It was cold so we ordered the wonton soup to start - it was large, with lots of wontons and had good flavor. Mom got the shrimp lo mein and I had the kung pao chicken. How I heard of this place: My mother-in-law asked us to stop by China Legend for a takeaway order of her favorite dish. Type of cuisine: Chinese fast food with an authentic flair. Ambiance: Set in a strip mall near Walmart, the establishment seems to cater more towards take-away pick-up orders, rather than in-house dining. A handful of tables and chairs are available at the walls on either side of the entry, though one table hosted a box of soy sauce packets, etc. Fluorescent lighting overhead, a counter with menu overhead leading back to a dark kitchen, the space doesn't come across as being anything that exciting. The service is friendly and quick. What I ordered: Singapore Noodles, which seemed to not exist on the menu. What I loved: The heat of the dish we ordered, the creaminess, the perfectly cooked vegetables and noodles. Really not good. Not sure why the reviews are as good as they are. I got chicken and mushrooms, my son got Bourbon Chicken, and my daughter got Wonton Soup. None of which was good. The chicken and mushrooms came with stringy, and gristly chicken, so much of it I had to spit out. My son's Bourbon chicken tasted like they poured a bunch of maple syrup on it and it was making him nauseated so he couldn't eat it. My daughter ate her soup, but the broth was bland and not much flavor at all. Service felt rushed, and the guy seemed annoyed because we were trying to decide what we wanted since we've never been here before. A gentleman came in and spoke to one of the ladies in the front and he was looking for some empathy since he said he's going into surgery on Monday, and the lady looked over him to speak to a lady who was sitting in the dining area. I felt so badly for him. The place is very small. 4 tables to seat 4 at each one. They keep the door open and it's humid, so it's not the best area to eat. With the fantastic reviews and coming here from the airport, I certainly expected better. What a shame. read more

I have seen China Legend on Yelp searches, and they have a higher rating than most other Chinese take out places. Since I was in the area today, I stopped by to see why. I found them easily in the Walmart shopping center on Gunn Hwy... and went in. They have some tables and chair for dining in, although they currently have them all shoved up against a wall due to pandemic. They also have a plexiglass pickup box at the counter to protect themselves and to protect their customers. System works well! A young lady took my order for the Lunch Special Sesame Chicken, and told me it would be ready in about ten minutes. Seven minutes later, I had my food. I did ask for chopsticks since they were not included... and received them without an issue. I also asked if they minded if I sat inside and ate, since I was on my motorcycle, and did not want to drive home to eat. She said sure, no problem! Very friendly and helpful. The Sesame Chicken was hot, crispy and very good... the pork fried rice included in the special was good also, and had more flavor than some of the other local places I have tried. The eggroll... YUM, it was one of the best eggrolls I have had in quite a while, really crisp, large, and loaded with tasty filling. The fortune cookie was crispy also... I have had stale ones from some of the other local places. China Legend is not the closest Chinese food to me, but I suspect I will be coming here more often... as it was definitely better! It had been quite some time since I have been more than happily satisfied with going to a quick service Chinese fast food place. I usually get chicken chow mei fun every time I go to fast food Chinese places. When I asked if they were able to make it with only the egg, carrot, and onion, the nice woman taking the order said yes, no problem. Let me tell you, I was THRILLED!!! Not only did they listen to my request, they actually made the order right! This is the only Chinese food place I will order from now when in the Carrollwood area. Also, the crab Rangoon was delish. 1000 points for excellent customer service, I have already recommended this place to about 15 people in the area. It's so important to have that "go to" Chinese spot. You always know what you are going to get. And you can always count on some great food. I enjoyed the General Taos Chicken with Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. The Egg Roll was soooo good. I will be getting 2 next time. The chicken flavor was awesome. The spice was just right. When you can warm up Chinese food the next day and it still good, you know you have found a winner. It was so good for lunch. My husband is very picky when it comes to Chicken Wings. He enjoyed their wings. Was made he only got 1 order. Lol. He also had the Chicken Lo Mien extra spicy and it was really yummy. I enjoyed it also. Overall great food. We were given good sized portions and had leftovers for the next day! My favorites were the egg rolls and the pork mei fun! The prices are affordable and the staff was friendly! We just tried this recently renovated local Chinese takeout place and were pleasantly surprised. The prices were very reasonable and we had two lunch combos. It is a typical chinese take-out style place and also has 4 tables. It was clean and we decided to eat in. Although it was a Saturday, it was great to be able to enjoy a weekday lunch combo serving and prices on a weekend. We had the Kung pao chicken and the boneless spareribs. Both were decent. The only downside was the spareribs were a little tough yet they had good flavor. The egg rolls were tasty and crispy. The lady at the front was very pleasant as well. A solid choice and we will be back again. read more

This place is extra mediocre. They were nice tho so bonus points for that. I got the small sesame chicken lunch special. The chicken was SWIMMING in sauce. Like, under the sea chicken. This super liquid concoction cost me $13 w/tip. I know stuff happens and it wont happen again bc i wont stop there. I was in the area for work and im grateful for what i did get. It just was sub par on taste and presentation. Also, the egg roll was a pocket of just salt. A salt stick. But hey i ate it and said my prayers cuz it was a long a$$ day at work. Why 3 stars? Because it was your typical Chinese take-out experience. --- --- --- I recently noticed China Legend in a shopping center near my house. While I didn't have super high hopes that it would be much different than any other Chinese takeout experience, I put it on my to-do list based on how conveniently located it was. It turned out to be right about what I expected. Has any Chinese takeout restaurant in the history of the world ever had any variance to it? It's literally like all ten million of them in America are all just sister restaurants under the same corporate umbrella. Actually, that's not totally true. I did notice something on the menu here that I'd never seen before. Mei Fun, which are these thin rice noodles, caught my eye, so I went with that. It was fine. Not a bad meal, but not something I'm dying to try again. With that being said, I'd give China Legend another shot next time I'm craving Chinese food. They don't have those exact same menu photos above the counter that every other place has, so maybe... just maybe... China Legend is the one that's different. read more

Went yesterday based on other reviews on here. VERY expensive. Paid $13+ for each entree and didn't receive rice w/one of the meals - unsure if this was intentional. Shrimp rolls were super-expensive and only had 1 tiny salad shrimp in the entire roll - we ordered 3. Kung Pao chicken was bland. Beef w/pepper & onion was bland. General Tsao was so strong it was burning my eyes and I didn't order/eat it (wasn't mine). Krab Rangoon was expensive, for what you get, and flavorless. Fried 'dough' with fake krab and cream cheese - also bland/no flavor. No chopsticks available. No fortune cookies included. My order was $63+ I moved from a different part of Tampa to Carrollwood and wanted to try Chinese food in my area. WON'T be going back. How did this place get such good ratings? The only "Legend" here is the rating. This place sucks. I asked for white meat chicken, they upcharged, I paid, they served me 100% fried batter with no chicken.
