Five Star Food And Service At The Village Inn! We decided to check out The Village Inn in Dracut MA seeing so many posts that people enjoyed it. It was 4 pm on a Saturday and the place was very busy. We thought we were going early. There was one booth left.... 4 is not early at this place. Sat down and server Charlie came right over to take out drinks order. He came back shortly after with water, the drinks and a basket of 2 crusty rolls that were right out of the oven with a generous amount of butter. You didn't have to ask for bread like at a lot of establishments, or have them say no, we don't have any bread like you see everywhere today. I decided to order the Baked Seafood Platter $26.99! I wanted to try the scallops, fish and baked stuffed shrimp, so what better way than to get a little of each? I was a little skeptical.. lately I have been getting horrible wet scallops that are treated with chemicals. Thought for sure it was going to be another disappointment with the Scallops, but I figured I had the other two items so why not go for it? I got a baked potato and carrots as well. All came on a plate with delicious looking buttery cracker crumb topping. I gotta tell you my first bite was a scallop. The look on my face told it all! I couldn't believe how sweet and delicious those scallops were! They were delicious, and I mean delicious! The fish was fresh (not frozen or old) and delicious as well. The shrimp were smaller ones but also delicious. The baked potato was cooked perfectly and the carrots were fresh and perfectly cooked and seemed to have a hint of maple syrup in them. A lot of places you get carrots and they are either frozen or raw. Not here. My husband decided to try the Prime Rib. He said he called to check and see if they had Prime Rib the night we were going, and a guy told him they have it every night. He got the smaller 16 oz piece for $31.99. Turns out it was super tender, cooked perfectly, the aujus was the real deal and not salty canned beef broth. He also got baked potato and onion rings ($1.49 upcharge). We loved the onion rings as well. Thin slices of onion perfectly fried. He said the 16 oz was more than enough and ate it all. This place is a hidden gem. A lot of comments mention it being dated, etc. It is clean and pleasant. I go to a restaurant for delicious food hopefully at a very reasonable price. The Village Inn fits that bill. Couldn't believe how good the food was and the prices they charge very resonable! When were leaving there people waiting all over the place. Good thing we didn't go later, we may have not waited. Now that we know how good it is, we would wait. There menu is a vast assortment, something for everyone. Our server Charlie was AWESOME!!! Very attentive and knowledgeable. When we mentioned how delicious everything was, he was so happy and said he would let his family know. He also said to try the steak tips they are very good. I have read that their tip are delicious. Finally, we touched on a restaurant that satisfies all points of going out to eat at a restaurant. Food: delicious, Service: excellent, Price: Very reasonable, and loads of parking! Is it trendy or fancy? No. Is it delicious? Heck yeah! Have been thinking about going for a while and so sad we didn't earlier as this place is awesome. Our food was so good and the portions were huge for the price. Lobster pie had like 8 claws in it. The prime rib was huge and tender. The steak tips and I do not say this lightly rivaled my all time fav Floramos. And the baked haddock and carrots were also awesome. Already planning my next meal here! read more

Ordered Chicken Broccoli Alfredo and Prime Rib French DIP. DO NOT RECOMMEND. We've gone here before to dine in and even then, the experience was awful, but we figured after a year there should be some improvement, given the reviews. I ordered chicken brocolli Alfredo and we did NOT receive the Alfredo, instead it was sautéed. Gave it a chance and immediately bit into a wicked hard piece. So hard my teeth chattered soooo loud you can hear it all way in China!!! My friend finished the rest and after two bites, they couldn't finish it because they said it was SOOOOO SALTYYYY. TASTE LIKE THE OCEAN. Not sure why this place is HEAVY HANDED ON SALT????? BECAUSE LAST YEAR, SAME PROBLEM. NEW YEAR, SAME PROBLEM!? ODD because my prime rib had zero OUNCE OF SALT????? NO FLAVOR. So, this place is SO BUSY ALL THE TIME. And they DO NOT take reservations. Martha & I went early one Friday night to "beat the rush". Good thing we did, we had to fight thru the crowd in the lobby to leave. PRO- The food is really good! Really good. I got the steak tips (awesome marinade & tender) and fried scallops(huge & juicy) combo. With a Cesar salad, which was gigantic. And rice florentine, which was very good. Martha got the same steak tips & loved them. Our server, (Alex?) was a nice young man, who was kind & attentive. We both had leftovers to take home. CON- My Chardonnay. Not the best tasting and WARM. WARM! UGH! It's busy, so it's noisy in there. SO- If you go, know you will fight the hordes for a seat most of the time. But seriously, the food is worth a bit of a wait. They do "call ahead" so you can get your name on the list to wait among the hordes in the lobby for less time. SMALL bar out back to wait in too. First time visit. Was quoted a 25 min wait at 4:30. So we ventured to the bar, found 2 seats. Took a few minutes to be acknowledged. Finally ordered drinks app and meals after 15?min . Got drink it was good. 40 min later app came out. Good. Second drink different from first was also very good. Another 45 min go by and seats all around us get food. Nothing for us. First time at this restaurant and I couldn't be more disappointed. My wife and I both ordered the Shrimp Scampi which we've had many times at various restaurants in the area. Clearly the chef has no idea how to make this simple pasta dish. What we got was linguine drowning in a white milky broth with a couple of large shrimps floating in it. I visited during a recent trip home with a big group. I got the prime rib and asked for it to be done medium to medium well and man that thing was brown and hard as a rock. Everyone else got the same but asked for other temps varying from rare to medium, and they all looked very rare and bloody which I just don't want on my plate. This is typically why I ordered the way I did. Waitress didn't even ask if my meal was ok and took it away at the end. I will say that everyone else was very happy! So if you like prime rib and don't mind it more on the rare side, you may like it here. read more

