I really believe first impressions are everything... like you literally cannot get a second chance to make it first impression. I say all of that to say this... I called this place because I wanted to order some food. The guy places me on hold and just leaves me there. I the proceeded to drive to the restaurant.. although there is a very dirty open sign the restaurant looks quite decrepit I don't know what's happening here. It did not Smell of Chinese food.. like delectable things being cooked in the back but you know what I could smell oldness. I order $20 worth of food it was ready in about eight minutes not sure how I feel about that. So the food was OK I could taste that they use old grease but the flavors were there. Omg!!!! Today was my first visit and I ordered almond chicken that was old, dried out and refried. The rice was ok. Bit I was disappointed that they had the audacity to serve chicken that should've clearly been thrown in the garbage. I am so tired of the disrespect in our predominantly African American neighborhoods thinking this is not a problem. I won't ever eat anything from your establishment again. Great service. We ordered takeout and were delayed picking it up. They messaged me to let me know our food was ready which was very kind. Portions were huge, IMO. And prices were very reasonable. The restaurant was empty but the host said they only re-opened the dining area a few days ago. Also, they are under new management as of a few months ago. I had Szechuan combo with shrimp, chicken and beef. I asked for extra spicy. It was very good with lots of protein and veggies. I also had hot and sour soup. Very good. Ordered a general tso and the rainbow shrimp, Was told 20 mins. Waited an extra 5 even and when I had walked in everybody's sitting around like its a mf doctors office waiting room, while an elderly couple casually dines a few feet away from me. Everybody in the kitchen nobody out from to greet or cash anybody out. Definitely a sight for sore eyes. The fried rice that comes with the combination entree was hard which means it's old, and the chicken was barely done. They are under new management now and things have gone downhill fast. I am a door dasher and when I came in she wad very rude, she walked put after 30 minutes of me waiting and said "who the h*ll food is this." Also when I went in the chairs and boxes were all over the place and the place was dirty. The lady who runs China house on Telegraph served me the wrong soup and refused to give me my change back. I handed her a $50 bill while I was charged $31 she only gave me $5 back and took it as a tip when I should've gotten $19 back. Went back to ask for change lady refused to do so. Hot and sour soup does not have the dark broth from many other places. The soup flavor was acceptable, but could be better. Their reason for my one star review was due to me finding three hair strands between lo-mein and fried rice. I can handle one strand, but by the time I found a third strand I could not continue eating my food. This is something they need to fix. What a disappointment. We ordered Takeaway; Shrimp Egg Foo Yung. Shrimp Egg Rolls and Shrimp Fried Rice for one meal, There was more shrimp in the rice than any other of the dishes. Taste was bland, rice had been sitting around for some time, by the looks and taste of it. The gravy with the Shrimp Egg Foo Yung tasted like chicken soup. Other meal was Egg Rolls, Chicken Curry (Requested HOT) and plain fried rice. Chicken Curry was tasteless, and the plain fried rice, also aged, had abundant shrimp, and I hate any sea food however it is served. YUK. We have eaten in and had takeout several times over the last 10 years. We had not had food here for about a year. Dont know if it has changed ownership, but we will NOT be returning. The last three times I ordered the chicken was very tough and hard to cut, the egg rolls were tasteless, crab rangoon's were burnt. I am a self-proclaimed Chinese food snob, and China House has never disappointed me. While they serve "Americanized" Chinese food, it is always fresh and very well-made. Most of their sauces are made in-house; their eggrolls are also made fresh and are the best I have ever had. Singapore Rice Noodles is a fantastic dish; if you're into spice, order it hot. General Tso's is another good bet, as is the Szechuan Style Bean Curd. The garlic sauce in the latter is fragrant and sweet, with a hint of heat. The Chinese mustard will knock your socks off. I've heard eating it described as a religious experience. To top it all off, the waitstaff and owners are delightful and very friendly. When we eat at China House now, after moving an hour away, we are always welcomed as if we were royalty. Definitely eat here. Make a special trip down to "Level Pebble" if need be.
