Update: Health Score was 65 out of 100 as verified by the Health Dept! While staying at West Yellowstone, it was disgraceful that this local Chinese restaurant refused to accommodate us with our service dog, blatantly ignoring basic disability rights and common decency. Their discriminatory policy isn't just illegal--it's a shameful display of ignorance and hostility that has no place in any community establishment. I am really surprised to find it in such a small community such as West Yellowstone... even after talking to the restaurant manager Liv Liu. The service was prompt. The food was tasty! It is a little bit older of a building but the food was wonderful! Will definitely come back! Just be sure to watch they add gratuity to dine in customers.

Steamed trout (market price-$70 for our party), vegetables

I am surprised by all the 1-star reviews because my family and I enjoyed a nice dinner here without any issues. The staff went above and beyond with their kindness (checking in on us many times) and were accommodating to our requests (less salt in the dishes). They were even open to customizing some of the dishes to our liking (ex. we ordered a custom mixed vegetable dish because there was one vegan in the party). We tried the steamed trout (market price; was $70 for us) which was enough for 2 people to share. My parents seemed to enjoy it and finished it completely. Overall, the food tasted great and was made reasonably quickly (about 15 minutes), and service was impeccable. A few other things to note--someone started smoking toward the end of the visit, so it started to smell like smoke. The price is also up there, and tip is automatically added to the receipt.

The food is reasonably priced. Automatic 15% tip. The service in the summer was okay. They were really busy so they were not able to get us water refills or the other table forks. There must be a tour associated with this place because it was so full. I didn't get to use the bathroom because it was so busy and I got overwhelmed. Food was good, hot and quick. I think maybe spoiled in sf with really good Chinese food. But it was a nice change from camping food in Yellowstone to get Chinese food in a semi remote area. They take card but warning dinner service is busy.

If you want good Chinese food, go eat where the Chinese people are eating! They were friendly and polite and the food was SO GOOD! The food was so delicious we forgot to even take pictures. If you like Chinese you'll love this place!

    Shrimp and General Tso Chicken

This place is alright. I went on a family trip to the Northwest states in 2017 through one of those Chinese tour groups and I remember this was the first restaurant of that trip. The restaurant was a bit small and was quickly packed especially with so many tourists dining in at once. This wasn't an issue for us in particular since (I'm assuming) the tour agency reserved out seats for us in advance. The service was not bad from my experience (our orders came out quickly, maybe about 10 minutes) and the food tasted okay... Just too salty. I ordered the shrimp and General Tso chicken - they were good and cooked well from what I remember. The fish was very salty. Seeing how the tour group seems to come here as part of their usual schedule (tour lead talked about coming here many times in his previous trips), the prices for this restaurant is a bit ridiculous. $2 for a teabag and need to pay for the bowl of rice. 5.5/10

Kung Pao Chicken, only 3/4 full

I ordered spring rolls, small egg drop soup, Kung Pao chicken (I ordered no onions and added cabbage) and white Rice. Order totaled $28. The spring rolls were very tiny and had a disgusting taste. Egg drop soup came in a small dish and lacked any flavor. Now the main course was Kung Pao Chicken, it had an okay flavor but not as good as I am used to. If you want rice you have to order it separately. Probably wouldn't go back.

I came in for dinner with my parents on July 22. I ordered sprite. There was one dishes I really enjoy from this place. The food was okay and good but it wasn't as delicious as I expected to be. The service was okay. The ambiance was a quiet but not as loud.

The food is way better than the 2 stars rating in yelp, just a little bit expense even compare to California Bay Area.

Sautéed Pork Stomach with Pickled Vegetables 酸菜炒豬肚: A very typical Hakka dish, everything was authentic except for the lack of a mild spiciness. The pickles was crisp, with just the right amount of sourness; the pork stomach had no gamey smell and was stir-fried until crisp and tender; the sauce was evenly coated on the ingredients, showing skill. The red and green peppers were basically just for color. Poach Fish Fillet水煮魚: A completely inauthentic and Cantonese version of shuizhuyu (poach fish fillet), which displeased my friend who is originally from Sichuan. But personally, I thought the fish was very tender and quite fragrant! Both dishes were very good with rice; I had to ask for more. However, it must be pointed out that the fees at this restaurant are not very clear. Taxes and the 15% tip are calculated manually, and there is no electronic bill. Those who mind this should think twice before going.

Very disappointing experience at Red Lotus in West Yellowstone…read more The restaurant automatically adds a 15% gratuity to every bill, regardless of party size, and then charges another 3% if you pay by credit card. I have traveled to 43 states in the U.S. and eaten at countless restaurants. I honestly cannot remember another restaurant that imposed both a mandatory gratuity on every customer regardless of party size and a fee on credit card usage. To me, this feels like a business designed around one time tourist traffic rather than earning repeat customers. I spoke directly with the owner, Mr. Chen, about the mandatory gratuity. His first explanation was that some customers do not leave tips. But if certain customers choose not to tip, whether because they are unhappy with the service or for any other reason, why should every other customer be forced to make up for that? He then explained that the gratuity helps him pay his employees. But employee compensation is fundamentally part of the cost of operating a restaurant. If additional revenue is necessary to cover labor costs, then price the menu accordingly instead of calling a mandatory charge a "gratuity." To be clear, I have no problem tipping, and I am perfectly willing to leave a proper tip for good service. My objection is to making a gratuity mandatory for every customer and then offering explanations that, in my view, simply do not make sense. Perhaps a restaurant like this one in a major tourist destination like West Yellowstone does not depend heavily on repeat customers. That may work for their business. But travelers deserve to know about these charges and decide for themselves before dining here.
