Great food and excellent service at this popular Chinese restaurant. I tried China City at a recent Yelp event and returned here with the family for Father's Day dinner. I loved the food at the Yelp event and this time my family got to try it and also came away with very positive reactions. For dinner, we shared the Shanghai Family Dinner #2. A highlight for me is the House Fried Rice that is loaded with meats, veggies, etc. It's worth the upgrade for all that you get. We had a great server, Joshua, and our food was out quickly and tasted great. As is customary, we had several leftovers that Joshua packed for us and presented to us in a cute decorative reusable bag. Sadly, over the years the service and quality has gone way down. The food used to taste made fresh to order and now it tastes like chain fast food. The last time we were there for happy hour we waited a half hour and still couldn't put in a drink order. Another group came in and they were immediately served. When we asked the waitress to put in our drink order she rudely responded that she would get to us when she could. We left and have never been back. This place has a fine Chinese dining ambiance. The food looks and smells amazing. Though unlike Panda Express, it tastes pretty decent. However if you've tasted authentic Chinese food you've tasted better: but ti be fair I think seasoning with salt per your taste would remedy any taste issues for me, which I didn't do. read more

It's been 10 years since I was here, and it could be another 10 before I give these guys another chance. I had to read my original review, but my memory said decent food, but too sweet, too expensive and too small of a portion. We wanted to come for the end of lunch. Unfortunately, there was an accident, so instead of showing up at 2:50, we arrived at 3:20. We decided to go with a single entre, soup and rice. We considered an appetizer but found them to be overpriced. The soup was 4/5. Flavor was A+, but $6 for a soup is criminal. Most places are $3 for a cup and for $6-$7, you are getting a medium bowl. Again, the soup was flavorful and had two large wontons in it, and I won't lie, it was better than any $3 cup, but still, it was worth $4 at best, not $6. We like spicy food and from what we remembered, dishes that should have been spicy were sweet, so we ordered the one dish that said spicy, General Ng's. It wasn't spicy at all, it was sweet and tangy, almost a mild sweet and sour. We were not happy with this at all, Also, at $19, the portion was smaller than places that charge $16 for an entrée. Service was fine, I guess it was actually pretty good since we never had to flag our server down. She kept our drinks full and despite not being real friendly, was still professional. A couple recent reviews are 5 stars, I call BS. I think this place has potential, but there is no value here. You pay more for less and everything has way too much sugar and for people that can't have sugar, this place is bad for your health. We also asked for chili oil, because photos showed they made their own and we got some homemade sriracha, which was not chili oil. Either they don't make it anymore or our server brought us the wrong item. At the end of the day, I doubt ownership cares, they make the food the way they want, charge what they want to charge and serve lunch size portions while charging dinner prices. read more

We decided to use spring break to visit restaurants in our "new" neighborhood we hadn't had a chance to due to the pandemic. China City was one I was skeptical about - the reviews on here had me unsure what to expect. Upon entry they ambiance is beautiful and the restaurant is clean. We were greeted with waters and our waiter came shortly after. We opted for the family dinner for two and a pot of tea. Wonton soup was amazing. I usually find them flavorless but this was flavorful and delicious. The bbq pork was as bbq pork should be and the spring rolls were delicious as well. For our mains we had veggie fried rice, sweet and sour pork, and cashew chicken. No joke the cashew chicken was the best cashew chicken I have had in a long while. Plenty of veggies and the flavor was on point. The bbq pork was good as well and the veggie fried rice delightful. I have seen complaints regarding portions on here so after we were stuffed I took a photo. We are taking a lot of food home. This was a family meal for two. Check was $54 after tax. We also got fortune cookies that were really good, nice and thick. I have found my new Chinese place - and will be back really soon! read more

