. Kung Pao Chicken - I asked for white meat and just peanuts and scallions. I was told "no" because that would require "too much chicken" in the dish if he couldn't load it up with other veggies. We settled on just onions. It was like eating chicken in soy sauce water. No flavor, chicken was chewy and gross. Into the trash. The pan fried dumplings - store bought dumplings that were cheap and had no flavor. At least these were edible, but I could only manage 3 before they too went into the garbage. Bad enough so far? Here's the worst part. Hot and Sour Soup - was so thick and coagulated you could literally cut it with a knife. And it was hot, making it even more disgusting. My son tried it and immediately got up to spit it out and go brush his teeth. I literally spooned some out and it sat in my bowl like it was a flan. I've never seen anything like it. Straight to the trash. And finally, you can't mess up fried rice, right? WRONG. We opened the container and the rice had a grey color I've never seen in food before. See attached picture. I studied it up close because I was so curious how another human would "cook" that and send it out the door with a customer. I refused to even try a bite it was so nasty. We ordered takeout, the food was hot, but it absolutely had no flavor! We ordered the Happy Family, it has beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, and lobster (very small piece with the shell still on). You would think that was all of those different meats in it would be flavorful, but it absolutely had no flavor or taste at all. We got the spring rolls and they were really mushy! And they didn't put any soy sauce, sweet-and-sour, hot mustard, duck sauce in the bag to help with the flavoring at all, and now that I think about it, no Fortune cookies! Ordered online and when I got there I saw the place is very dingy. I ordered fried dumplings, pork egg foo young, and egg roll. When I brought it home the fried dumplings were burnt on one side and the other side was nearly raw. The egg foo young was also burnt and the gravy tasted sour. The egg rolls were nothing but mush. Not sure what is going on with delaware but I can't seem to find good Chinese food anywhere! I ordered Kung pao chicken. I got home and opened up a container With a bunch of mixed vegetables -like celery, carrots, water chestnuts mushrooms and little baby corns with a scattering of thinly sliced pieces of white chicken in a soupy sauce - what the heck? They barely even had any peanuts in it.... Oiy. It was not appealing and the taste was not great. I threw it out. Kung pao chicken is supposed to be made with chunks of sautéed thigh meat in a thick flavorful delicious sauce with scallions and peanuts in it.... Had this restaurant for dinner the other night, there is only carry out available and even if they had dine in it would be extremely limited. I got the hot and sour soup and the steamed dumplings for an appetizer, both were good. For the main we had the orange chicken and the Hawaii 5-0, the orange chicken was exceptionally good and not over breaded, the Hawaii 5-0 was decent but lacked spicing, although it had lots of shrimp, scallops, pork, and shrimp, just a little boring and bland, next time I will ask them to spice it up a bit, the entree sizes were decent as well, this is a four star lite, or a 3 star strong, if just for a little more flavor in the Hawaii 5-0 read more

Every year I try and order safely from this menu - like chicken and broccoli or chicken lo mein hoping that with a little soy sauce or chili oil it will satisfy my need for Chinese. It is G-d awful. I even went in to speak to them. I owned a local restaurant here at the beach I get that being busy can result in poor quality food , but this place fails on every level. Overcooked, under seasoned, often rubbery unnatural beef and chicken. If you have to eat here, I'd say stick to shrimp rolls, chicken and beef skewers or the smallish portion BBQ ribs anything that has little to do with being 'recooked' food in the woks. I eat out often and consider myself a foodie of sorts. This was my first time in trying this Chinese restaurant in Selbyville as I visit here often. I ordered the Wonton soup, Bourbon chicken, and Cream Cheese Crab Wonton. The food appearance looked nice, however food taste and quality was very different. The Wonton Soup was very bland, it tasted like water with a hint of salt, absolutely no flavor, no spring onions and no strips of pork. Just when I thought it would get better, I began to eat my Bourbon Chicken which was even worse. We think of Bourbon Chicken as chunks of chicken thigh meat with a teriyaki sauce. Oh not here, it was battered chicken pieces, I thought until I bit in to a few. What was