So I'll admit I'm a bit of a Chinese food snob. I've actually been to China and the food there is amazing. What we call Chinese food in the US isn't anything close to the real thing. With that said I do occasionally like to have some orange or general Tso's chicken, an egg roll or two and maybe some crab rangoon. And that's exactly what we ordered in addition to some lemon chicken and special fried rice. This may have been the worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. The food was bland, crab rangoon tasted like saw dust and both those and the egg rolls were limp with no crisp at all and lukewarm. So I tried visiting Eating Thai but to my dismay, they are closed on Wednesdays. Needing an Asian food fix, I looked around and saw China Wok across the street. I drove over and decided to give it a shot after reading favorable reviews. I side was your typical hole-in-the-wall Chinese takeout. Faded menu, counter, few seats. But because of COVID, the owners took extra precautions and had a makeshift wooden barricade as if there was a zombie apocalypse. Plywood boards made a makeshift wall, compete with a plexiglass window, payment, and delivery boxes. I ordered the normal General Tso's with fried rice and hot and sour soup. I opted to dine in as well and it seemed others did too because the tables weren't very clean and the trash can was overflowing. Once I got my food, I opened the takeout containers and was greeted with a familiar smell. Sweet, tart, greasy General Tso's was making my mouth water. That's where the review stops being positive. The General Tso's had good flavor but it had too much batter used on the meat. There was more batter than actual meat. And of course, there was a hair in my General Tso's, which is always gross. The fried rice was your typical vegetable fried rice. Nothing to complain about there. The hot and sour soup, was not sour at all and was just salty soup. The worst Chinese food I have ever had. I got the chicken with Chinese vegetables and a small order of spare ribs. First and most of all the spare ribs were covered in barbecue sauce, which should have been a red flag. The reason that they were covered is because they were bad. Fast food chinese. That is the best way to describe this place. Most people do not eat in the restaurant, though there is seating and coffee/tea while you wait. They have a large menu, lots of options. You can call ahead of time as well so the order will be waiting for you. They are pretty quick, even with a line of people in front of you, if you stop in to order, you can usually be out the door in 15 minutes or so. Portions are large. Food tastes great. Ordered take out from here. I ordered boneless spare ribs and fried rice, my boyfriend got sesame chicken and lo mein. While the portion size is huge the taste of the food is pretty bland. My boneless spare ribs were burnt and black, the rice had no flavor whatsoever. My boyfriends food on the other hand is the only reason I decided to give 2 stars. The sesame chicken was pretty soggy but the flavor was pretty good. His lo mein was actually the star of everything even tho it was kind of cold. First off the guy who took our order at the counter had no personality and seemed bothered when my husband couldn't decide what he wanted. We did get our food fairly quickly and took it home. I don't know where to start. My egg roll tasted like dirty grease. I didn't eat the beef of my beef broccoli but my husband said it wasn't good. They burned the glaze so it was actually like jelly with no flavor on the broccoli. I also go white rice and it was mushy. I used 9 soy sauce packets and my white rice still tasted like white rice with no soy sauce. My husband got sweet and sour chicken. He didn't finish it. My favorite take out in Hendersonville. It reminds me of the small Chinese restaurants in my old neighborhood in NY. I always get their bone in ribs and pork fried rice. I love their wonton soup as well. My kids like the lo-mein and the hubby likes the general tso's chicken. I can do without their egg rolls. Call ahead and it'll be ready pretty quickly.
