My order of vegetarian orange chicken was super tasty and filling. Located by Zodo's, it's a small shop which somehow doesn't feel crowded despite its size. I raved about China King to my relatives as the food I got there at lunch was superb, especially the Kung Pao chicken and hot and sour soup. Last night, when 5 of us went, I was so disappointed. Two dishes were cool (in temperature). We ate one, the Mu Shu pork which was tasty but not hot; and sent the Sweet and Sour Pork back to be reheated (not worth it as the pork was extremely chewy). The beef and broccoli was very good, and the chow fun dish was tasty. A friend had ordered take-out chow mein and ended up throwing most of it away. What happened, China King owners? Was there a different cook last night? Did your quality just suddenly go down? Please don't drop in quality like Mandarin Palace did. I want to be able to take friends there and have a great meal. A special gem! The gentlemen who owns this restaurant is named Patrick. He brings the food answers the phone, cleans the table, etc. He is consistently polite and helpful in every way. I know that Goleta and SB have many Asian restaurants but the chef here is truly talented. We go at least once a week and have never been disappointed. My fiancé' and I have been looking in Goleta for a new Chinese food place to dine at and I think we found it! The experience was great. I haven't left a restaurant feeling this happy in a long time. When we first walked up, the door was held open for us as we were immediately seated at a table in the back. Our order was taken shortly after that. When it arrived our waitress served each one of us a plate and left. ALL OF THE FOOD CAME OUT DELCIOUS! We were excited for leftovers. The service was great. I have been to China King a few times for lunch and dinner, mainly because Goleta does not have many options for Chinese food. The food is on the salty side and the owner (Jennifer's) attitude even saltier! I am going to try others that have opened in IV (Lucky Dragon, Wecook etc) or make the drive to Santa Barbara for good Chinese food. About the owner's attitude - she suddenly forgets English language when asked for something she doesn't want to accomodate. They also provide the bill in Chinese so watch out for discrepancies as you only get to see the total, not the breakdown of the bill. read more

Whenever I am craving Chinese food, I always order from here. I usually order the chicken chow mein and amazing ribs. I love how the chicken chow mein has a lot of noodles and chicken. The amazing ribs have so much flavor and meat also. So delicious. However, the only thing I don't like is that I get way too full from the food and it makes me sleepy. Not sure if it's because of the grease in the food or that the portions are just so much, I get too full. The staff are always friendly everytime I go, and they always compliment my dog, snowball. In strip mall dominated by Zodos bowling alley, and I really mean dominated as in you'll have a heck of a time finding a parking spot due to the presence of Zodos' patrons. Gotta love em though because that's good clean fun, bowling and brews! Back to China King! Well, it's a solid local neighborhood joint that offers good value and very good flavor. It's quite popular for takeout although it also offers seating for about thirty diners in a small but pleasant dining room. The other night we enjoyed takeout spicy General Taos Chicken, String Beans, spicy Country Style Tofu, Combo Chow Mein, Broccoli Beef, and perfectly steamed rice which was included with the entrees. While the food did not blow me away, it really hit the spot on a cool autumn night, and the kitchen really delivered when I asked for extra spicy on the General Taos and the tofu. Furthermore my to-go order was ready within the promised twenty minutes, and the owner also included a free order of egg rolls just because! I really appreciated that, and will certainly return based on that small nicety. Aside from the parking hassle, China King is a good source of homey Chinese favorites when you want something a little more authentic than Panda Express. After Ming Dynasty closed, it was time to search for another Chinese restaurant in the area. I was pleasantly surprised by China King. I honestly don't get out to that part of Goleta as much, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. The standout dish here was the orange peel beef. I especially love when restaurants include the burnt orange peel with the beef itself, and China King's had plenty of that (as well as roasted spicy peppers). This is frankly better than the one that was at Ming Dynasty in my opinion. The chow mein was less impressive, but I'll probably just end up trying something else next time as there are plenty of options from which to choose. Got this dessert dish like a sweet soup balls, the soup is so sweet that I just eat a little and can't eat anymore. The restaurant is pretty popular and full of white people. The waitress is very nice to those customers who is not Chinese but seems like no facials when we try to order. Definitely won't come again. read more

