Initially when I read the review for China Moon I was apprehensive to give it a try but nonetheless I did. Well, let me tell you, I am so glad I did. The decor upon entry is nothing to rave about, actually is may be categorized as deplorable and to some unsanitary but after witnessing such I was confident the food would be savory. I called ahead and ordered general taos chicken combo, house lo mein noodles, and some type of spicy peanut shrimp. Per usual I was told it would be ready in 15 minutes and upon entry I did have to wait as the woman managing the register continued to receive calls and fulfill ongoing orders. Just had takeout 2 nights ago. Ordered a pupu platter plus soup and 2 meals. The entire platter was so over fried and ribs burnt black! I can't believe they would send it out the door like that. Long time patron, 25 yrs but food quality has gone down tremendously!!!! Egg rolls greasy, filling was mushy and no pork whatsoever. Roast pork was all sauce and very little pork at all. Overall, the food was pretty well received by all in the party we ordered take out for. I was a little surprised when there was no soy sauce provided as we ordered white rice, vegetable fried rice, and fried pork fried rice. I've never had a Chinese eatery not provide soy sauce, and left us scrambling if the hostess of the house had some. I'm not very creative when it comes to Chinese food. I opt for chicken and broccoli, spare ribs, pork fried rice and dumplings on a rotation. Last night, since I was with a group, WE GOT IT ALL. It was Friday after a long week, we deserved it. It was pretty late when we ordered, around 8 or so, and they had the food ready in 15 minutes which is great. Out of all of the food, the chicken and broccoli stood out. It was tasty and moist and fully of flavor. And the broccoli actually tasted really fresh. But everything else was pretty dry. The boneless ribs, and rice were so dried out, we barely touched them and that's usually my favorite dish. The dumplings were so doughy I didn't really enjoy these either. The group I was with said they have gotten here before and have usually been super happy so I'll blame it on us ordering later in the night. I'd try again for sure. read more

I stopped in with a co-worker for lunch and neither of us had been here before since we are not from the area. It was a great decision. The wonton soup was tasty and the egg rolls were tasty and more impressively, not greasy. I had the shrimp chow fun and my co- worker had the house special Mei fun. Both portions were huge. My shrimp chow fun had lots of shrimp and was perfect. My co-worker said her Mei fun was fantastic. Everything was fresh. We sat inside the restaurant which has about 10 tables. There are a few Chinese food places in the Flemington area, but none are good (most are OK, some just terrible). China Moon is by far the best. The food is flavorful and pretty inexpensive compared to other local options. It's oiler than Lo-Fatt ("healthy" Chinese) in Lebanon, but less oily than the rest of the more local options. Generally, I think most of the Chinese places around Flemington have an unusual subtle sweetness to their dishes, which I'm not a fan of. China Moon's flavors are on point though. The place itself is relatively clean, and the location is convenient. Parking is pretty good (especially after hours) because it's in a strip mall. read more

It is interesting to see others experiencing the same here. China Moon used to be good food and reliable. My last several visits have had order issues between missing items ordered to completely wrong entrees. When I said something (after coming back for my missing rice) I was patronized by being told from now in they will double check my orders. I'll believe it when I see it. I love this place - has been my go to for the last 20 years. There's been a lot of ups and downs; mostly ups, but within the last couple of months I've noticed something is definitely changed. So I'm posting this review in the hope the owners read it. For example, what have you done to your sesame chicken? It's completely changed and truly not good. It went from crispy to soggy to some kind of weird spice roll...Please go back to old recipe it was one of our favorite things to order. Otherwise always a very clean place, always very friendly place, always right on time and nothing to otherwise complain about just some of the recipes have changed and that's not good. Two of my favorite very long time Chinese restaurants in Union County have recently closed and when I read the reviews it's because people have noticed the food has changed - please don't let this happen to you. We used to order every week from China Moon for work - Sometimes twice a week, but when we noticed all the quality changes we stopped. At the moment I'm writing this review, this place is better than almost all in the Flemington area. In the last 6 months, the quality has fallen off ... noticeably. Egg drop soup has gone from light and delightful to thick, slimy and immediately throw out. Sesame chicken from crunchy and light to thick, soggy and bready - ick. Still.
