This place took over for the Sea Harbor. They have got a new paint job and put up lots of new decorations! Much better than before. This has become my new favorite Chinese restaurant in Monterey. Everything on the menu is very fresh and tasty. The service is always welcoming and quick. They treat every customer like you are family. The food is actually better than before. The soup, rice and chow mien portions are huge. Everything I have had is very good. The prices are not bad. Locals discount always helps. Lunch specials are always awesome!! The food was great fresh and hot very short wait time. They included everything in my order that i needed even paper plates. Plenty of soy sauce. The black pepper beef was good as well as the chicken chow main and pot stickers. It was a short walk from our hotel and a very nice day to go and get some Chinese food. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE BILL!!! They don't tell you they add a surcharge and it is written no where in the restaurant or expressed to you during check out. Also they try to add items to the bill, so CHECK carefully. And when they add the surcharge/tip for any bill, they add it including the tax, I don't think that is legal. The egg drop is gross watery and no flavor with slimy eggs. The sesame chicken is ok and a heavy taste of soy sauce. Rice is extra so don't assume that you'll get it. I will not order here again. UPDATE: Our last night in Monterey and my hubby and I decided on going back to our all time favourite spot we found this week! Not only were we once again greeted so enthusiastically and kindly, they remembered us, our trip info we had talked about at our last dine in there and recalled when we were coming back to the area for my husband's work! Color me super impressed! This place is so personable and really does make the effort and then 100 times more to get to know their customers and ensure a fabulous dining experience. This time we tried some different plates and just like the last time, we were not disappointed! That being said it is easy to state the star dish of the evening and I would behoove to say the dish of the restaurant: the handmade Chinese dumplings. Holy shiitake mushrooms these were absolutely phenomenal and delicious! They were hand made by the waitresse's father and are tiny little bites of cloud stuffed with a savory blend of meat and spices that balance one another so perfectly, it is hard to jusy say, "well, I'll only have a few". If you want to kick it up a notch to be even more kick ass, ask for their house made chili sauce which is a special chili oil sauce made by the waitresse's uncle. This place is all family run and owned and the love and passion for the food and their business comes across in every way from the food to the service. I highly recommend to anyone looking for amazing Chinese food that is affordable and so delicious to go here! read more

Bad, Bad, Bad, Never, Never, Never would I go back to this place. The lady who served us had no respect for us. We were one of the only two tables in the restaurant and she ignored our presence for more than 15 minutes while talking ebulliently with the guests on the other table. And finally when she reluctantly came to take our orders, she questioned our knowledges on chinese food items (we are chinese, we speak and eat chinese food since our birth). When it was time for us to pack the leftovers to go, we requested a paper togo carton since we anticipated for reheating of the food in the microwave. She questioned why we wanted paper togo carton and insisted that the plastic box that she gave us was good enough. She walked away and never came back with the paper carton that we requested. She even suggested various restaurants (non-paid advertising) and things to do while the food was cooking. The dad, so cool, and her cousin were at the front of house when I walked in. I absolutely love everything about this restaurant. From the beautiful decor on the inside to the friendly and speedy service. A special story I'd like to share is when i pulled up to eat lunch and i just happen to pull up a minute later than a large bus filled with tourist (not from America) and i sat down and the sweet server came up to me first and took my order before the late group ensuring i was taking care of first. Staff was very friendly and accommodating even with our loud toddler. The food was absolutely delicious. We left with some leftovers and I can't stop thinking about eating tomorrow for lunch haha. Terrible food..your common "American-Chinese" food at an exorbitant price. Curry beef was greasy, lacking any flavor whatsoever with few pieces of beef in a mass of onions and green pepper. We paid $58+18% tip (total $69) for one crab cream puff appetizer with mostly cream cheese, honey walnut chicken-the only dish that was okay (but still too pricey for what we got), rice ($1.75), an iced t, and a can of Diet Coke. Anything down the street on Alvarado St would be money better spent and probably less money at that. read more

My friend and I had lunch here and it had such great energy and the waitress is so positive and friendly! As we sat there it was amazing how she knew every customer that came in. Please save you money! I paid $45 for something I was not happy with. I went there on my lunch time with my coworker. It was our first time there, we order chicken chow mein, shrimp fried rice, Mongolian beef. The chow mein was NOT cooked at all and no flavor at all. Still hard but because we were in a hurry we left it there. There fried rice was blah no flavor! The Mongolian beef was nasty to it seemed they just threw a bunch of saracha sauce on top and there .. there's your Mongolian beef!
