13 AUG 2024 The young lady taking orders was an absolute delight, she was bubbly , polite and efficient. That alone is worth a star bonus. Overall it is a pretty standard strip mall type place and I actually like these kinds of restaurants for Chinese carryout. You know what you're getting there's not a lot of fancy presentation or packaging, it's generally good basic americanized Chinese dishes. They made Hunan beef for me as it isn't normally on the combination dinner menu. The beef texture was very well executed. A few bites in, the taste was a little bit off, could have been a bit too much baking soda bath (how that texture is achieved) or maybe a bit of sanitizer residue in one of the dishes/pots used. Not bad enough to put me off of it, but it was noticible in some of the bites. I am willing to chalk that up to a slip up, and not their normal output. This is a nice enough place that if I was a local, I'd probably stop by when in the mood for these meals. There was another place one strip over, I guess to be fair I would have to experience both to pick a favorite. Hunan Garden is a little more expensive across the menu, especially some of the "specialty entrees" than other strip mall Chinese carryout in other cities. The area is called Ocean Pines, suburb of Ocean City, and I saw a lot of nice cars. They are operating correctly in a capitalist market charging what the market will bear, so that's all good. Important note. This location is in the Ocean Pines area just off Rt 90. I think it's technically Berlin. Just be aware when ordering for takeout First. Support local owned and operated businesses. This was my first time here. I found their website online and I was able to easily order and they called to confirm. I had the Coconut chicken, teriyaki chicken skewers and egg rolls. Everything was cooked to order. While I was waiting, the staff was chatting with other customers, who seemed to be regulars. The ambiance is very casual. In a shopping center with plenty of parking. We came to Ocean Pines for a get away Valentine's day/Lunar New Year weekend and were very happy to find a Chinese take out joint open the night of Lunar New Year. In terms of COVID, they've cleared away all the tables so it's take out only. Everyone working is behind large plastic barriers, wearing gloves, and masks. I was pretty impressed with how serious they were taking COVID precautions. The food was pipping hot and ready for us when we arrived (we called ahead and asked for pick up 30 minutes away from Ocean Pines). Top: General Tso chicken combination comes with fried rice and egg roll. Great decision to get it with fried rice because it soaked up all the delicious sweet General Tso dark sauce. It could have been a bit spicier cuz it kinda was just orange chicken without the spice. But delicious nonetheless after driving all the way from DC. 9/10 Middle: Kung Pao chicken full large order. There was so much! Ample amounts of fresh celery, bell peppers, water chestnuts, peanuts to give an extra crunch to the dish. Bamboo shoots is always a plus for me. Though again, this dish didn't have that spice or chilli flakes/peppers I was expecting. But giving a higher review for amount of food & variety of vegetables 7/10 "Vegetable chow mein" is what we ordered... But somehow got just a lot of vegetables with no noodles? Very confusing. We ordered this dish specific because for Lunar New Year it's customary to eat noodles to signify long life in the upcoming new year. So was pretty disappointed to not find any noodles? We were given a lot of vegetables in the typically corn starch slurry sauce. Not sure where the mix up happened since we checked and our receipt definitely says vegetable chow mein. 2/10 Overall, 4 stars for quantity of food & quality/variety of fresh vegetables accompanying everything... but not the expected spice in the dishes we ordered. Also the lack of mein (noodle) in the vegetable chow mein dish. But overall we were very impressed to find a quality Chinese joint in the middle of Ocean Pines! read more

Let me preface this by saying I just moved from central NJ. The takeout Chinese food there was AMAZING. Compared to that, this food was quite bland. The dumplings weren't even in dumpling skins (I think they just deep fried wonton skins with bland meat inside), the beef and broccoli had no flavor aside from "brown sauce" and the boneless spare ribs just had red sugar on them. However, the meats were soft and juicy and the veggies were super fresh. Everything was actually cooked perfectly, it's just the taste that was lacking. The food was good just really really basic. I'd like to try some of their Hunan food or spicier options to see if they have more flavor. Either way, this has been the best so far in this area that we've tried. read more

This is pretty standard American Chinese takeout. On a recent visit to the beach, my family and I got a variety of stuff and it was all tasty and filling, but nothing spectacular. They made my chicken with mixed vegetables extra spicy at my request. The menu has listed some Cantonese dishes which one might not find at every Chinese places. Prices were decent and preparation fast (so fast, in fact, they called us on our way to pick it up to make sure we hadn't forgotten). It was enough to serve both of us without ordering an entree. Everything on that tray was amazing. Flavorful, tender beef on a stick. Great ribs and shrimp toast to die for. My Mongolian Beef entree had plenty of beef and the sauce was spot on I added some medium spicy to it and lover every bite! Wifey had the Shrimp Chow Mein and said it was the best she ever had. We ordered Crab Rangoon's (after another reviewer recommended them) and General Tao's Chicken. They immediately got bonus points because they only use white meat chicken. Flavor was different from any other GT chicken we have gotten. More heavy on the black pepper and not chili pepper but we would still eat again. All in all, we will be back! read more

Recently moved to DE and have been looking for any decent Chinese since I am a complete fan of pretty much any sort of Chinese. Hunan is the best I've found in the area. I live in Millsboro and it's worth the trip to Ocean Pines to eat here. Nothing fancy inside and the food is good to pretty decent depending on the dish. Unlike other Chinese places in the area their dishes have the correct flavors. This isn't big city Chinese but pretty close and the best I've found in DE. read more

She works everyday and raised her kids there who are now helping out. Usually get the Beef & Broccoli which is hot and fresh. Like Shrimp Egg Foo Young too. I immediately called the owner (Judi), advised that I have been a customer since 1995 and explained my dissatisfaction. She said she would add meat next time. What about this time? Our go-to take out place when visiting OC. The staff is super friendly and they will specialized your order to specifications. Not too many restaurants will do that in. OC. It's out of the way when staying in OC, but worth our drive. The portions are very nice and big and the prices are very affordable. The storefront doesn't look very impressive and if you go there after dusk, it's easy to miss as the parking lighting is quite dim. The vegetable spring rolls are awesome. read more

Great place. We were in the mood for Chinese food and did a yelp search and found this four star gem. The atmosphere did not lend itself for us to eat in, so we did take out. Everything was delicious. From the won ton soup and egg rolls to the BBQ spareribs. We also had shrimp lo mein, which was also great. Even the fortune cookies were good and better than the average.
