Unexpectedly, I found a taste of home near Yellowstone National Park! Don't get too excited when you hear the owner speak Cantonese... Sautéed Pork Stomach with Pickled Vegetables 酸菜炒豬肚: A very typical Hakka dish, everything was authentic except for the lack of a mild spiciness. The pickles was crisp, with just the right amount of sourness; the pork stomach had no gamey smell and was stir-fried until crisp and tender; the sauce was evenly coated on the ingredients, showing skill. The red and green peppers were basically just for color. Poach Fish Fillet水煮魚: A completely inauthentic and Cantonese version of shuizhuyu (poach fish fillet), which displeased my friend who is originally from Sichuan. But personally, I thought the fish was very tender and quite fragrant! Both dishes were very good with rice; I had to ask for more. However, it must be pointed out that the fees at this restaurant are not very clear. Taxes and the 15% tip are calculated manually, and there is no electronic bill. The food was good, everything else... not the best, service was bad when we arrived we requested ice water and hot water, they only gave us hot water, and never the ice water. the entire serving is ran by a single older man who was forced to run around the restaurant taking peoples orders. But the biggest issue with me was how the tipping worked, they put in a automatic 15% so they don't have to be polite when serving, and they don't tell you about the tip being included. Prices were also quite bad as for 6 dishes it costed 190 dollars which would've been 225 if we hadn't noticed the tip was included by reading online reviews. I'm from Los Angeles and I must say that this is the best Chinese food I have ever had! I love the lights inside and the service was so great! the food came out so quickly and it was piping hot! Avoid if you are vegetarian, Cook mixed chicken in the veg items and owner's daughter who wears glasses, was very rude and we felt like insulted us when we told her. after a bit second daughter who does not wear glasses came for check, we told her we already paid. There are not many food options in that seasonal city. They brought bill in Mandarin, we used google to decipher it. Google AI showed us that they have put a 15% service charge. So did not pay tip. If it were possible to give zero stars, I would gladly give this restaurant a zero. I have lived in the United States for more than ten years and have dined at hundreds of Chinese and non-Chinese restaurants. This restaurant ranks among the worst dining experiences I have ever had. From the front desk staff, to the servers, to the owner, there seemed to be an attitude of hiding information whenever possible and charging extra whenever possible. It was extremely disappointing and does a disservice to Chinese cuisine. The main reasons are as follows: **1. Lack of pricing transparency and poor communication** When we placed our order, the server initially overcharged us. The mistake was corrected only after I pointed it out. However, after the correction, the total was manually recalculated and was still off by one dollar. Since the amount was small, I chose not to argue further in the interest of keeping the situation pleasant. What was more concerning was that, during payment, an additional fee was charged on a bill over $100. The cashier never mentioned this fee beforehand, nor was there any explanation afterward. I only learned about it after checking my bank transaction and asking directly. Even more disappointing was the owner's response when I tried to discuss the issues. Rather than addressing the question, he was dismissive, argumentative, and unwilling to engage in even a brief, straightforward conversation. As a customer, I believe any additional fees should be clearly disclosed before payment, not discovered afterward. **2. No proper itemized receipt provided** At checkout, the restaurant did not proactively provide an itemized bill or detailed receipt. When I asked about it, the owner responded that "many restaurants in the United States do the same thing, including restaurants nearby." In my opinion, regardless of industry practices, customers have the right to understand exactly what they are being charged for and how the total is calculated. **3. Questionable customer service priorities** The cashier seemed unwilling to spend even a few seconds explaining the charges to customers. Communication with paying customers appeared to be a very low priority. **4. Average food with small portions** The food was average at best, with no particularly memorable dishes. More importantly, the portion sizes were noticeably small relative to the prices charged, making the overall value poor. Overall, what disappointed me was not the extra dollar or the service fee itself. It was the lack of transparency, the lack of communication, and the apparent disregard for customer concerns throughout the entire experience. We are here in Montana visited Yellowstone National Park. Lunch time so we found this Chinese restaurant. The place is nice. Decor is colorful lotus lights. We were greeted and seated right away. Ice water has been served quickly. We ordered their lunch special and price was reasonable. The service was fast. I ordered Moo Goo beef which was very delicious. The beef is tender and fresh vegetables . The serving plate was big . I was very satisfied. My husband got the Mongolian beef and he was pleased. Very delicious and tender . I've eaten twice here now, and this can definitely be a hit or miss kind of place. The cashew chicken was really good a little skimpy on the chicken. As you can see, it was primarily vegetables. The second time that I went back, I ordered the crab Rangoon and the cashew chicken once more and unfortunately, there were even more bell peppers and less chicken the second time that I went. The food is decent just very skimpy for the prices. Out of all the places in West Yellowstone it typically does have better quality for Chinese food. They all answered and said they would be open later for whatever reason. This is a vacation town with only a short window for business. These guys were ready for mine. Alright--Let me be honest. This place served real Chinese food, and the Americanized standard. When we walked in we were one of the few families of American descent and it seemed to play against us. We seemed largely ignored, but in all fairness we were a small party compared to several others. The food was, okay, nothing special especially if you've ever had Chinese food before. It wasn't terrible, just not special. This was probably the only Chinese restaurant I've been to where my glass of water seemed to remain empty. Red Lotus is an Asian restaurant close to the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park. There's