My girlfriend and I came here for a few birthdays - her mom, brother, and stepdad all have one in April! Made a reservation thru OpenTable for 6pm and were seated immediately. My girlfriend went with the wine room table for an extra $25. It's secluded and more intimate but I would skip it. We ordered the dinner combo #2 which came with egg rolls, potstickers, hot & sour soup, Mongolian beef, almond chicken, vegetable fried rice (we subbed chicken in for $2 more), mandarin shrimp, general ng's chicken, and veggie chow mein. This to me was a fantastic value and I definitely recommend doing the combo if you come in a big group. The food was all exquisite - the almond and general ng's were fluffy with good crunch and flavor. The potstickers and egg rolls were crispy. We ordered a few drinks and the total came out to $245 after tax/tip, roughly $40 per person if you omit the $25 wine room fee charge. The service is where they lose a star. It was ok, but it took a very long time to get drinks or even extra water. All in all I still recommend this place. The ambiance is nice and the food is excellent. read more

On Christmas day we we saw the big line of people ordering food and delivery drivers taking out out food, so figured it must be really good if so many people are ordering there( WRONG) ! Ordered king pao chicken, sesame chicken and beef with broccoli, plus fried rice. All 71 plus dollars of the food we bought was disgusting. It tasted nothing like Chinese food. It was flavorless, and super greasy, the grease must have been old and it made all your clothes smell like an old grease. They put giant chunks of vegetables and the food was swimming in water. Worst tasting Chinese food I've ever eaten (gross). Panda express tastes a million times better. Maybe they was cheapin out on ingredients because it was so packed with orders and they ran out of the ingredients that they usually use and just hacked together whatever they could find available or had cooks who didn't know how to cook Chinese food. Whatever the case, the Chinese food was horrible on Christmas Day. I plan on trying to get my 71 dollars back that I wasted on this place. I have been coming to this restaurant since I lived here in Mill Creek! So .. a very long time! I think they just got new ownership and I am loving the slight change and improvement in the menu! Their cashew chicken has always been my favorite and hasn't changed which is fine because I always liked it. But their Mongolian beef?! SO GOOD! Me and my mom are obsessed and always order the Mongolian beef for takeout. Their crispy fried chicken wings were also a big favorite. I order those to start with every time. Our first time here. Greeted and seated right away. The server was attentive, and kind. The appetizers and drinks came out right away, and were followed by our main meals about 10 minutes later. We really enjoy our dinner at China City. The staff was great, the food was enjoyable, the atmosphere is fresh and modern. So why 4 stars instead of 5? Perhaps it's the menu. Even though it is predictable, it's kinda boring. Nothing on the menu stood out, it's all the same stuff you get everywhere. I would love to see some edgy items. Make me want to come back to try something new on the menu (like seasonal). Perhaps it was the food. Yes, it was enjoyable, tasty. But again, it wasn't oozing with flavor or making me want to gasp with wonder. Make the food so I have to come back. Put something on the menu that draws us in. Perhaps it was everything. Yes, predictable is great, but overall, it was kinda boring. Just to clarify, the atmosphere (style, cleanliness) at China City is top notch. The staff was great, fast service, and the food was enjoyable; however, we were hoping for just a little surprise taking China City over the top. I have to say that China City has upped their game! I've always liked them, but I feel like they've stepped things up over the last year, and now I LOVE them! For the first time in a long while, my husband and I ordered takeout from China City last week. We got the family combo dinner #1 for two people, but added Broccoli Beef as well. We were very impressed with the freshness of the food, how it didn't taste greasy at all, but most of all, they give very fair and generous portions for $36. We were worried that it wouldn't be enough for us, so we added the Broccoli Beef, and while it tasted great, it was totally unnecessary to do so. The two person family meal is easily enough for two people to have nice portions, and even have some left over for lunch the next day. My 6'6 and 250lb husband and I each had it dinner, and again split the rest for lunch the following day. A nice added touch is that for takeout, they keep the Sweet and Sour Sauce separate so you can mix it together when you are ready. No soggy entrees here! I was so impressed last week, that I ordered from them AGAIN tonight. Even though it was take out, it was piping hot and carefully packaged. I think my favorite is probably the Cashew Chicken, but the Sweet and Sour Pork is a definite kid pleaser. I love, love, love the Wonton Soup. The fried tofu tastes like oil soaked sponges season w/five spice. $15 cocktail wasn't really worth it. We used to love coming here with family but I'm starting to think it's no longer worth it. We absolutely LOVE this place! It's our new favorite place to get Chinese food. Everything is fantastic. I usually order the hot tea, my husband and I order their combo and substitute with Egg Flour Soup ( Egg drop soup) which is amazing! Gyozas (which are huge, handmade and delicious) and egg roles. Unfortunately, that slow service became a theme for the rest of my visit. I ordered the Mongolian beef, and my girlfriend had the cashew chicken. We both thought the food was decent, though the portion sizes were on the small side. Let's just say we finished everything on our plates with nothing left to take home, which is unusual for us. We also tried the pumpkin spice drink specials, which came in lowball glasses with a lot of ice. While they tasted okay, they only held about 4 ounces of actual drink. At $26 for the pair, plus 10% tax and a 20% tip, those two small drinks ended up costing us almost $30. I also ordered a bottomless Coke, but with the lack of attentive service, it didn't feel bottomless. My glass went empty before I finished my meal, and it didn't get refilled until we were asking for the check. I like to drink while I eat, so the slow refills were a letdown. And I had my empty glass at the edge of the table which means I would like a refill. We also ordered several plates and shared; a sweet and sour pork lunch plate with fried rice, mongolian beef, sesame chicken, and house chow mein. The chow mein was literally the best I've ever had - so good! The sweet and sour pork and mongolian beef were tasty too. I wouldn't re-order the sesame chicken, it was a good dish, just not what I was expecting compared to other restaurants I've had it in and not for me, personally. My boyfriend enjoyed the fried rice though I didn't make it that far. Plates were good size and we had plenty left over to take home for dinner. Right before dining here, I found out this place was a local chain and affiliated with the Oak Harbor restaurant of the same name... that made me a little nervous as we've eaten at that one before and weren't particularly impressed. Overall disappointing experience at China City. Pricey, inauthentic, dry and overly salty - this was a PF Chang's experience masquerading as upscale dining. The service was friendly and scarily prompt - the food came out 2 minutes after placing an order, which is always suspicious and led me to believe items were hanging out under warmers for quite awhile (tasting them confirmed this theory). The wonton soup is particularly bad, with what tastes like a saltwater base, soggy disintegrating wontons, and a floating piece of soggy bokchoy. Such a shame, as the space/ambiance is rather nice, but we'll never be back. read more

