Been coming to this place for Lunch Specials for years now. It's one of my most favorite Chinese lunch specials in Fairfield. With soup, salad, fried rice, entrée of choice and fried wonton, you can't go wrong here. I love the walnut shrimp here but I must say they go a bit overboard on the batter leaving me with big pieces that turn in regular sized shrimps and lots of fried batter. Solid spot for Chinese food downtown. Sometimes the ladies who work the restaurant can be a little blunt. But we have found dishes that we love. I highly recommend either the Mongolian beef, walnut prawns, or mandarin prawns. The lunch special come with a small bowl of soup, your choice of entree, fried or steamed rice (fried is super good), and a bit of salad with peanut sauce (also really good). GF and I had lunch here, during a trip to the Jelly Belly tour. No one else was here and we ate lunch at 1210pm. I was a bit disappointed because this is usually not a good sign. But it was a Sat. and it was the week before TGiving. I had the prawns in lobster sauce, fried rice, fried wonton and a small chicken salad. GF had the kung pao chicken with the same sides. The food was fresh, tasty and a decent quantity. They even gave us a orange wedge and fortune cookies. It was also very reasonably priced. We both also had hot and sour soup, which was the best of this meal. Lots of fresh chinese veggies were in (no prawns, though - like the pic here). The soup was well done and worth a return trip for it alone. Nothing fancy here but well cooked and executed food, good service and reasonable prices. Nice lady served us (Lisa?) and the food came out competently served. My only beef (no pun) was that the food was warm and not hot (temperature). It was odd because we were the only ones in the place? And it looked/sounded like ours was the only food being cooked? I would have given 4-stars, if it was piping hot (which I expected?). Strange though, because I can't explain why it wasn't hot. It wasn't that big of a deal because the food was good but it still deducted a star. I would definitely go back. My first time here and tried their Mangolia Beef,Orange chicken, fried rice, chow menu and lemon fried chicken. Out of those I really loved the mangolia beef and fried rice with Chow Mein. Loved their food except the service was alright. Delicious flavors. read more

Crooks, my boyfriend paid for the meal and they said it didn't go through even though the bank took the money out already, sad because the food was really good, I enjoyed the orange chicken, but. So I checked out the reviews from Jenny O. & Kiki I. and decided this would be a good place to get my Won Ton Soup I had been craving. So we walked in and to my surprise from the looks of the outside it was quite full, all but maybe 2 or 3 tables were not seated. I placed my order to go and I got it within 5 mins. I've been here a few times because this so happens to by my grandma's favorite Chinese food. She tells me it reminds her of Chinese food in Brooklyn when she was a kid. So every time I visit her, we go to China Palace. Every single time. The food is okay. I've had better Chinese food, but I give it a pass because it's Fairfield. I never really put Fairfield up high on the restaurant totem pole so this hole in the wall place made me rethink that sentiment. It's a very, very tiny restaurant so there's not a lot of seating. If you're coming in with a huge group, I'd try to call ahead or go elsewhere. There's not that much seating to accommodate you. The service is very quick, but the servers aren't the friendliest. They're not rude, but they're not welcoming. What I have noticed about this place is that they consistently undercook the rice and overcook the rice. It's never just right. I've been here 4+ times over the past year and it's never been cooked correctly. I've eaten very gummy rice to very crunchy rice and both were just nauseating. Here is my review of the food that I've tried in my past visits: x Zesty Hot and Sour Soup: The thickness of this soup ultimately varies. Sometimes it's ultra thick and sometimes it's not thick at all, but one thing is always consistent: it's definitely extremely sour. There literally is no heat to this dish, but by my grandma's standards it is spicy. x Shrimp with Lobster Sauce: This my grandma's favorite dish. When she eats it her eyes light up and she gets a big smile. They definitely offer you a very large portion with a lot of shrimp. I mean, for $11 you better shovel all the shrimp you can on that bad boy. The lobster sauce is.. okay. You have a hint of a lobster taste to it and that's pretty much it. The dish itself is okay, but nothing to write home about. x Orange Beef: I nearly died when I had this. The flavor was ridiculous overpowering and I had such a hard time eating the beef that I had to stop halfway through and drink some water because it was orange-tangerine overload. It was kind of sickeningly tart. I couldn't finish the rest of the beef and refused to take it home. I would have just thrown it out if I had gotten a to-go box. x Lemon Chicken: Yes, the tried and true. My most sought after Chinese dish as a kid. The chicken is flaky, crispy, with a hint of lemon. You genuinely couldn't taste the lemon the past few times I've gotten this dish, but the chicken was tender so I gave it a pass. x Chicken with Broccoli: Sometimes I make the natural assumption that most dishes come with what is described in the title. Here, my assumption was wrong. Chunks of chicken, a very tart sauce, and 1 piece of broccoli. Mmmm can you taste all that broccoli? Nope! All in all: if you don't have high expectations, China Palace can be an amazing Chinese restaurant in your area, but if you expect more for the price you have to pay, this place will do nothing but disappoint. read more

