This is honestly the best and most authentic Chinese restaurant I've ever been to in the States and I'm Chinese myself so you need to believe in this. I don't even understand why people are giving them bad reviews... We were visiting Yellowstone last month and were looking for a Chinese restaurant there and decided to give this one a try. It was so good, to the point that we even came back another time when we were leaving Yellowstone. So yea we are there, TWICE!! Every time we had different dishes, veggies, pork, soup, all delicious and authentic. Honestly even better than the ones in LA where I live, and we all know LA has way more Chinese than West Yellowstone Montana so you would expect LA Chinese restaurants are more authentic right?? But you are wrong. This one is the best. I highly recommend everyone visiting Yellowstone NP who loves Chinese food give this restaurant a try and I personally will be back as well. read more

I've been in the West Yellowstone area since May and had seen the sign, but could never tell if they were a restaurant that had gone out of business or was still trying to setup. And it is on the far edge of town so may be missed by those not coming/going on 191. Regardless, I was happy to finally see that thy were actually remodeling and opened as a very attractive restaurant. West Yellowstone has two other establishments, Red Lotus (which I like) and Chinatown (which I wasn't impressed with). Now, from what I now understand China Fun is owned by the same as Chinatown, but I will not hold that against them. As a vegetarian, I was very impressed with the breadth of their offering. I could go back many more times and likely not get bored with the choices. I assume the menu is very authentic offering some meat dishes that are not found on typical menus, i.e. pig intestines. Hey...to each their own. I was surprised our food wasn't as piping hot as it could have been given that we were one of two tables around 3:30pm, but the food we were served was good. I think the prices were a bit high for meat dishes, thought he vegetarian dishes were reasonably priced. The portions were a bit undersized, but still a reasonable value for a tourist town that needs to make the majority of their income in a short amount of time. When we visited they were between two large Chinese tour groups- so the food is authentic. We had a great fragrant eggplant, tender cumin lamb and mixed seafood dish. Apparently one man's 1-star is my 5-star. It sounds like people are expecting Panda Express and being surprised when they find an actual Chinese restaurant. Who goes for Chinese food and orders a hamburger? WTF? And I dont recall seeing (undercooked) potatoes anywhere on the menu, maybe that reviewer just tried watercress for the first time? Would recommend if you've been to and enjoyed Chinese restaurants off the main tourist strips in any major city Chinatown. You can expect the usual: slightly dirty, "rude" staff by comparison, "weird" items on the menu, delicious food and mostly Chinese patrons. Anyway rant over. We had the elk, Peking lo mein, potstickers and egg flower soup. All were good, elk came out searing hot and perfectly cooked. A bit expensive but it's hard to get elk back home so worth it. We tried to return the lamb dish which was so salty that it was not eatable, then the server came back said oh I tasted the dish and it tasted ok. I really don't understand what he was expecting from us - suck it up and finish it? It's not often I feel disgusted with myself after eating at a restaurant, but this one sure made me regret even stepping foot in it. Food was terrible and overpriced. Beef noodle soup was preserved beef with soy sauce and hot water. Everything else was instant (canned crab meat). Only thing they didn't manage to mess up were the sugar snap peas. Even the rice was overcooked. Come on. First waiter didn't listen and asked us to repeat everything, then promptly went outside to smoke after taking our order, before heading to the kitchen. Gotta love efficient and prompt service. Second waiter visibly sighed when he was asked to bring water. Brought a bowl of noodles and refused to deliver them to the other side of the table to the person who actually ordered them. Then went back to ARMWRESTLING the other waiter on an empty table. Seriously. I guess he was saving his strength. Also saw two waiters drinking out of two glasses on the way to bringing them to the table whilst on my way to the bathroom. Finally when I complained, I was completely dismissed, with both waiters pretending they did not speak English. When I spoke in Chinese to them they told me I was lying. I really wanted to rate this place highly because it seemed authentic. However our experience quickly plummeted when we realized there was no soap in the bathroom. We asked for soap and they said there is none. My brother insisted on washing his hands as we had been hiking and was able to use the soap in the kitchen which was basically water. This is shockingly unhygienic, unacceptable, and something I have never seen in a restaurant before. We had to ask for everything basic like napkins and water. It was difficult to get the attention of the servers. Food was served quickly and all items at once including my tea. I felt a bit bad that the Asian customers were all visited by the owner. Perhaps he does not speak English, but I would have appreciated at least basic service. The food was average. If you're looking for a Happy Meal, Micky D's is right down the road. (It was the positive review by native Chinese reviewer that swayed me). I'm glad I did! This place is aptly named "China Fun", because it was easy to feel like I was in China! Both times, we were the only Caucasians there. The place was packed with Chinese tour groups who obviously had prearranged menus. The food they were eating appeared authentic. Lots of vegetables and sea food, and some things I didn't recognize. (Perhaps the stir-fried pig intestines listed on the menu?). The typical Chinese-American items (breaded, deep fried meat in sweet sauces, and stir fried dishes) are also on the menu (we ordered some of them and they were all good) but the Chinese guests weren't eating anything like that. In spite of the chaos (large groups of happy Chinese tourist aren't quiet) our order came quickly. I enjoyed watching a large Chinese family eat together. It gave a whole new meaning to "family style". The youngest son dutifully filled the small bowels provided on each table with sticky rice and passed them to his family members. (There were no dinner plates in sight). Each family member reached deftly with their long chop sticks and grabbed bites from any of the five entrée platters on the table. It was quite a sight, chopsticks flying everywhere in a graceful dance, with no collisions. Occasionally they brought the bowl of rice to their mouths to shovel it in with their chopsticks. All were drinking tea from small cups, there was no ice water in sight. The Chinese-American food was all good, probably 4 star. Based on the popularity of the authentic food, it is probably even better. Nevertheless, we received quick service and exceptional food. Living in Southern California, we have had a lot of authentic and delicious Chinese food. China Fun knocked it out of the park with the dishes and if we were staying longer, we likely would have returned.