There were 7 in our party and 5 had the prime rib and loved every bite! I had the Lobster Pie. It was delicious and filled with lobster! I could barely finish it. I came in tonight around 5:45pm and walked into the bar and said "is the bar open?" Because I've never seen seats available. I sat down and saved a seat for my boyfriend and soon after it filled up. Derek was amazing! Attentive to everyone at the bar and seats behind, all the while taking dinner orders and tending to the wait staff! He suggested a Thin Mint desert martini for me b/c I like to "drink my desert." Per usual, the food was perfect (prime rib and baked scallops)! I suspect this will not be a popular review with many, based on the multitude of 5 star reviews. I have not visited The Village Inn for 20+ years, but decided to today as I was craving a big slab of prime rib and The Village Inn has a great reputation for that cut. To start I ordered the French onion soup which was fine, not great, just fine. My wife ordered a Caesar salad but was informed they ran out of romaine lettuce and would sub in iceberg. Reluctantly she agreed and was happy with it. To our surprise, and some confusion, our entrees arrived at the same time. Weird!!! My wife had their shrimp scampi which was swimming in a garlic butter sauce. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the pasta was fine. She was happy with it. My 24oz cut of prime rib looked great on arrival. It was tender and had a fair amount of au jus. But it lacked seasoning and tasted like nothing more than a slab of meat. Even dousing it with salt and pepper dis not help. Not memorable at all. The baked potato side was not cooked through, and a bit cold. Our server, Alexis was terrific. Got a lobster roll and clam chowder. The lobster rolls at McDonald's are better than the atrocity that they serve at this place. They charge you almost $30.00 dollars for plain hamburger bun with some unseasoned lobster (mostly cartilage claw). Don't waste your money at this place, just know what you're getting/lack thereof. read more

We were visting the area in the off-season and Village Inn came highly recommended. The parking lot was full so it is clearly a popular place. The interior is inviting and the staff friendly. Prime rib, which many of the reviews rave about, was not on the menu. The food: The dip for the buffalo cauliflower was delicious but for the cauliflower itself - doesn't come close to that at Robert's Maine Diner in Kittery. (Yes we love buffalo cauliflower) The Caesar salad was very nice. My husband got the meatloaf special and he liked it alot. My son got the burger and it vanished. I ordered the seafood linquine "fra diavolo" but the devil was not to be found in there. It was just marinara sauce - good but not at all spicy. (I should have taken the waitress' recommendation and had it with roasted poblano sauce) The maple smashed sweet potato side was delicious, as was the broccoli with blue cheese. We didn't get desert but will come back on another visit. read more

You're not getting better food anywhere else period. I have been to the fancy restaurants in Boston and they pale in comparison to the village Inn. If you don't love this place then you probably hate anywhere you would go. Steak tips are mouthwatering and there haddock stuffed lobster is phenomenal. The prime rib doesn't compare to the top restaurants I have been too. They have it all, chicken finger dinners to filet mignon. Just go there you won't be disappointed. read more

Had dinner at the restaurant last night. Food was very good as usual; however, the wait time was horrible. After getting seated, we had to wait several minutes before being acknowledged. There was only one waiter who was working the first floor and had to cover several tables due to 2 call outs. They had the upstairs open which was a big mistake since that waiter could have helped cover the first floor. Also, the food took forever to be served. I didn't take it out on the waiter because he was doing the best he could given the situation. However, the management really needs to rethink their strategy when faced with an employee shortage. I was very disappointed because I have never had such slow service before. Also, fix the partition located at the table on the first floor at the end of the right side. It is extremely loose and floats back and forth. Very annoying when someone is sitting behind you. I informed the waitstaff who apparently are well aware of the problem. read more

This review is based on lunch. I decided to have lunch at The Village Inn which serves up American cuisine including steaks, seafood, pasta, sandwiches, salads, and more. The lunch prices are very reasonable, most entrees under $10. The dinner prices are moderate, $12-$27 range. The atmosphere here is relaxed, very casual and not fancy, which has a bar area in the back surrounded by sectioned dining areas with comfortable booth seating, some a bit worn. There were a few other diners here having lunch, mostly senior citizens. There's also a Function Hall with plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant. I knew what I wanted before I arrived here since I took a peek at the website. I ordered an ice water (served in an old plastic cup) and the Seafood Cakes ($7.99) which included soup of the day, choice of potato, and cole slaw. The soup (beef barley) was decent, which had chunks of beef steak, barley, & vegetables in a tomato based broth. The entree arrived shortly after. The 2 seafood cakes were deep fried crispy outside and soft inside with baby shrimp, scallops, & crab, minimal bread filler. The dipping sauce was great which had horseradish, mayo, and dijon mustard. The red skin mashed potatoes had a good creamy texture. The homemade chopped cole slaw was a good side with the seafood cakes. I passed on dessert (apple pie a la mode and grapenut custard on special) since I had just enough food. The lunch was very tasty and enjoyable, and the check before tip came out to $8.49. The service was very attentive and efficient. I would definitely recommend The Village Inn as a great place to take your grandparents out for a meal, especially for lunch. Excellent dinner and large portions. 3 of us had the prime rib which was very good. One of us had fried seafood which was also very good and large portion. The only meal that was just ok was the prime rib French dip. Meat was thick (not shaved) and looked like it was made with all the well-done prime rib ends. I would not recommend getting that. Definitely save room for the cookie sundae! read more