Their Mongolian Beef was prepared in the classic manner, a little spicy with great taste. They appeared to have trimmed all the fat from the beef, as should be typical with Mongolian Beef. The kids loved their Pork fried rice. They provide a larger than normal portion. The food is definitely worth the fairly cheap price! We've also had their General's Chicken. A great spicy garlic sauce coating bite sized pieces of chicken. A large portion of great chicken goodness. The kids may have liked this more than Orange Chicken. This is our new Fairfield Favorite for Chinese food! Well deserving of the full 5 star rating. read more

This is a hidden little gem in downtown Fairfield near the theater where comedy shows take place.[I don't know what it is called.] The owners are friendly people who really make you feel welcomed. They keep the restaurant clean and create a nice ambiance. China Palace has the best Chinese food you will ever get at a restaurant. If I could give this restaurant a negative 5 I would! I went here on a recomendation from a friend who told me that they had such GREAT FOOD but what she forgot to mention was the POOR SERVICE!!! My mother and I went here and the woman didn't hardly speak or bring a menu to the table. Then a regular customer came in and she spoke to them and started taking their order got them drinks and menus. I was shocked. So when I tried talking to the women she wouldn't even come to the table she talked to us from the middle of the room. I was so P***ED that I got up and said clearly you don't think my money spends like thiers. Its sad that PEOPLE OF COLOR could be so rude to each other. I ordered the lunch special today from China Palace and felt like it was just a-ok. It wasn't anything extra special, but it wasn't bad either. Just one of those "eh, I think I've had better but I'm not going to complain too much" type of fish. I ordered vegetable chicken (b/c I felt the need to consume some veggies and fiber in my diet. For take out, the lunch special comes with a choice of either steamed rice or fried rice, a small salad, and your entree of choice. If you eat in during lunch, you'll also get the soup of the day (soup not available for take out). My total bill came out to be $6.80, which is super cheap. This is as good as any Chinese American joint in Oakland or San Francisco. The war won ton was good and what the doctor ordered. But the chow fun is just good enough to be from my favorite joints on Clement or China Town. Only thin I can say that might hold this place back is the front entrance might need some sweeping, but it has been a really windy week so I give them some room on that. read more