I've received great food delivery from China City during the lockdown, so I was enthusiastic about having lunch there. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I ordered a jalapeno cucumber margarita. It was delicious and had just enough burn to make sure you knew that it had a jalapeno vodka base. The only issue I had was that the cucumber was muddled and clogged the straw. That is perhaps a personal preference. The hot and sour soup was delicious too. However the lunch entrée was where everything fell flat. I ordered the Szechuan sea bass with the vegetable chow mein. It was served with a single crab cheese wonton appetizer. The appetizer was good, but the vegetable chow mein tasted stale. It was just warm, not hot, with several cold spots. My guess is that it was reheated from last night. There was several nice-sized pieces of sea bass, but the entire entrée seemed ... tired, not fresh. Almost as if there were components of the dish that were simply made independently then mixed together in a bowl and served on a plate, instead of a cohesive dish. After my meal it took an additional 15 minutes to get the check, and I appreciate being able to scan the QR code to pay directly (I'll put the "offer emails" in my junk folder. By bestie and I met up at China City for a light bite and beer. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Happy Hour is offered daily in the lounge. Food Happy Hour runs from 11am-7pm and drink Happy Hour runs from 2pm-6pm. The lounge is large, clean and visually appealing. My bestie and I had a Manny's for $6 each. We shared the Brussels Sprouts for $6 (hh). The Brussels were crisp-tender and flavorful. We both enjoyed our choice. Our server was friendly and efficient. Overall, I wish that we would have had more time to try other menu items and visit. I look forward to returning in the near future to sample more of the menu items. read more
