Walnut prawns were good. Nothing special. Beef short ribs on a sizzling plate came out with too much meat tenderizer. Garlic Chinese broccoli was good, might have been the highlight of the meal. FLY IN FOOD! I wish chinese restaurants did not have this rep., but this is my third chinese restaurant where I found a fly in my food. The other two places that would understand their fault and refund the whole meal. They just refunded the dumplings (where the black fly was obviously on the white dumpling once I removed the top dumpling) and did not offer to remake the food (without flys). A stranger passing by also told me of the poor service here and to check out Chef Chao's around the corner. Still have not tried it, but Golden Palace is great! We had an event for 100 people and China Moon came through with flying colors. We couldn't have been more pleased working with the owner Ben. He helped us select a menu to satisfy our guests, including many vegetarians and knew which entrees would hold up well in chafing dishes for a few hours. He was very generous with the portions of each party pan and also included soy sauce packets and fortune cookies. Our guests raved about how delicious the food was and the variety of entrees. China Moon's prices were very reasonable too. He even accommodated our morning pick-up time which was well before the restaurant opened at 11 a.m. They don't offer delivery service but with their help, it was easy to pick up and pack the food trays in our car. They have lunch specials 7 days a week that come with your choice of an entree, either white rice or fried rice, soup, salad, and an egg roll (for dine in). They smother the egg roll in sweet and sour sauce, so if you'd prefer it on the side, you have to ask for that specifically. I'm not sure if they'll allow you to sub in chow mein, and how much more that might be, but if I'm ever here for a lunch special, I will ask. They've got your standard options as far as entrees go (i.e. orange chicken, honey walnut prawns, beef and broccoli, vegetable dishes, etc.). You're sure to find something that you'll like depending on whether you're feeling like protein or not. One of my younger brothers wanted Chinese food for dinner last week so we tried this place out - $26.95 for - Chicken Chow Mein Mongolian Beef Honey Walnut Prawns (Sorry I couldn't get the breakdown of price per item) They don't pack their HWP sauce separately like Asia Palace, so if that's an issue for you, speak up. However, we live in the Lamorinda area so by the time we paid and got home, the dish was good and not soggy. Love the honey walnuts! Their Mongolian Beef is alright, but the flavor is not too... nuanced? I know, I know, what did I expect from this small little outpost of a Chinese restaurant in Lamorinda, but it's really close to soy sauce beef, no real spice at all. I thought their Chicken Chow Mein was pretty good. It's got chunks of chicken and lots of noodles and some onions. It's not too salty and, well, it's a good starch to add to the mix. All in all, I can see myself continuing to come here for lack of better options. I like the woman who owns the restaurant and I like her food too! This is one f the only Chinese places I will eat in this part of the bay because there's so many other options. But this place has a really great West Lake Beef soup. There's a strong flavor of cilantro in it that I will really like but it is an acquired taste so I know it's not for everyone. But the other dish I will always order is their green beans because they add jalapenos to them! I don't know other places that do that but I love spicy food so I appreciate them in there! The family that owns this restaurant is also really friendly and are very patient with their customers. I've been wanting to try this place out for a while and reading the reviews here, thought, "why not?" Big mistake. I think the food here was downright gross. Oily, undercooked and just plain bad. The restaurant itself was mostly empty on a Friday night-one other table and then one take out order. My tofu wasn't cooked well at all and was presented in a pool of grease with maybe 5 pieces of veggies in the whole plate. To be fair, the service was friendly and the food arrived quickly. Honestly, I haven't tried many dishes at China Moon, but the ones I have are good. I usually get the Walnut Prawn Lunch special. I think most of the SMC students actually come here for the lunch special. Lunch specials come with soup, salad, an egg roll, and rice. If you get take out, they take a percentage off since they don't send you home with the soup. These are my favorite walnut prawns. There's a crunch when you bite into it, it's not too saucy, and the walnuts are glazed. The owners are friendly. I used to come in every Wednesday. I've been going to this restaurant for the past 5 years and it's been great. I usually go with the China Moon lunch special. You can get a large helping over Sesame Chicken with fried rice and an egg roll for under 7$. The prices here have stayed consistent for these past years and same with the service. It's great they know you by first name and it's a great place to go there with your friends. I love how quickly your food comes out. It takes less than 15 minutes if you're dining in and about the same for the takeout. If you order your food to go you get an additional 15% off your order. The only difference is when you get it to go there is no soup. I'd suggest you get the honey walnut prawns or the sesame chicken. They give you really large portions and the price is always great. Decided to try this place out during lunch time. $8.00 for sweet and sour chicken and it comes with soup, salad, fried won tons, and your choice of white rice or fried rice (I got fried rice). The chicken was super crispy which I loved. Fried rice was also really good. Too much sweet and sour sauce for my liking but it was easily avoidable while eating. Very bad food. I live in the area and this was my first time. Happy to see they had dim sum. Not happy to eat it. God good and sick upon arrival home. Custom dish - chow fun, shrimp, broccoli stir fry for my boy-and my wor wonton soup came quickly at the early hour we arrived, 5:30 PM. Both dishes were up to expectations so we were left happy. On a later return visit, the asparagus chicken had very good flavor and tasted great. My son had the same dish as before. Again we had a very good meal.
