a pile of ribs on a piece of tin foil

If I could give China Maxim a lessor mark, I would. We used to like going here as some of the appetizers were really good. Tonight I just wanted some spare ribs as a quick thing to pick up. When I got them home, they were burnt! Now how hard is it to NOT burn any food..???!!! Ever since this new management took over, a couple of weeks ago, the food has been horrible. Had some the first day they opened, and it was bad. Decided to give them another try because a lot of places have a few break-in days to get ready. Do yourself a favor - stay away!!!

Pork fried rice with no pork lol

This use to be my favorite place around the new owners are cutting corners ! tossed the rice in the trash ( no flavor no pork in the rice ) the prices have been raised not worth it at all

The extremely overcooked egg that I found in my Hot and Sour Soup

A Long time veteran. Their food's alright but I feel that it's really over rated. Their general tsos carries wayyyyy too much ginger

Recently renovated, it definitely feels more welcoming to dine in. It's so live on the weekends during dim sum time. It's always a pack house. Parking situation might be tough but just be patient. There's always a party leaving every 5-10 minutes. Expect heavy traffic lol Fried calamari was really good. Make sure to go up and get it once they bring it out. Black bean clams were ok, a little bland for me. Shumai they had a couple options. I definitely like the XL size ones. Steamed shrimp noodles were ok, not bad. Chicken feet were pretty good. Overall, for dimsum, it's good but not the best. Definitely better than most other spots.

Typically, you are quickly seated with the server checking in immediately and providing hot tea for the table. This is based on 3 recent visits, and weighted by the last visit which was a disappointment. The neon lights outside beckon you to come in. It's a brightly lit dining room with round tables typical a large Dim Sum restaurant in Boston. Perhaps a little too bright, but there is typically a table available. It offers late dining which is great. The food is certainly very good typically with good sized portions at a good value. The pan friend dumplings a large, tender and a great value. The Hunan and Sichuan dishes provide healthy portions. Definitely very good Chinese food for the area. It is typically served quickly and very hot. The service has been mixed. On a not so busy night, we felt ignored. It took a long time to get drinks (arriving with the food in one case) on one occasion.

Two…read moredinners and a lunch in the past year or so have had a mix of great, near great, just okay, and iffy, so I'd say 3.5 is the right number, but leaning higher because it's definitely better than the current rating. Spareribs on the Bone: A very large serving for $16.50, painted red and additionally drizzled with honey, which drips into the bottom of the bowl for dipping. Tried twice: one time elite, one time near-elite. Good old-time flavor. Slightly firm bite that still has tenderness and moistness even aside from the glaze. Chicken Wings in Black Bean Sauce: Dark, bumpy, scalding hot, and relentlessly fierce, with unenhanced, undiluted, wonderful black bean flavor. Good quantity, good size, and nice marinade flavor under the sauce, but zero crispness. Messily delicious, and the potential is there to be near-elite if even only somewhat crisp. But as served, a little above average. Lobster Sauce: Dark and strong flavored. Near-elite. Sweet and Sour Chicken (on a combo): Big pieces, puffy and crispy, with not the greatest meat-to-batter ratio, but still solid enough. Standard issue red sauce, though nicely done. Overall, a bit above average but not noteworthy. Pork Strips (on the same combo): No other way to say it: dry, dry, and more dry. On the other hand, still average, because pork strips are usually dry. Duck sauce helped. Egg Roll (on the same combo): Very, very good, possibly near-elite. Crisp shell, mostly celery, nice moistness, very detectable pork. Pork Fried Rice (as full orders and on a combo): Mixed results, with two out of the three looking and tasting very tired, with light grains, light flavor, and even lightly colored/flavored pork. Much fresher and brighter another time. Boneless Ribs: These were excellent, and most likely cooked entirely from scratch after I ordered it. Bright red shellac, nice porky flavor, extremely fresh and juicy, not too sweet (though sweet is certainly fine on boneless, a la Ray's in Needham). Elite for sure. Quality runs the full gamut, but old-time, somewhat divey atmosphere helps if that's your thing. Service isn't polished, but very pleasant.

Prices are amazing for what you get (Lunch specials 11am-3pm), especially in this economy. $13 total with tax gets you a full entree + your choice of pork fried rice, fried rice, or white rice + an appetizer of your choice + a soup or drink. This was a complete meal that you can easily have leftovers of. 2. The speed of service was great too, food was ready in 10 minutes from when I called and was fresh! 3. There is a very accessible parking lot outside, made it easy to pull in, get food, and leave. 4. The lady at the counter was very nice from picking up the phone and taking my order to handing it off. 5. They provided as much sauce, utensils, and napkins as you requested, no cheaping out! Overall, I can't speak for dining in (seemed a bit small to do so), however getting takeout was a wonderful experience and I will be eating here again!! Also they have online ordering through their website and through the major food delivery services

Just kind of average. It is clearly a place that makes its money on a bar. Walk in and it smells like old carpet, moisture damage, booze and townie farts. The full bar of townies at noon is a testament to where it's money is made. It is appropriately dimly lit. We did take out. I recommend you do take out. Dinner visit: -- Fried Wontons (appetizer): Available in two sizes; I got the small and got plenty. The nice thing about these is that they're meat-filled, which you rarely see at similar restaurants. Good flavor and moisture, avoiding that dry empty crackle you get elsewhere. Crisp with bend. Elite. -- Sweet and Sour Chicken (combo): Small bowl atop the plate to hold the sauce in. And a great sauce it was, delivering both the sweet and the sour without much glop. Crisp, non-puffy batter. Different looking chicken: instead of lengthy fingers, they're plump little mounds. This gives a good meat-to-batter ratio and keeps the chicken not only moist, but downright juicy. They might have used dark meat. Numerous cherries and even chopped pickles. Near-elite. -- Egg Roll (on the combo): Narrow crisp shell around an all-green interior of mixed greens looking like it came from the produce section without much chopping. Minimal pork. Average this night or a bit below, though usually above. -- Boneless Ribs (on the combo): Some five spice mixed in with the standard issue red. Neither dry nor juicy but closer to dry. Likely reheat. A bit below average. -- Pork Fried Rice (on the combo): Good amount, decent color and flavor, a little on a dry side, but not bad. Hints of old school flavor and feel. A little above average. Late lunch visit: -- Sweet and Sour Chicken (combo): Again in a separate bowl, again golf-ball-sized chunks of battered chicken, with decent crispness and a nuanced pinkish red sauce underneath. Chicken tender and mostly dark meat. Sauce again nicely sour as well as sweet, and included bits of chopped cucumber as well as pineapples and cherries. Elite. -- Egg Roll (on the combo): Thin, but crisp with green bounty inside. Much more celery than cabbage, some pork, and a pleasant seasoning. Had that old school sawdust texture but not dry. Near-elite. -- Boneless Ribs (on the combo): Short and thin with dark red paint and a little char. Another long-held item or (more likely) reheat. Flavor was okay, but these were so dry they were inedible. Well below average. -- Pork Fried Rice (on the combo): Looked decent from far away, but this was sitting around a long time if not literally reheated from the night before. The pork nuggets looked just as tired. Numerous rice clumps, which can happen when you refrigerate it. Dry and lacking flavor. Below average. Inconsistency for sure. You take the good, you take the bad, you take it all and there you have the facts of life regarding Jade East in Tewksbury. This place can be really good when all the stars are aligned. If only they were always aligned. Seems like they're cutting corners.
