We had 2 orders of pad Thai one crab and 1 shrimp. We were a little underwhelmed with the flavor on both. The short rib noodles were good. I added a decent amount of spices to bring some more heat to it and also had an order of the pineapple fried rice which was okay. The best parts of the meal were the Pom mimosas and the desserts! Super friendly service and the best tom yum soup that we've had and we've had a lot! The pumpkin curry was flavorful and spicy as was the curry roti dish. Their roti is more like naan and is a bit thicker than at most other Thai restaurants but soaked up the curry sauce really well. They've got a big assortment of drinks on their menu that adults and kids can choose from. Their location is right in the heart of town and there is a big public parking lot in the back. Good food, quick service. My mom, brother and I decided to stop here for lunch today after taking our toddlers to Gymboree. We popped in and requested a table for 3 adults and 2 littles. The short rib soup was so flavorful and our server recommended the jalapeño vinegar to add from the condiment tray and it was a fantastic pairing. The stewed pork belly (Palo) was complex and the flavors were heavenly. We also got the crispy garlic shrimp which was light and so tasty. Unfortunately my more recent experiences ordering from Amarin Thai have been a lot less enjoyable than my first one several years ago. The best I can say is that it's been hit or miss. I tried again recently and the experience was abysmal. As a starting point, our pick up order was almost 40 minutes late - meaning my husband sat in his car waiting that entire time. That's wildly late considering the food was supposed to be ready 20 minutes from when we placed the order. Things got worse from there. Almost every single thing we ordered was terrible. The chicken in each chicken dish was dry and overcooked. The cashew chicken in particular was downright gross. The sticky rice was extremely dry. I could neither find nor taste the crab in the Dungeness crab rangoon. The portions were so much smaller than I remember them being previously. To start my review, I'd rate the food a solid 4, but I have to knock them down to 3 stars. We put in a takeout order for 7 dishes at 7:15. Got there at 7:10, received a warm and friendly greeting and was told it would be a few minutes. I was shown a nearby seat and given water. Hospitality is a plus here. Unfortunately, I had to wait til almost 7:35... nothing to get upset about, just an inconvenience. Got home and found we were missing chicken satay and got pad Thai instead. Called them back and they believed we ordered the pad Thai vs satay... obviously a miscommunication... it happens. Now to the food: tasty and well-seasoned dishes; the pork belly app was good, garlic prawns excellent. Noodle dishes were good too. Yellow curry had a nice bite to it. They recently changed ownership and we wanted to give them a try since they are local. Ordered takeout got pad kee mao and Tom yum soup. Pad Kee Mao: 1/5 very disappointing. As a dish that is often eaten with beer it was lackluster and bland. When I opened the lid I immediately noticed how pale it was. Came with a few pieces of chicken, bell pepper, basil, and undercooked onions. Tom Yum Soup: 5/5 phenomenal. Best Tom yum soup I've had in a while and I eat Thai food at least twice a week. Our friend recommended this place to us. We love spicy food and wanted an impromptu, intimate, and fresh date night. The place is very colorful and upscale feeling, nothing drab or pretentious. The staff was super friendly and made great recommendations. We started with the Thai sausage appetizer followed by the chicken larb. Amazing, delicious food! Last minute on Valentine's Day, we decided to go to dinner as a family. We knew it would be challenging to find a place. We went to three different restaurants that we normally go to, and as expected, they were all either full or need reservations. We needed up finding this place and decided to try it. The place is nice and clean. The customer service was exceptional. The food was flavorful. I've had Thai food before in other places but it's been awhile since I've had a really good Thai food, and this place really hit the spot. My kids also loved the food and asked if we can come back! I've been dining at Amarin Thai since they first opened nearly 30 years ago. I was just a kid at the time, and it has remained my favorite Thai restaurant in the Bay Area ever since. Over the years, Amarin has been in the hands of some truly amazing owners--Tom, Pary, Aomy, and now, under the care of Ethan, Kitty, and their chefs. Each of them has shared a deep passion for authentic Thai cuisine, bringing the flavors of Thailand to the Bay Area with dedication and love. Recently, Amarin closed for about a month for renovations, and the results are impressive. The refreshed ambiance feels more modern and upscale, and they've introduced a brand-new menu that adds an elevated touch to both presentation and flavor. The extra attention to detail in plating was a pleasant surprise, making each dish as visually appealing as it is delicious. As for the food? Still as incredible--if not even better--than before. Many of the same talented chefs remain, alongside a few new additions to the kitchen. I'm updating my review on this business. Amarin used to be my favorite Thai restaurant, and then it really went downhill when it transferred ownership a number of years ago. I went in again recently and it's improved so much. Their green curry is amazing (I've become addicted!), their drunken noodles are wonderful, and they have a lovely lunch special that starts at only $19. It's not easy to have a great lunch for that price in Lafayette. Amarin is a good Thai restaurant again, and that makes me very happy! When researching for a Thai restaurant, I found this little gem on the way to UC Berkeley so we can have a Valentine's lunch then go pick up our son for the long weekend. First the decor in the restaurant is lovely and well thought out, the fresh flowers on the table were a definite plus, especially for the occasion. My favorite was most definitely the fried whole Branzino fish! It's a must try. Not was it only aesthetically presented, it was also fried perfectly and the tangy sauce drizzled over it made each mouthful a joy. They even took the time to fillet the fish and reconstructed the fried fish fillets back into the whole fish presentation - just genius and beautiful. I also really loved the lychee iced tea, very refreshing and the lychee fragrant sweet and pleasant. The owner was very courteous and tried to introduce and explain how they did the fish to us. The server came to refill the water several times and helped us pack the extra food to go. All in all, we had a wonderful Valentine's Day lunch and it was a plus that the restaurant was just 20 min drive from UC Berkeley campus. Needless to say, we will definitely be back. read more
