Our new favorite dish on this occasion was one our attentive waitron recommended, which was fried tofu and flounder in a big bowl full of clear spicy ginger garlic sauce with celery, carrots, and mini mushrooms. It was heavenly perfection spooned over the white rice it came with. Their salt & pepper pork chop pieces were coated with fine crumbs and deep fried, which we dipped in sauces of flavored soy and hot chili oil that were also for the fried shrimp wontons we ordered. The crunchy pork complimented the delicate fish and tofu. A saucy dish of greens would round this meal out perfectly. I called in to place a delivery order and I was told it would've took 40-45 minutes to be delivered which I didn't mind at first. But I've decided to change my mind and got something else which would be quicker. I called back to cancelled and the lady that took my order was trying to convince me to still have the order since the "chef was prepping the food already." I simply explained to her that I will no longer will want the food because I changed my mind. A minute later the delivery driver called being very rude and telling me if I didn't want the food then I shouldn't call. She tried to offer me to send her a picture to show that she had the food which is really weird because I was told that it would've took 45 minutes to be delivered. Food was delicious. We had the Egg fu young and beef ho fun. Place deserves to be more busy for a Friday afternoon but on the bright side our service was awesome. I think if you do take out they should give you some utensils, napkins, and a plate, especially during lunchtime. The food is fast food Chinese food, don't expect much. The staff was pretty nice, but something was just missing. Didn't really taste like much. I think I'll probably still come back and try something else during lunchtime. I have been getting Chinese food from here for 50+ years. It's always been the best around, worth travelling from several towns away. We recently got takeout twice from here in the last 2 months and sadly to say we were very disappointed! The dumplings are not good anymore, appear to be bulk purchased instead of hand made. The dumpling sauce was super salty and did not taste good at all. The wonton soup which has always cured what ails you was disappointing to say the least. The broth was bland and not hot at all, the bok chop way replaced with lettuce and the soup had giant chunks of carrots and halved wite mushrooms. Not the won ton soup we travel for. I don't know if the business has been sold or passed down or struggling financially but the changes ruined it for me. Sad day for sure. read more

The Chinese Kitchen used to be one of my favorite Chinese restaurants and would drive ~30 minutes to get there. The Good: The service was good and the prices were reasonable. The Bad: When we arrived, our party was seated immediately. We were one of two tables in the restaurant at the time. We were celebrating a birthday, and were looking forward to a scorpion bowl to start the evening. However, we were told that the restaurant no longer serves alcohol. Additionally, when we ordered food, we found that the dinner specials were no longer served with fried rice. They are now served with plain white rice. This was very annoying. So we asked if we can substitute the rice for the two dinner specials we ordered with chicken fried rice (expecting an up charge). Our server said yes. When our entrees arrived, we did not get the dinner specials. Instead, we received the full General Tso's and Chicken and Broccoli entree (with no egg rolls) and a full order of chicken fried rice . The Ugly: We had a party of 4 and had ordered a lot of food. In addition to our entrees, we ordered golden fingers, crab Rangoons, fried shrimp and spring rolls as appetizers The appetizers came out pretty quick, however, they were well over cooked. The color was on the darker side, and they tasted dried out. As our waitress passes out our dinner plates, a bug ran across one of them. The waitress immediately turned away and removed the plate before most of our party saw it. Unfortunately, for those of us that did see it, lost their appetite immediately. It makes you wonder what the cleanliness of kitchen looks like. Summary: The Chinese Kitchen has been around for a long time. It was sad to see such a decline in the food quality, the bar being removed, and the questionable cleanliness. The food here is pretty good. The owners are Chinese & so there's a nice selection of authentic Chinese dishes to choose from. There's also plenty of American Chinese dishes to choose from. The Chinese dishes are $4-$5+ more expensive than the American dishes which was surprising. I ordered a small wonton soup which was good. The broth wasn't overly complex but it was still fine. The wontons were large & plentiful. There were 4 in my small soup. They included fresh Chinese cabbage in the soup & a few pieces of bbq pork. I also ordered the Chicken Chow Fun. The portion was generous & it was solidly good. I luv the roasted flavor in chow fun. The young waitress was polite. The service & kitchen were both fast. I did notice that the Pepper Steak was prepared with green bell peppers instead of hot long horn peppers which was disappointing. The interior is pretty standard for a sit down Chinese restaurant. They have predominantly Pleather banquet seating for 4. They have a lot of 2 tops to accommodate different sized parties. They also had a large round table with a lazy Susan which you always see at authentic Chinese restaurants. There was a variety of Chinese memorabilia decorating the walls. There was also a small bar on the left when you first walk in. They serve bee, wine & cocktails. There was no music playing. The restaurant was clean. I did not use the restrooms so I can't vouch for them. It was an overall perfectly pleasant experience. I need to return to try some of the other Chinese dishes to really get a sense of this place. I've been coming to this place since I was a child and I absolutely love the staff and the food here. My mom and I stopped by for a quick lunch and ordered the Sam Gop Di...i think that's what it was but it was chicken, shrimp and roasted pork in a garlic sauce with garden steamed veggies. Comes with white rice. Overall it was so light and a wonderful lunch option but the shrimp just tasted old. The pork as well but the chicken was very flavorful and fresh as well as the vegetables. Our food came out in less than 7 minute from the time we ordered and it was very hot which we enjoyed. All the House Combination dishes are big enough to share with someone so I recommend you share those meals unless you are super hungry. Because the shrimp and pork just tasted old we didn't eat it which was disappointing. But overall every time we come here we order the aunthentic Chinese dishes and they have been incredible!!! I had to spit it out, the fried shrimp tasted like it was expired awhile ago, the teriyaki stick was stringy and hard also tasted like it was bad. I spent $70 on an order for my family that I had to throw out, and then when I called to complain about it they just offered to "let the chef know". Quick rundown: Service 4 stars Food 3 stars Interior 3 stars Extra star for the menu having a Chinese Chinese section, not something you see in most American Chinese restaurants I got the wonton soup, crab rangoons, chicken lo mein. Wontons were good but the broth was weak. The rangoons were not too bad, but the filling was quite bland. I brought them home to see if chilling them and allowing them to sit made the filling taste better. Side note, if your crab rangoons don't taste like anything, try this previous tip, they may taste better later. The chicken lo mein was pretty good, but it was a fairly standard serving size, definitely nothing that made my eyes boggle. The service was attentive, close to 5 stars there. The server took so long to bring menus that another patron went to get his own and brought some to our table. My absolute favorite Chinese joint in Groton. The food is delicious (hot and sour soup is a must), and I love the friendly vibe of the service staff. Sometimes, I drive up seeing one of the owners watering their herb and vegetable garden. I like knowing that some of the flavors are grown in house. The combination platters are a fantastic deal. The corn and chicken soup is great, the bean tips or pea tips (greens from a pea or bean plant, not sure which) are perhaps my favorite vegetable ever. (pronounced something like "don-meyow"). Worst takeout so far! We ordered Hunan Beef, Shrimp w/Garlic sauce, and two orders of Orange Chicken. One of the orders of Orange Chicken was inedible because they had fried the chicken to the point that they were the density of rocks and both had no hint of orange flavor at all. The Shrimp w/Garlic sauce tasted like it had been soaked in sesame oil. The Hunan Beef was devoid of any flavor. Had to use Sriracha salt just to add flavor and about halfway through I found a hair in the sauce itself. The fried rice that came with each meal also had no flavor at all (you can guess the pattern by now). Absolute disappointment. Will not recommend and will not order from this place again! read more