My husband and I found this little gem after a long day of touring around the area. We wanted to get take out and go back to our travel trailer to enjoy a relaxing evening. We pulled into the parking lot and saw China King. My husband walked up to the door and ordered 3 ingredient fried rice and wor wonton soup. The guy that took our order even walked it out to our truck. We took it home and boy were we surprised! The best wor wonton soup we have had in quite a while. The fried rice was also excellent. We ordered through Grub Hub. Normally we have a positive experience except for the fact that China King consistently refuses to include condiments even when you literally beg for them. Grub hub folks don't check orders and don't care what they deliver. Tonight we ordered online and didn't receive any rice. It came with our order. And it's Chinese's food, sooooo we expect that rice would be included. If there was any question about the type of rice I would expect the restaurant to ask. After spending $56 for soup and a main dish, seeing that no rice was delivered, I called the restaurant. They said I had to call Grub Hub. I called my driver who was a total jerk and told me that it wasn't his problem, he wasn't going back and hung up on me. So I called the restaurant again. The person on the phone said that They pay 30% to GH for delivery and if I wanted my rice I would need to come get it. Sigh.... it's not my problem that they are taking such a large cut. He was beyond rude and did nothing to rectify the issue. He also tried to argue with me stating that I never asked for hot mustard. I said it was a minor issue but I could send him a screen shot of our order to clarify. He didn't want that. I know that he could see this. I do also blame the GH guy for not reminding them. So basically I was denied a full order and called a liar. I called Grub Hub again and after review, was refunded for everything. I am happy to pay for good food and proper service. I refuse to pay for abuse and missing product. Shame on you China King. You could have handled it but chose to confront me instead. read more

Wished this place opened on Mondays. The food here is great. I always go with my favorite which is the Chow Ma Seafood Noodle Soup with extra dried/roasted chili. So good. Goes nice with a bottle of Heineken:) There was only 1 time where I was disappointed. It was sometime last year, I ordered Fried Rice and it was way too oily. As an Oriental myself it was a huge let down on the Fried Rice. I mean, dont get me wring the food here is great. Kind of wonder who made the FR. We loved our kung pao vegetarian chicken, real beef and broccoli, veggie egg rolls, and cream cheese fried won tons. Pretty basic American Chinese comfort food and definitely hit the spot. I was in the area during lunch time and decided to get a bowl of noodle at China King. I am giving it an extra star for their superb spicy beef noodle soup. The soup was robust and concentrated. I can only finish half of it, took it home, and it solidified into gelatin in the fridge. They don't serve the noodles with any cilantro and scallions and I really like these condiments to make the flavors come together, so make sure you ask for them on the side. The only complaint is that the beef could use more cooking time. I like them tender, although some people prefer them to be chewy. read more

With the chilly fall weather rolling in I was in the mood for some wonton soup & steamed dumplings. Knowing I didn't have time to drive into Santa Barbara from Goleta for my usual place I decided to give China King restaurant a try. I phoned my order in and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes, I drove over and my dinner was ready for pickup. They have a table set up right at the door to block the entrance, seeing as it's take out only. To protect their customers a mask is required when ordering and paying. And the woman taking my payment was wearing gloves as well as a mask. The exchange took no more than 2 minutes and I was off to enjoy my food. I decided on a small wor wonton soup, steamed dumplings (8 pieces), vegetarian egg roll (4) and the chicken chow mein because why not? The soup had a generous amount of dumplings, chicken and veggies. The broth was flavorful and they gave me a bag of wontons on the side. The steam dumplings were paired with a dipping sauce that had a nice little spice to it. And the egg rolls were hot (fresh) and they gave me two dipping sauces! I ended up eating only a small bowl of my chicken chow mein after my soup because I had filled up on everything else. The soup and dumplings definitely satisfied my craving and I'll keep China King in mind next time my craving returns. read more

Worth trying if in the neighborhood but not worth going out of your way. Eggplant was cooked fine but not really living up to the Szechuan eggplant I've had in other communities. The noodles were average for this type of restaurant. Muddled flavors and the noodles themselves were uninspiring. But they were cooked properly which is itself a rarity. I did notice some patrons had a separate Chinese menu. No English translation and given the main menu already had Chinese on it I was left with the impression that it had items not present on the other menu. This restaurant was actually pretty good. You can tell the flavors were good and authentic. I've been craving Chinese food for the longest and this definitely satisfied that craving. I got the shrimp chow mein, orange chicken, and beef with broccoli and everything was so good. The orange chicken had a very nice citrusy flavor and thin crispy batter that allowed for a lot of thick chicken in the middle. The beef and broccoli is a staple and was perfect. Although I will say that I'm not the biggest fan of the beef in there but that's just a general thing for me. The shrimp chow mein was good and had a good amount of veggies but there was no soy sauce or sriracha on the sides just in case you want a kick. Otherwise very good food and nice staff. Back 6 months, we started getting less shrimp in the Wor Wonton soup. The second time, we also got Kung Pao Three Delight. I don't know WHAT it was, but it wasn't Kung Pao. Then last night, we ordered again after not ordering for about 2 months. It was to salty, and the cabbage was MUSH. At least there was 4 shrimp. Lol Seriously China King, what going on?? WOW. I've never had such bland food in my life. Absolutely no flavor whatsoever. I had the chow mein, the beef and broccoli, the wor wanton soup, and the egg rolls. All were equally bland. No salt, no flavoring, nothing. Do yourself a favor and go to Panda Express instead. You can get the same garbage but with better flavor and for a lower price somewhere other than here!!!!
