I actually came here on Sunday, when it was closed. I came back on Monday to check the restaurant out! Siam Orchid is a quiet, nicely decorated restaurant with a nice and friendly wait staff, its located directly across from the Orinda Library. I asked for a partial order of egg rolls while waiting for my lunch special, which I ordered with a Thai iced coffee. The egg rolls were delivered very quickly with the iced coffee. The main dish came out after a few minutes of waiting. It's a nice place to meet up with your friends for lunch or dinner. I do recommend that you try this restaurant out, if you're around Orinda! read more

First time here and I usually always have shrimp pad Thai when I first go to a new Thai restaurant because it's the staple in most and if they can make a good pad Thai, they usually score higher in other dishes. A spot that is doing Thai food right! Setting: In a cute area with shops around, there is parking and the interior has booths and tables. Service: Quick and efficient, while being kind and ensuring to ask you what 'spice' level you'd like! Thai spice is pretty spicy so ask them their advice. Food: They start you out with a house soup (ours was a delicious hot & sour) and I followed it up with Khao Soi (curry noodles). It was warm and comforting, highly recommend this spot! read more

Great Thai food! I really enjoyed this restaurant. To start, their food is great! I had the Veggie Pad Thai and the Veggie Pad See Ew. Both dishes were very flavorful and hit the spot for a Thai food craving. This restaurant has a ton of vegetarian options as well in case anyone in your party has dietary restrictions. The servers are very nice and attentive. I really liked our server since she was very prompt. They will offer recommendations and honest opinions when asked. The inside ambiance is great. They have a fancy bar area to the left side of the restaurant with a wide array of liqueurs. When I went there were a list of specialty cocktails for the day, but I'm unsure if they're summer specials for the whole season. I love Siam Orchid, and come here for lunch fairly regularly. It's conveniently located within walking distance to the Orinda Farmers Market and Library. The ambiance is very attractive and great for a romantic dinner for two. Service is also consistently excellent. Most recently we came in for dinner: We usually order a curry or pad Thai dish, but this time we ordered the Crispy Roast Duck and the Salmon Cooked in Banana Leaves, to eat. And we ordered The Perfect Margarita and the Tiger Lily Cocktail to drink. We LOVED the duck! When they describe this dish on the menu as "crispy", they mean it. Wow! Our drinks were also pretty great. The Margarita was genuinely perfect, and the Tiger Lily was unusual, refreshing, and creative (a complex combination of Mezcal and Liquor de Elote, a rare sweet corn-based alcohol from Mexico). The only less than stellar item to us was the salmon. We found it a little plain, and a tad over cooked for our tastes, (but we still ate it all up. And this is literally the only dish we've ever had, in years of coming to Siam Orchid, that we didn't completely love). read more

I like Siam Orchid, but whenever I call to make a pickup order, it's like a 50% chance that someone picks up the phone. Last night I called six times. No answer. I checked their hours, and yes they are open. Then I remember that this also happened the last time I tried to call in an order. They should consider hiring another person, because they seem to have difficulty answering the phone for phone orders. read more

Was going to be at work for the long haul (2pm-2am.i know a long time right) and I wanted to try a place I had yet to try since working in the city. So I check out the menu and settle on the crab fried rice and garlic pepper shrimp. Both items are pricey let me start with that. Nearly $60 bucks for two items is wild! But I know! I hear you "YOU ORDERED IT!" First let me say the portion size was a lot that container was stuffed especially for the rice, so there's that. Now the food the rice threw me off a bit because I was expecting a darker hue to my rice is you know what I mean. Then it had cucumbers and tomatoes over in the corner, and throughout the dish were kind of big slices of onion, and scrambled eggs. Now I will say this there was crab all through it. Ultimately I'll give the dish 3/5. Now let me ask you this, you ever order a dish because you want to taste the protein the way they prepare it, but don't really care for all the other stuff that comes with it? This was me with the pepper shrimp. My container was again stacked, filled to the brim, but with a ton of zucchini and mushrooms with some prawns sprinkled in there. The prawns were good, I would've like a little bit more pepper flavor. And once I had eaten all the shrimp what am I supposed to do with all those mushroom!!!? Last week was my first time to go to the Siam Orchid. I ordered the spicy minced pork on the lunch menu and I requested a sunny side up fried egg to go with it (In Thailand, this dish is often served with a fried egg). The waitress immediately said " No, one million people have asked for it, we cannot do it" I demanded to speak to the chef in the kitchen. The very friendly and kind lady chef in the kitchen was able to accommodate my request. I was happy and satisfied with my lunch. I was more than happy to pay for the fried egg ( $3 ). read more

