Came here after a long day at Monterey. My daughter was craving for some noodle soup and when that first spot ended up being a complete bust, I was blessed enough to turn the corner and stumble across Lee's Garden Restaurant. While the restaurant seemed bare when it came down to actual customers dining in, the flow of traffic for take out was busy. Not wanting to deal with any leftovers, our family of 3 decided on 3 items: Fresh Mushroom Beef Combination Fried Rice Sautéed String Beans [no spice] The food came out fairly quick and was 100% made to order. My little one had no choice but to be patient while we waited for her food to cool down. The rice was okay- the blandness was a bit much for my tastebuds. The fresh mushroom beef was great- cuts of beef were tender, the mushrooms were generous, and the flavors were well balanced. The green beans were tender and so very flavorful. These two dishes really helped with the fried rice. 4 stars. Lee's Garden Restaurant was just what we needed after a very long and eventful day. read more

Clean restaurant, was seated right away, and had decent service. I've had a few black bean noodles around San Jose, and this is actually the best one I've had in terms of flavor. Adding chili sauce (the one in the jar) really elavated the taste. I appreciate the noodles and sauce coming separately because I was able to bring the sauce home and have a second meal over rice. Despite that, I can see someone finding the portion rather small if they ordered this during dinner time. read more

This place is a bit hard to review. The ambiance is classic American-based Chinese restaurant. There's plenty of Chinese looking decor. The staff was nice and attentive but that may have been due to that at the time we were the only people there. The food is a bit harder to review as it didn't seem very Chinese. We received main dishes that had good ingredients but they weren't very "Chinese restaurant style" in presentation. My main dish was more a fusion of Chinese and some other style - Korean(?). There are regulars who came in for carry out so there's something but if you're looking for traditional Chinese food this may not be it. read more

Service was great but food took longer to come out as more customers came in. Ambiance of the setting more for family style. Noise level is a little louder. Well..... My family and I would frequent this place on special occasions. We loved their seafood black bean noodles, spicy chicken wings, seafood noodle soup and many other dishes. I was so disappointed tonight with the quality. The seafood in the black bean noodles smelled bad and the tasted old. The chicken wings were out of a bag that was pre battered way in advance. The taste was definitely off. My mom had the Mongolian beef which I think was pork? Flavorless and the meat seemed old. The poor quality was very evident. On my way out, I kindly told the lady my thoughts and she basically told me they've never had complaints. Hmmmmm.... Ok. She was nice about it but I'm sure she knows what she's really serving. Only reason why this place gets three stars is because of the service and for a few dishes. I get the salt pepper pork and it's fine and dandy but my uncle ordered curry shrimp and NONE of us went back for a second bite. Would 150% not recommend that. The salt pepper pork and mandarin chicken I would recommend. This place was beyond fantastic with the previous owner but since the change a few years back, it hasn't been the same. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I came here about a month ago after golfing with my friends, as we usually do, but this time was the last. I had a couple eggrolls and wonton soup, and a few hours later, I was seriously sick. (Not the first time this place got me sick, my friend pressured us to go which was obviously a mistake). On top of that, the plates were dirty - the bottoms were sticky with a strange brownish-orange sauce, which was disgusting. The owner was rude, which we honestly expected due to her demeanor in our previous visits. She usually answers our questions like some drill sergeant. But this time was the last straw, she made faces at us behind her counter and started talking about us like we wouldn't notice. My friends all mentioned how uncomfortable she made them feel, and we're definitely not coming back. Obviously we come for the food not the service. But this time the food was even worse than the service which is really saying something. I'm telling everyone I know to stay far away from this place. It's just not worth it. Every single food item is extremely greasy. Plus, who knows how unsanitary it is behind that kitchen. read more

We haven't been to Lee's Garden for many years since they've changed hands. We decided to give them a try again with a couple of lunch specials. At 12.99 each, the portions were good. The sweet and sour shrimp was excellent. My son said the broccoli beef was good. Their veggie Chow mein was very flavorful. The egg drop soup and rice were a little different and wouldn't get those again. But we'll come back and try some things from their dinner menu. read more

Tried the lunch special here! Wasn't really craving Chinese but I wanted to support this business! It was 8.73 (12 after tax and tip). I believe this lunch special was from 11:30-2:30. I got white rice and stir fried veggies! Not bad for the amount of food. Sadly no soup is available for takeout. I was craving Chinese food so I knew I had to go to Lee's to pick some up. This is my childhood restaurant and they been around for a very long time. The service and food was great. I ordered: combo chowmein, combo fried rice, mandarin chicken (a must try at Lee's), walnut shrimp, vegetable stir fried, and salt & pepper pork ribs. The food came out hot and fresh to enjoy. Parking/Price: lots of parking in front and on the side. Their price was great for the portion it came with. I ordered a total of 6 dishes and including tax was around $80. A friend and I were at Lee's three days ago. I'd had their food before and thought it was pretty good, but this time was anything but. A long wait to be seated, another long wait for someone to take our order...and it's not as though they were busy, only a few tables were occupied. (I guess that should've been my clue - it was lunchtime.) The food came pretty quickly, but that's the best I can say about it. The flavors weren't very interesting - fairly bland overall. And the amount of oil in almost every dish was truly shocking; even the fried rice needed to be drained. On the plus side, they did remember extra lemon for my water. As far as food delivery, I've never been disappointed with the exception of one time getting fried rice that seemed to be bad. It was like having a second or third date after being "away" for maybe a decade? It was like the first time was so bad that you didn't think it was possible again BUT time creates an itch that you need scratched again and for some reason, in the moment, you find options limited and you *just* can't help yourself and call her again. Yeah, it's that kind of thing with Lee's Garden and I. It was that bad the first time (like if I reviewed then, it would a rancid rant) that I have avoided this establishment since. Eventual new management and such wasn't enough to lure me back in then BUT that specific moment came where I found myself unable to help myself and give this place another look. The previous snail pace was gone and the service far more attentive. These two I care less about but had to be mentioned because I can't name another time where I had to wait almost 40 minutes at a "Chinese" restaurant for a single item to show. (Note: good Chinese cooks set a really good example on speed because they work with fire not known to regular kitchens). Yes, it has changed since. There was attention and there was a decent pace on delivery of food even when the dining room was full. A world apart from my last experience. But as always, it's about the food. And since it's a "Chinese" place, it is far more about the food than anything else. It's Chinese right? Who gives a toot about service and such? "You here to eat, so EAT and get out so I can seat the next person who is here to EAT!" So here's the part that bothers me: why are your sides cold? (Duh, I know why and it's rhetoric). I applaud your prep and mise en place. I applaud the major leap in speed and delivery. BUT if my lunch shows up with the main ingredient being the only one *hot* and the others close to being colder than room temp, I have an issue with that. It's not the "danger zone" I care about (iron stomach here). I have an issue with the simple fact that as Chinese culinary foodies would say...everything had to be *HOT*.
