Despite the previous businesses that were in this building (sushi restaurant, Mexican Seafood restaurant, Marijuana dispensary), the inside of China Fun is a bright and clean space. The food was American-style, of course, but it did satisfy our Chinese food cravings. Vegatables were fresh and crisp, and the proteins were well-trimmed and tasty. I would say that items like sesame chicken, orange chicken, and sweet and sour chicken will be thick on the sweet sauce. If you like things spicy, don't be afraid to ask for it that way. This is the second time we ordered from them and had a problem. The last time we ordered it took over 2 hours and the we had to cancel the order. We decided to give them another chance. Our food took over an hour. The driver said they had the meals waiting because they ran out of rice. When the food was delivered the only thing that was warm was the rice. We were concerned about food borne illness as the food was sitting out on the counter for nearly an hour and was not delivered at a safe temperature. The rice had a strong chemical smell as if it was prepared in a pot or cooker that wasn't rinsed properly. This used to be a great place for Chinese food but something has changed. read more

My family agreed that China Fun in Escondido was the best and most authentic Chinese food we've tasted in decades. We ordered from the lunch section and for the prices of the dishes, we were pleasantly surprised at the large, quality portions received. The service was superb with professional staff who checked on us. The ambiance was relaxing with comfortable seating and enough space between tables where it wasn't congested. TAKE OUT ORDER We were in the area and decided to take some food back home for takeout. When reviewing the menu, noticed there were no fish or lamb options. After placing our order we were told it would take around 15 minutes. Very inviting ambiance, well lit, clean and modern furniture, with contemporary background music in the background. Workers are bilingual and can speak Chinese and English. When some patrons finished and left, a worker was immediately in that area, cleaning up the area. Very quick service in the upkeep. They share the same lot as Jack in a Box, but they also had additional parking in the back of their restaurant. Took around 10-15 minutes to get back home. When taking our to go items out, they had put an extra bag around two of our orders in case the contents within spilled out. A small container of chili oil, soy sauce, and fortune cookies were packed. The food smelled amazing. We took to go: Dragon and Phoenix Special - flavorful and tasty Ginger Onion Beef - tasty Eggplant w/Tofu - was warned it was spicy. But tasted sweet to me with a slight kick. Food is plentiful, fresh, and tasty. I ordered shrimp chow mein, and my wife had beef chow mein. Both dishes arrived piping hot, which is exactly how it should be! Service was prompt and the food was served in a timely manner. On top of all that, prices were relatively low for what you got. So, no complaint there. But there were a couple of notable negatives. Although it was a cold evening, I actually had to return to my vehicle to retrieve my coat since it felt even colder inside the restaurant! Proper environmental control is just as important as food & service. The other issue concerned the hot tea. It wasn't all that hot. But worse, it was brewed with a tea bag which resulted in a very weak bland flavor. Serving tea this way in an oriental restaurant is akin to serving pasta made with canned sauce in an Italian restaurant. It simply is not done this way. Absent these easily preventable issues, I would have rated 4 stars without reservation. Nonetheless, China Fun is now on my list of "acceptable" dining establishments. read more

China Fun has been on my radar for a while....and I decided when my family came to visit, it was a good time to try a new place. My parents and I went for lunch on a Friday afternoon around 12:30. Easy to find, plenty of parking, dine in wasn't busy at all. The restaurant is spacious, servers are really nice (they check on you often...like really often!) and the food is on point. Bright and clean interior. My parents both ordered cashew chicken as their lunch and I ordered sesame chicken. Lunch portions are generous and I ended up taking some of mine home. Lunch options include an entree and then half rice (either white rice or fried rice)/half noodles. It's really a lot! I noticed they have dim sum on the menu. I'll definitely return to try that. Wow! What a wonderful meal! The portions were large. We both had shrimp and there were at least twice the number of shrimp that we usually are served. The vegetables are perfectly cooked. Our waitress was so sweet. Our food came quickly and we could see them cook it. I would definitely recommend coming to China Fun. First time here. Great service, clean restaurant. We started with a combo appetizer plate. Was served quickly. Best egg rolls I've had in a very long time! Next was hot and sour soup. What a large portion! It was delicious and filled with all kinds of ingredients including tofu, beautiful pieces of shrimp and Krab. I was surprised about the Krab and I didn't really like it in the soup. We also ordered sweet & sour chicken, orange chicken, combo chow mein and moo shu pork. Everything was delicious and nice sized portions. The only problem is that the entrees were served immediately after the soup. I would have really preferred that they gave us time to eat the soup or at least start eating the soup before they brought the rest of the food. Popped in for dinner with my husband because I saw they had dim sum items on their menu. I enjoyed the har gow that it satiated the craving I've had for a while. I will definitely come here if I'm not feeling the drive down to San Diego. The xiao long bao and custard buns were also good, custard buns are different since I'm use to baked custard buns and this is the first time I've had them steamed. My husband really liked the sesame chicken, plenty of sauce and the flavor he enjoyed significantly more than other places we have had this from. I had some questions about the menu which were easily clarified by the experienced staff. The food I ordered was two sets of orange chicken which comes with chow mein at an additional cost but it's more than enough food for a big dinner and some left overs. For a drink I ordered a Thai tea with boba. Overall the food was great, really fresh noodles with great taste and delicious orange chicken. The Thai tea was a perfect choice too, not too sweet, not too bitter. The place was extremely clean, lit, and very impressive. My only complaint is I did notice the place echoes and it was not busy as we were there an hour before closing but I expect a busy afternoon to be a potentially disturbing if you try to eat there and have a conversation!