inside was just chicken skin and meat pounded paper thin then battered to look like a thicker piece of meat. It was so tough I could not eat it. Lastly, the Cream Cheese Crab Wonton. You get 8 fried wontons which again looked great until you bite into one. The wontons were tough and rubber like and the stuffing well they must have had a shortage on stuffing that day. If you enjoy Chinese food as I do please try someplace else and share on Yelp. 1st visit. Was hesitant to try this restaurant since the reviews are all over the place. Wife ordered General Tso chicken which was pretty good. I ordered Schezuan chicken which was odd. Veggies were fresh but the chicken was like eating sponge. Looked like real chicken but was like McNugget meat. Don't know if it's highly processed or what. I really have no idea what the other reviewers are used to eating but this ain't good Chinese food! We live right near the place and have tried just about the entire menu and ordered over 20 times. No matter what you order you'll generally get the same mix of vegetables with a soupy sauce. The people are as rude as you can get barking like dogs rather than politely speaking to patrons. That said the only tolerable dishes in my opinion: Gen Tso Chic (mediocre but tolerable), dumplings, ribs (if you like grease), soup (tough to screw that up), crab wonton, sweet and sour shrimp/pork. The hibachi I got tasted like they made it from road kill and it's was virtually unchewable. Some of the seafood dishes I've ordered smelled soooo bad i thought i was in a Juarez whore house! when I opened them I didn't dare venture further. Finally I found a decent Chinese restaurant near Ocean City. The staff is efficient and helpful. I found them friendly as well. I loved the vegan and lower calorie steamed entrees. They even put the sauce in the side. I had the steamed chicken with vegetables with brown sauce on the side. It was plentiful and delicious. My husband had the combination fried rice. They call it Young Chow fried rice, and it included pork, chicken, shrimp, and beef. It was very good also. They have a small restaurant which is more suited for casual dining and take out. They were very busy with take out orders which bodes well for how good it is. We will definitely visit again. It is located close to Harris Teeter on Rt 54 outside of Fenwick Island. read more

We were served an open quart takeout containers with no spoons. Not sure how they expected us to eat it. Bring your own bowls, cups, chopsticks, and water if you plan on eating there. This is probably the most disappointing Chinese takeout I have ever ordered. I had the #C18 General Tso's chicken combo with shrimp fried rice and an egg roll. My friend had the #73 Chicken with String Bean and white rice. Both of us agreed the food was not very good. For my part, the chicken was soggy and the syrupy thick coating was sickly sweet and ladled on. Not a good flavor balance at all. The "fried" rice was really disappointing as well. I'm guessing that it came out of a can pre-cooked, and if it ever touched a Wok I would be surprised. It was kind of dry and quite bland. There were a couple of pieces of shrimp (I had to hunt for) in the rice. The egg roll was OK, but I didn't realize they came in "compact". The chicken and green beans might have been more interesting if they had cooked the beans Sichuan-style with a bit of spice. As it was, it was bland and uninteresting. The portions were on the small side, but adequate. On the upside, the place seemed pretty clean. Fortunately, there are other options within a reasonable distance. China Chef looks like a little hole in the wall, barely noticeable from 54 in between Scotty's and Energy Gym. But do not be fooled. These people know what they are doing when it comes to crafting great tasting Chinese food with quality ingredients. I always try a place at least twice before writing a review... You never know if you happened to catch them on their best day ever, or their worst, and I believe that nobody is perfect 100% of the time. This place has wowed us EVERY time! We have tried many different Chinese places before checking out China Chef, even though they were the closest to where we live. I can say honestly, based on looks from the exterior, and what appeared to be a lack of customers, is what kept us from ordering. What a mistake! This is now our go to Chinese for take out. The General Tso's comes out crispy and delicious. Not very spicy though. Mei Fun noodles with pork were great. Crab wontons dipped in homemade mustard are killer. Simple fried rice is done right and excellent. Portions are large, usually 2 meals per order, and prices are more than reasonable for the beach. Support these guys! read more