This place uses MSG in their food. But it's not on the menu and when you ask them, they tell you some of the ingredients in their ingredients contain MSG but they're not sure which ones. Like, what? I'm one of those people that has a sensitivity to it and I started having a reaction while I was still in the restaurant. Really frustrating. The food was mediocre at best. Considering all the MSG that must have been in it, it should've tasted better than it did. The server was very nice and attentive. Interior was fine. Last minute trip to fill our Thai craving. This is a busy local spot in Lamorinda. We were quickly seated for our late dinner. The menu is pretty extensive. Our server disappeared and it took awhile for our order to be taken. We got the Crying Tiger (ribeye), Pad See Eew, and the yellow curry with chicken. The food came out and it looked great. I walked into a nice restaurant decorated in with Thai art, classy cocktail music, and a smiling white with a ponytail. He asked me what I wanted for a drink, so I asked for my favorite drink, Thai ice coffee. The delicious iced coffee came very quickly in a canning jar with handles. My order of three lunch specials was cooked and served very quickly. For most people, ordering one lunch special is enough, but I wanted to try their food in a big way. Only then can you experience the chef's cuisine. Also, I'm babysitting a cat here in Orinda for nine days, so I haven't wanted to cook if i can order enough to eat delicious leftovers. What a pleasant surprise, the food, atmosphere, and the three dishes, were quite fresh and delicious. The Pad Thai, which I ordered with chicken, was very nice, I had delicately seasoned noodles, shredded carrots, shredded cabbage, green onions,fried tofu, fried eggs, bean sprouts, and finely chopped peanuts. For an extra $2, you can get the egg roll and salad, but I already had those with the two other lunch specials. The #6 Peanut Prawns, which were deep fried in a light batter, came with peanut curry sauce over a bed of spinach in a bowl, served with slices of orange, a crunchy Noodle salad, rice and a fried vegetarian Thai egg roll. Delicious! The prawns were a decent size, and quite tasty. My last dish was #12, Garlic Pepper Calamari, with onions, zucchini, mushrooms, green onions, fried noodles, were served with the sliced oranges, plus a noodles salad with carrots, cucumber, red cabbage, and shredded iceberg lettuce, deep fried noodles, were crunchy and fresh with a light dressing. Overall, the food was quite superb, my mom lived in Bangkok for fourteen years, so I know how to appreciate Thai food. I will definitely come here again if I'm visiting the area again. read more

I hadn't ordered from this restaurant in more than 10 years. In the past they were closed for lunch but now they are open for lunch. I tried the prawns and calamari lunch special which came with salad for $15. The prawns and calamari was exactly what I expected - it was good - just the right amount of both shrimp and calamari. The egg roll was good too along with the salad. This entree hit the spot for me. The only wish is that they offered a little more portion wise. I came here for lunch and surprised how busy it got. We were seated immediately and the server was kind, he took our order with ease once getting our hands on the menu. Although they were not attentive the food was solid. I would rate it an 8/10 and would come again. The chicken was cooked well and seasoned, the salad was delicious my favorite part, the only complaint I gave is that the veggie roll was cold, still good but cold. The mango was fresh as were the oranges. The meal was completely and a steal for the price. If you are ever in orinda, check them out. But beware not a lot of parking. This costs $15. read more

Best Thai in Orinda!! When I can't make it over to Berkeley, Siam always has my back. They are usually responsive (although sometimes have to call more than once) and pretty speedy, with the order always ready on arrival (unlike Bahn Thai at times). Their panang curry is one of my absolute favorite dishes - a hearty takeout serving and lots of creamy richness! On our recent run, we ordered: - Thai toast - very savory, crunchy and moist - Chiang Mai Noodles - the egg noodles melt in your mouth and the yellow curry it comes with is so good, it had me licking the lid! - Massuman Curry - very rich, savory red curry dish with lamb. I am not as big of a lamb fan, so was my least favorite, but was still good. Definitely worth keeping this place as a top Thai spot in Orinda! read more

Siam Orchid continues to deliver on fresh, delicious Thai food. Pre-pandemic we ate in the dining room and during the pandemic we ordered to go food - always with friendly and efficient service. The food is really good. My favorite hands down is the Chiang Mai Noodles. It is comfort food - warm, rich flavored curry over egg noodles. We order it with chicken. Always delicious and spot on. Takes me back to being in Thailand. The other dishes are just as wonderful. When I moved to Orinda 12 years ago I was so delighted to find this little town has two fantastic Thai cuisine restaurants - both wonderful.
