Fond memories of the Great Wall Chinese restaurant. I worked next door in the Pacific Bell business office as a Service Representative. I remember many business lunch meetings "brainstorming" strategies with my team manager Erin Miller. "Show Me The Money" was our team motto for the office. I appreciate the sales & marketing skills invested into our team building. I still recognize many of the staff including James. I enjoy being in the presence of awesome family and friends that serve the community with authenticity & well presented cuisines. I highly recommend Great Wall for your business meetings or the whole family outing for five star yummy goodness.

We went to try this place. The place reminds you of a Chinese restaurant from the 1970s. We tried the shrimp chow mein and potstickers. The potstickers were a little bit bland, and there was nothing remarkable about the food. Our waiter was a nice guy.

I came here around 7 p.m. on a Sunday, and we were able to get seated quickly. We ordered the spring rolls, savory glazed tofu, and the chow mein, all of which were super yummy. The portion sizes were decent, and the prices were pretty good. I would definitely recommend this place for any vegetarians, as they had plenty of vegetarian options available!

Even though it got a little mushy, my favorite dish was Singapore rice noodles because the beef had a mild heat/spice. Good use of five spice seasoning here. I ordered BBQ pork buns and chicken fried rice (underseasoned) for takeaway, but we went to a different restaurant by mistake. Kung pao beef, Mongolian beef, and shrimp shumai were ready in 20 minutes. This business was good with communication, calling back if the call was dropped and confirming that we were coming to get it before closing.

The most bland Chinese food I've ever tasted. No flavor at all. Just oil and vegetables. They don't give much meat either. Avoid.

Good service, food was good . The price seemed a little bit high for the quality of food that I got, but it was good.

Easy take out process, standard Chinese takeout. Would order again. Much better than China Garden down the street.

This place was a real surprise to me. I followed directions…read moreand it took me to a little patio tucked away next to a bank - there was an open door to a kitchen and the patio had two plastic tables and chairs. A waitress noticed me quickly and came to ask if had placed an order or needed to. They have a big menu! The lunch specials are amazing deals - a main course, with chow mein, fried rice, and soup! All for less than $15?! In this economy?? So I ordered the cashew chicken and a starter of cheese puffs (wanton). The food was all flavorful, the chow mein had a deliciously satisfying chew, the cheese puffs had a tangy cream cheese filling. I would say there wasn't an abundance of chicken - but there was a lot of other food to make up for it. Oh and complimentary hot green tea! I will definitely come back again!

The lunch specials are pretty good and reasonably priced, especially for this area. There were only two servers working: a younger woman handling cleanup and table setup, and a senior woman taking orders and serving food. The workflow felt a bit unorganized -- it would be smoother if they backed each other up. Overall, the lunch specials were solid and a good value here.

This is more about attitude than food. The food is actually my favorite but the problem is…read moreconsistency. My favorite restaurant was the Jacks Bao in Aptos. It opened, closed abruptly and then closed again after having very spotty service. I would often call the Monterey Jacks to see what was going on with the Aptos store. Despite it being the same business, the staff at both were always put off by my genuine questions. Especially given that I LOVE thier food and have written very positive reviews. When I called to find out why the Aptos location closed again without notice, it was like I was majorly inconveniencing them. Maybe, thank you for your loyalty. I literally ate their food at least 4 times a week. And I will go to the Monterey store to get those little dumplings I love so much. But maybe instead of treating customers like their love of your food is an inconvenience, have some skills at turning the experience to a win. So I ask here, why did Jacks Aptos shut down again?

I'm happy to say that now there is a decent asian place that we can drop by if we have a craving or if we are bringing overseas friends to the aquarium. Very clean interiors, you seat yourself and order at the counter. We had the beef noodle soup, veggie noodle soup, and the XLB. The beef noodle soup was mostly soy sauce based, not too salty, just the right amount of savoring. The meat was not beef shank, but a leaner cut with less connective tissue so don't expect any chewy tendons. And the noodles were cooked with just the right chew. XLB was only okay. Not terrible but not something I would order again. Overall decent, and for Monterey standards definitely a 4 out of 5. Obviously cannot compare to beef noodle shops in the south bay, but this will do if you are spending a day touring the local area and have the craving for noodle soup. No free water here by the way, you'll have to buy a bottle of water at the front counter so plan accordingly.
