China Cottage has officially become one of our regular spots! We stopped in for lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes. The lunch specials are an incredible value--you get to choose a soup, salad, or spring roll as an appetizer in addition to your meal. I chose the egg drop soup, and I can honestly say it was the BEST egg drop soup I have ever had. It was flavorful, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout our visit, making the experience even better. The ambiance inside is warm, clean, and inviting, making it a great place to enjoy a meal whether you're dining alone or with family and friends. What could improve is them honoythere patrons. When someone patronizes a business and then you let them know the food was not satisfactory it should be replaced and not frowned upon because of your skin color. I ordered fried rice and I had eaten some of it before I realized it did not have bean sprouts in it. I called and she said to bring it back and I did. Upon arrival the return was scrutinized because I have eaten part not all of it. They would not replace the order and pretty much told me to leave without any outburst on my part. Pot stickers (pork) were small but good. Sauce provided very salty. Definitely need to provide more white rice with meals - tiny box with each entree is not enough. Will go back to try other items. Staff was extremely nice and my takeout order was ready very quickly, however I really did not enjoy the food at all... The chicken was very low quality meat and I got several stringy/chewy/inedible pieces that I had to spit out. Plus, it had an odd unpleasant taste to it as well. My husband and I had lunch at China Cottage today, and it was DELICIOUS!!! By far the best Chinese food we have had. The lunch portions were large as well. My husband had the Hunan chicken and devoured it. I had the sesame chicken and it was amazingly tasty! We started our meal with the potstickers and spring rolls--both of which were great!! We ordered for pick up and the food was prepared quickly and correctly. The spring rolls were fresh and crunchy! I had rice noodles with garlic and beef. The portion size was generous and everything was fresh. The beef was especially tasty. I ate my leftovers the next day with some added garlic powder and sesame oil, and boy, that was amazing! In the past 3 months, the quality of service at China Cottage has significantly decreased. with takeout the Hot and Sour Soup has been 1/2 or ~3/4 full. Numerous times the crispy noddles are missing, the Mongolian Beef, the rice noddles are missing or when fried rice is ordered we received white rice. However, the food received is very good. It's as mentioned earlier the questionable quality of service. It makes me wonder if there was a change in ownership. read more

I decided to try this location out because it is close to home but I'm sorry I did. We ordered soup, egg foo young, general Tso' chicken plate, spring rolls and, hunan chicken plate. Well I was Not a happy camper when I my food came out the same time we got the appetizers all at the same time! :-( By the time I finished my soup you know everything else was COLD. My rice was like it came out of the fridge. I asked for another one it it was the same. Even though it's cold I can take it home to heat up...... why bother going out? Maybe because it's new in our neighborhood or maybe the servers are new?? However what I did give 2 stars for was the food did look good and the facility is clean. Server never said her name. ( I asked and it's Vicki) and We never got the spring rolls we ordered. I wish I had taken pictures! We have eaten at this restaurant multiple times over many years, and after moving to Florida almost a year ago have yet to find a Chinese restaurant as good as this one! We frequented the one on Gallatin Rd. in Madison for many years and we're delighted when this branch opened in Hendersonville a few years ago! No bad food. Seriously. We have eaten pretty much everything on the menu. Hot & sour soup and wonton soup, crab Rangoon, potstickers for appetizer - all delicious! Shrimp lo mein, Kung pao shrimp, fried rice, hot pepper chicken, beef & broccoli - all delicious as are many more! We were excited to try China Cottage for the first time. Upon entering we were greeted with a smile and were soon seated at a table, even though the restaurant was quite busy. When our waitress came, she answered my menu questions and took our orders. I was happy to discover that they do serve their lunch menu on Sunday. We ordered General Tso's chicken, shrimp and mixed vegetables, egg drop soup, one spring roll, and an order of crab Rangoon. I have had some Chinese soups that I just didn't care for, but their egg drop soup had a good flavor and a silky texture. The crab Rangoon was a little on the sweet side, but we liked it. Both of our entrees were very good and we finished our plates very satisfied with our meals. I'm looking forward to visiting again soon. This is a great spot for Chinese food in the area. read more

