Udon: Coconut Curry Chicken
Audrey C.

Went to Lou's Chicken Shop today and tried their Udon: Coconut Curry Chicken. Honestly, it was incredible. The chicken was so juicy and perfectly cooked, and you could really taste that the broth was rich, umami-packed, and clearly homemade. There was a surplus amount of juicy chicken thigh and bok choy. It genuinely felt like something worthy of a Michelin star. Only downside was the service. The lady working there came off a bit unfriendly, which took away from the overall experience. Because of that, I'd give it a 4/5. Still definitely worth going for the food alone.

Love this small town low key area of Moraga. This location used to be Noddle Theory back in the day but it's now 'Von's Chicken shop'. We came here to try their chicken sandwich and plates. They also sell 'Noodle Theory' frozen soup provision and udon noodles. Score! The place is nice and clean. Staff are super friendly and helpful. There is plenty of parking, seats inside and out. Not sure this would be good for groups. They have bar seating as well if you are coming alone. We tried their Butter Chicken sandwich. It was huge and juicy! It was bigger than my hubs fist. It's a big chicken thigh. We also tried their Garlicky Chicken soy plate that comes with the right amount of rice and green salad with their miso vinaigrette. I would come back again especially for the Noodle Theory frozen provision. I want to try their other selections. Good food and service but a little far for me. ;} [83R,2025]

Garlic soy chicken sandwich and tomato soup special

We love this intimate restaurant in Moraga. Their fried chicken options are so flavorful and delicious. I particularly like the more subtle flavor of the garlic soy glaze but the caramel fish sauce glaze gives you a stronger, sweet flavor. The sandwich is a solid option served on a perfectly toasted challah bun from a local bakery. If you order the rice plate you get a scoop of sushi rice topped with furikake, your choice of vegetable side which could be one of two coleslaws but the real pièce de résistance is their Hawaiian style potato Mac salad. Great tots or cucumber side dishes, a large bowl of tomato soup loaded with veggies like a minestrone, and a delicious Drakes FU Cancer golden ale on draft. Closes a bit earlier than you'd expect on the weekends but the staff have lives too, just plan your delicious meal accordingly.

I've loved what these folks produce since I frequented Noodle Theory in Rockridge, an earlier venture of theirs. Lou's Chicken Shop has the warm, friendly vibes I've come to expect from patronizing the family's other restaurants. The Buttermilk chicken salad and garlicky smashed cucumbers are consistently craveable. The kids karaage won my daughter over immediately. As you might expect, the chicken is the star of the show here and it's tasty, juicy, and full of flavor. So far we've only done take out but I'm hoping to dine in soon and take advantage of their sunny outdoor seating. I don't live near Moraga but I gladly make the trek to Lou's Chicken Shop and encourage anyone in the area who loves good food to do the same!

Great food & AMAZING service. I walked in 2 minutes past closing and he insisted on making me my food. Thank you!!!

To go buttermilk chicken sandwich The taste of the sandwich is really nice. I love the cabbage and pickled onion combo on the chicken. The chicken itself is also very well seasoned and toasted bun is good. Very filling and very high quality.

How many groceries carry "American wagyu-style beef?" or fresh Scottish salmon?" (Not to mention how nice their butchers are, they are so willing to help with any specific cuts or instructions you need). -The deli has a great selection of cold-cuts, salads and makes killer sandwiches. -The cheese dept has an excellently-curated selection, far better than the chain stores. -Their in-house produced entrees are delicious, as well as the best local bakery/bread offerings. -Their checkout staff are friendly, beyond simply emptying your cart. They offer assistance to your car and have "associates" in the parking lot to help with parking and cart retrieval. This is "old-school" service in the 21st century...(obviously, they can't charge chain-store prices; they don't have the same buying power), but I definitely get value when I shop there...kudos to Diablo Foods, you "rock!"

I come back here once every week or two after placing an order via fax for my work place. So why only four stars? They unfortunately can get rushed, and miss stuff on the faxed in order sheets. Basic stuff: "please serve hot" or even as simple as basic ingredients to include like mayo or mustard. Don't get me wrong, I'll keep coming back here. If they could just get the orders more accurate it would be an easy 5/5!

We opted to not sit outside, rather inside right by the exterior seating to still get the vibes but also some AC. I love places like Lafayette where all the businesses support each other and help each other grow. Their brews on tap are mostly all local, and we grabbed some Pilsners sourced from Lafayette's new brewery, Western Flyer. So fresh and crisp. Can't wait to also check that spot out. Food-wise, we came in mid-afternoon and grabbed a Kale Pancetta salad (they pre-split the salad for us on two plates which was so nice), and for the mains, we both grabbed the Tuna Melt with fries. The salad was delicious. I'm def a tuna melt girly, and I loved the addition of the ciabatta (?) as the bread option, so fresh as well. This tuna melt comes with grapes fyi, and a few other elements mixed in. I absolutely loved it, just sharing though as I know how some tuna stans like their tuna :) This spot is clean, spacious, and perfectly situated in walking distance downtown. Would love to come back for brunch with a group of friends, or even again during the upcoming Lafayette Art & Wine Fest. Food is good, service is quick and friendly, and vibes are right. Metered parking located across the street.