free parking in the lot behind the place and there's plenty of seating for big groups or a family inside. The service is good and the food comes out quick. However, the food itself tastes terrible and none of the entrees come with rice. Additionally, everything is very expensive for the portion size and it doesn't feel very hygienic inside. The orange chicken tasted like it was made with fanta and breaded separately from the chicken. The kung pao chicken was too sweet and the chicken fried rice was very bland. Asparagus prawns executed very well! Cooked correctly. Seated immediately at 7:30pm with an almost full house. Ordering a few minutes later. Food delivered within 10 mins. It was supposed to be crispy noodles but I don't know what noodles those are but they were not what I expected for crispy noodles. For $24, that plate was a disappointment. We got hot tea, the menu says $1.50 but it's $1.50 per person which is not how it was stated on the menu. Partially my fault for ordering sweet and sour chicken as it can be so hit or miss. We also ordered kung pao chicken and vegetable lo mein. It was all gross. The sweet and sour chicken came only with a very thick goopy sauce. No pineapple or green pepper. It was not great. I'm asked for hot sauce and for rice vinegar (wanted to cut the sweetness / viscosity ) the server said they didn't have any vinegar. How can this be ?!? Hot sauce was ok. The lo mein was boring and had few vegetables. Finally the kung pao chicken which was marked as "spicy" was not. Not a single chile pepper in it. The pieces of chicken in it were minuscule. First night we were there, we ordered the bison and sautéed elk from the chef special section. They were good! Juicy and tender, especially the bison dish. Portion was good too. Just didn't expect 2 dishes and a bowl of rice costed over USD$130. So second time we were there, we just ordered items from regular section. The beef with scallion was actually very juicy and tender too. Price was more reasonable. But the beef noodle and a dish of green beans were just ok (we don't recommend). The beef not tender and the green beans were old, tough to chew. There's only so much bbq, pizza, and burgers one can eat. I'm Chinese and from Los Angeles and feel this place hit the spot. It's a bit pricey but servers were attentive, restaurant was clean and pleasant, and the reality is there are limited Chinese options in this small tourist town. If you want to try something different that's not normally on a Chinese menu, they have bison and elk. When I asked between the two which to order, the restaurant recommended the bison because it's less gamey. The bison dish is like your normal broccoli and beef dish but the meat is way more tender. We also ordered the steamed trout, which was flavorful and flaky. You have to pay for the rice but it's good value because it's a very full round bowl of rice. In summary, I'd bring my immigrant parents here if they wanted Chinese in West Yellowstone. read more

My friends happened to pick this Chinese restaurant. Due to its 3/5 star rating on Yelp we were a bit doubtful but decided to take a chance on it anyway. The restaurant was quite busy but they were able to seat our larger party of 6 quickly. Because of the low Yelp star rating we came with low expectations. But boy, were we surprised. The food was delicious! We hungrily devoured our selection of Chinese garlic eggplant, orange chicken, fried rice, and Mongolian beef. We also each ordered a cup chicken soup which was quite good. They also provided a bowl of white rice which is a must! Most of our party were Asian - full disclosure we are Asian American - so perhaps our tastes in Chinese food may be skewed but I will speak for my taste and I would rate the food quite high in terms of what I personally enjoy. The chicken was tasteful. The eggplant cooked just right and the Mongolian beef was tender. We also observed many Chinese tourists in the restaurant so this may reaffirm that the food is acceptable by their standards. Service was good. The food came out quickly and was hot. They did make a couple of mistakes on our order but quickly corrected their errors without complaint. The noise level was average and most parties there were large 6-8 people per table. I think that the round tables would have benefitted from a lazy Susan to make the food more easily accessible but we made things work by passing the food around. All in all it was well worth our time and money. In fact, we came back the next day to enjoy the food again as takeout. This place may appear humble on the outside but is definitely worth a pit stop especially, if you enjoy Chinese food. I am rating this a 5/5 to help their rating. During our recent visit to Yellowstone, we were craving any different cuisine after days of hotdogs, burgers /fries and pizzas. Though we were a little apprehensive seeing a number of poor reviews, we decided to try Red Lotus given the lack of options and glowing reviews from customers familiar with the cuisine. We made reservations in advance as we were a large group and were promptly seated upon arrival. We tried a number of dishes and all the dishes were authentic and delicious! We kicked off with the Hot and Sour soup and the Supreme Corn soup - both excellent. The kids enjoyed the Honey Walnut Shrimp. We also tried the Pepper Salt chicken wings, Mongolian beef, Szechuan Chicken, both House Special and Vegetable Fried rice and Hot Tea. My favorite was the Eggplant with Spicy Garlic Sauce. The only thing that remotely disappointed was the lo-mein. Service was very attentive and courteous. A number of reviews had complained about the automatic 15% gratuity added to the bill but this was clearly mentioned in the menu. Inside the heart of West Yellowstone, there lies the Red Lotus... This is one of the only Chinese restaurants in the area; it's very cozy and peaceful inside. The food came out very quickly (around 10 minutes) and was very authentic. The House Special Fried Rice and Honey Walnut Shrimp were so delicious and definitely my favorites. However, the food was pretty pricy costing us $110 for four dishes. On the other hand, the owner was very kind and knowledgeable about the nearby Yellowstone National Park, he helped us navigate and gave us very useful information. Terrific service, delicious food, definitely recommend if you're craving Chinese food in Yellowstone! We had the egg rolls and a cup of hot and sour soup for appetizers, and both were piping hot and full of flavor. The soup had a nice amount of spicy heat to it, too! And for mains, we had the ma po tofu (silken tofu with pork and oh so tasty!), which came with a great portion of white rice, and the red lotus beef, which was pounded, breaded, and fried: what more could you want?