Food was a 3 at best. Ordered online while sitting in their parking lot- ordering was easy and I was notified in 8 minutes that it was ready. Picked it up and got home 10 min later, so food was hot and fresh! Even so the breading was soggy as was the crab Rangoon. Ordered orange chicken and general Tso's chicken. They looked and tasted so much alike it was hard to tell them apart until I got a bit or orange peel. The sauce tasted like it was exactly the same and was very sweet even though I ordered medium spicy. The crab Rangoon had no crab flavor, fake or otherwise, and that filling was pretty sweet as well. We have frequented the other China Cottage location in Madison several times and have enjoyed our meals, so we were very excited to see that they had a new location in Hendersonville. We got a large takeout order last night and we enjoyed our meal overall! We tried 3 appetizers (steamed dumplings, potstickers, and crab rangoon) and they were tasty overall; the crab rangoon in particular had a lot of filling, which is much better than a lot of other local Chinese restaurants. We also had curry chicken, orange chicken, pork with garlic sauce, and broccoli with garlic sauce and they were all delicious; the pork with garlic sauce and orange chicken were particular good with a nice amount of heat, which was great to see as these tend to be a bit bland at other restaurants. The only dud in the meal was their wonton soup as it was made with bland chicken in the wonton and the broth really had no flavor. We all know prices are up and a 15 dollar lunch is unfortunately the norm, however, the quality and quantity of the China Cottage dishes is tremendous! This was one of the worst meals I've had. The girl at the front was very nice though, that was the 1 star. The Crab Rangoon's texture was like a sweet pudding, it made me nauseous I've never had any like that before. The fried rice didn't taste like anything and didn't have 1 piece of a vegetable in it. The General Tso chicken was mushy and seemed like it was just drenched in a pre made jar of sauce, nothing made fresh. I could've gotten better food at the mall! Better yet, I should've went to the location in Madison unless they've gone down too in the past couple years. For my first visit, I tried the orange chicken with fried rice and a spring roll. Flavor of the orange sauce was good but I'm giving 3 stars because the rice was bland, their were no vegetables in the orange chicken or fried rice, and the spring roll was overly greasy (so likely fried in oil that wasn't hot enough) lending to the oil flavor dominating the roll. read more

On Friday, February 7, I went online early morning before the China Cottage restaurant in Hendersonville, TN, opened, to place a pretty big order for four people who were meeting just a couple of miles from the location of the restaurant to enjoy some, what we believed would be, delicious Chinese food. I tried everything I could do to use the direct website order element, but it would be days later that I finally discovered that this element does not go live until the restaurant apparently opens. There are no explanations regarding this step on the website so you have to find this out for yourself. When I could get nothing to work, I went the other route that was offered by China Cottage to place an order...DoorDash. I chose pick up, checked my items on the order, chose the time for pickup to be between 5:30PM and 5:45PM, paid for it, and got my confirmation, which I printed to make sure I would not encounter any problems. At 5:25PM, I showed up at China Cottage, confirmation in hand, to pick up the food, only to be told by the female cashier at the front that a young lady had been in earlier and taken care of that for me. She said they had been surprised that she was so earlier, but they got it ready for her, anyway. I said that was impossible, that she had apparently stolen my order. The cashier said it had to be my daughter. I again said impossible because my daughter lives in upper state New York. I asked her what we could do about it, and she again said that the order had already been picked up. That was when a woman behind me said, "She's getting you another order. Get out of our way. You're holding up the line." I turned to the woman and asked, in an even voice, for her to stay out of this situation and let me walk with the cashier. In fact, I asked her multiple times because she was determined to control the narrative, A man behind the woman behind me said I was making a scene...looking ridiculous. I stupidly said that I was 73 years old, and I wanted to understand what the cashier meant about taking care of me, because nothing she did indicated an activity to make this right. He replied that he was 69 fucking years old, so don't pull that age card. I again asked the cashier what was being done and she finally said they were preparing food to fill my order, that I needed to go on over there and they would let me know when it was ready. I had no idea where over there was, so I asked where. She pointed to a table right in front of the cashier's station and I sat for what seemed about thirty to get my food. During that wait, a young ethnic guy came over to me and wanted to get me water and tea. He spoke broken English so I think he might haven been saying things that would placate me. He didn't need to do that because I was quietly waiting. When my order was finally ready, the cashier handed it to me and said several times that she was sorry. And I believe her. But that is not enough. I was a customer who was let down by the restaurant because no one came out to control what was happening when the bullies were shouting. While I seem to be aging somewhat naturally, what if I had been a person who suffered from Dementia? I could have been thrown into a trauma driven mental healthcare emergency by this mortifying situation. I realize it was a busy Friday night, but I was a customer alongside of all of them, trying to get my food order. And, sadly, just for the record: the food, while edible was not good. The sweet and sour chicken and shrimp pieces were breaded to the point where we had to pull it all off to simply eat the meat. I have been subjected to some bad stuff in eating establishments before, but nothing like this. read more
