Eggroll was all veggie and no meat, crispy. Rice needed to be cooked a little more as some bits had a crunch to it. Also had the chicken finger app which was a generous portion. Good meat to batter ratio and would order this again. The red40 sauce was not my taste. They provided fortune cookies and condiments in the bag, no cutlery or napkins. read more

I wish I could rate this at a 3.5 instead of a 3. I ordered the sampler platter (combo c I think) which had chicken wings, fried shrimp, an egg roll, and fried rice. I also got the wonton soup and an order of sweet and sour chicken. The wonton soup was a solid soup, I ate it for two days and enjoyed it. The fried rice was typical and was very good. I wanted to love the fried shrimp more than I did, the breading was really thick which kind of ruined it for me. I liked the sweet and sour chicken fingers but it wasn't my favorite red sauce. We visited China House on Christmas Day. The restaurant was doing a brisk takeout business but still were able to cater to our party of four as we wanted to dine in. All the food was delicious, the portions were enormous, and when some members of our party wanted hot tea to go with their food, they provided it from their personal supply, as hot tea is not a menu item. I had seen on all the local forums that this was a hidden gem in our area for Chinese food. I have to say the food was pretty good, and prices were affordable. I feel that the food was much less greasy than the typical Chinese places we have tried. The service was quick , professional, and made it very easy for order and pick up. I really enjoyed the sesame chicken it had a really good flavor and extra sauce in the bottom of the container. The broccoli was fresh and delicious. I have been ordering at least once a week from China House over the past 2 months. All were delivery orders; all over $30; tips were above average. Unfortunately I have noticed the service and attention to the orders has eroded over time. Last evening's meals were delivered cold. Both combo meals were missing the supposed-to-be included egg roll. The subtotal (exclusive of the tax and delivery fee) of the order amounted to $24.95...5 cents short of the $25 minimum required for the December 2 can soda bonus. The 5 cents (although the add on charges were in excess of $4) would not be waived. The mentioned December bonus has to be requested by the customer...staff never offers the bonus. The bonus (2 canned sodas or 2 egg rolls) is strictly enforced. When asked if the bonus could be amended to 1 soda and 1 egg roll, the "No" would have made Seinfeld's Soup Nazi proud. We're going to give them 1 more try. Hopefully the order will be complete, delivered warm, and I will remember to request the bonus. read more

Always omit mushrooms from Chinese restaurant orders as are thick and slimy (canned?). Forgot to omit when ordering from China House and found thin-sliced, non-slimey mushrooms in my veg fried rice .. wonderful!! Also pea pods not moribund but fresh and lightly cooked, as well as broccoli and other veggies ... fabulous!! We ordered pick-up on Christmas Eve, early, arriving to a customer-packed store front where the kitchen was cook-packed and the register helper-packed! China House handled the abundance of orders, take-out, deliveries, phoned-in and online, with speed and grace. Choreography and linguistics provided pop-up entertainment to ease slight waiting time. Today we ordered from China House for the first time since our regular Chinese restaurant go-to is closed on Mondays. I'm glad we did! Overall, the food was great, some dishes better than other as is usually the case. The best item was the steamed dumplings. These were tasty and the dough wasn't hard as it can be. The sauce was excellent. The won ton soup was pretty special too. In a large order, there must have been 8 or 10 wontons? They were big and juicy! The roast pork egg rolls were large and crunchy. The general tso's was good but not the best we've had. The fried rice was good. I enjoyed the added bean sprouts and there was plenty of roast pork but it was a little over-cooked (dry) and needed mustard to provide more flavor. By the way, I guess you have to ask for packets of mustard and other sauces. We weren't asked if we wanted any and I always assume it's added to the bag as we're accustomed to. Glad we had a supply! This place is much further away from us but I'm pretty sure we'll make the long trip again soon! read more

We have been ordering food here for the last 15 years at least once a month. Crab rangoon boneless spare ribs coconut chicken house special rice are the favorites we get every time. Over the years have tried at least every dish they make once. Never had a issue the food is always hot, tastes great and they deliver it fast. The only thing that really really irritates me is the 7.35 % tax and that's not their fault it's the backstabbing two faced lying democrats in hartford taxing everyone. China House has the standard selection of Chinese food. Although they serve the usual crispy chunks of chicken cooked with different sauces China House food tastes somewhat better than other places and I'm not sure why. Even the pork lo mein, which can be pretty greasy, tastes very good here. On my last visit there I found two issues. I ordered a lunch special with wonton soup. I arrived about fifteen minutes after ordering and while my entree was very hot, the wonton soup was cold. Second issue was that they have $.50 charge for credit card payments under $10. So instead of paying $5.75 as advertised I ended up paying $6.83 for a total. I was surprised because nothing on the menu says there is a minimum for credit card payments and I've never had this happen when buying Chinese food anywhere else. So be prepared to pay extra with a card if your order is under $10 read more

So I ordered from China house as I always do unknowingly the site chose the new london store which I didn't even know existed. Half the food was overcooked and disgusting and the other half had absolutely no flavor. I was super disappointed with this order and will never order from that place again. We ordered through delivery last night, and to say i was disappointed is an understatement.. we ordered crab Rangoon's, orange chicken combo, beef chow mein, sweet and sour chicken, and king pao chicken. The Rangoon's, sweet and sour chicken and the beef chow mein was good. Everything else was burnt, dry and flavorless. The orange chicken was so over cooked it didn't even taste like orange chicken, not to mention how dry it was. The two white rice sides and the fried rice that came with the orange chicken meal were all burnt and gross. And the kung pao chicken had more veggies and nuts in it than chicken.