Amazing! I dropped by today after reading good reviews on yelp and I wasn't let down at all. I ordered orange chicken to go. I sat down to wait and only got thru one round of angry birds before it was ready! The service was so fast! I took my food back to work and dug in--it was absolutely delicious! By far the best orange chicken I've ever had. The chicken was hot and juicy, the breading was very light and crispy. Not at all greasy--which is amazing for a Chinese place. And the sauce...mmmmmm! Not at all like others. It was not a thick sugary orange syrup; rather, it was a light glaze made from real oranges. Imagine that, orange chicken that actually tastes like orange covered chicken! I totally recommend China Palace. Don't let the so-so location and decor fool you, this is some of the best Chinese food outside San Francisco or Oakland. I've had some hit or miss Chinese food (mostly miss) in the Fairfield/Vallejo areas in the last 10 years. I was craving hot and sour soup and shrimp chow fun. Normally, so called Chinese restaurants in this area will give you some bland, vinegar-laden, pea filled interpretation of what Americans think hot and sour should be. China Palace gives you the real deal - enough vinegar for a tangy taste, enough spice to clear the nostrils, and the real ingredients (some kind of dried edible fungus thingee and tofu). The shrimp chow fun had just the right amount of sauce and was cooked to the right consistency with the right amount of oil. Some other "Chinese" places throw in chunks of noodles that are undercooked and un-separated. Other places also skimp on the sauce and oil, making it the bland chow fun a tiny step above the carb portion of a hospital heart-healthy meal. China Palace made it just right, like the chow fun I grew up with in San Francisco. I'm guessing it's family owned. The waitress was an older lady who was nice and took time out to serve our food as opposed to plopping the plate onto the table. The pricing was also very good. Two hearty portions of chow fun and soup for less than $14. I left the place feeling extremely satisfied, without feeling overly full. This place was a great find thanks to yelp! I agree with a lot of the other reviews here. Very friendly staff. Great food. Nothing out of the ordinary though. The soup was excellent! I always go here to get either the Won Ton soup or the Hot and Sour soup. I give this place three stars simply because the battered food was more batter than meat. Seriously, out of all the Chinese restaurants in the area, China Palace is the only restaurant that I can truly say has some great tasting Chinese food! You'll have to go there and try yourself. The location isn't bad... maybe 20 yards off of the main drag. I was very pleased with the food, the Hot and Sour soup is fantastic has large shrimp and chicken strips in it which adds a great flavor. We also had the General Chicken which was very good but simple with just a base of shredded cabbage. The sizzling beef on hot plate was fantastic and I liked the China Palace Chicken (wings) though my Fiancee' did not. Very Friendly people and the presentation was great for such an affordable meal. Best Chinese food around! Hands down!!! The owners are amazing, everything is so fresh. My husbands family has been going here since he was a little kid. If you want some great chinese food, this is the place to go! Keep in mind usually the husband is working in the kitchen and his wife is taking orders and delivering your food. I have honestly been going to China Palace since I was in High School. My parents introduced me to this place. It was called Lucky's before they bought the restaurant. I am now 41 and still go here! I have never found a better Chinese restaurant. We travel from Vacaville to Fairfield whenever we have Chinese because it is SO good. Potstickers to die for, everything is DELICIOUS! I have never had a bad meal here EVER. I really like Amy the waitress, she is super friendly and knows our order before we even tell her!! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants some scrumptious authentic Chinese food. I used to work at Second Time Around and would get a carton All the time during my lunch time. This place used to be very good overall. My old office was around the corner from China Palace and we would eat there once a week or so. The food is still pretty good... but the portions are far from great. I'm not looking for 8 pounds of food or anything, but I shouldn't leave hungry after spending 9 bucks on lunch. My usual Chinese place is Frank & Yuens, and I cannot even finish more than half of my lunch special there. I know better, once you find a food place you love stick to it. I was out with the hubby and kids and it was dinner time. The kids wanted Chinese food, but we were in Fairfield and really didn't want to drive to Vacaville to our favorite place, so we got on yelp and gave China Palace a try. Service- very friendly, really slow. Wife is in the front, husband in the back cooking. Atmosphere-kinda dirty, leaves all over the floor, pictures on the wall have a thick layer of dust. Food- Not good meat, the dark yucky stuff:( To much breading on the sweet and sour chicken. Egg rolls were very yummy, pot stickers also very yummy. Special fried rice was nothing special along with the Kung Pow, there was no POW and the sauce was sweet not spicy at all. My husband said we should have just stuck to the appetizers. Lesson learned next time I'm driving to Sam's Chinese Restaurant in Vacaville sooooo much better!!!!! read more

I was really excited by the other reviewers after stumbling upon this place on Yelp. I was impressed at the politeness of the waitstaff, and though clearly older, it was not dirty or dingy. I like my restaurant with some patina, and this clearly had it. The Tea was right. The sauce for the egg rolls was a little uninspired, but they had good flavor. Next up, chow mein. The noodles were rubbery and the dish generally lacking in flavor. I've had better at the mall, sadly. Sesame beef. Initially pretty good, but I grew tired of it quickly. Good texture, decent flavor. Finally, a "two lovers shrimp". My wife said the shrimp were good, but the white sauce was "strange". The Broccoli was good. I hope my experience was just an off night, and I'd encourage you to still give it a try, sadly it didn't work out for us. read more

The only reasons why I come here is because it is within walking distance from my job and there aren't many Chinese places to choose from in Solano. The decor looks like a dive straight from the 1980's. The lunch specials are reasonably priced and the food comes out very quick. However, it is just mediocre Chinese food. If this place was located anywhere else, I would not eat there. read more

Came to have dinner here for the first time last night with my family. I ordered a wonton noodle soup and there was a bug swimming around in my soup! The waitress had no remorse and all she said was that the bug most likely came from the vegetables in the soup, how can you not wash your greens before cooking with them?? To top it off she didn't even apologize and all she said was that I still had to pay for it. I did not eat anything from there after that and I will never come back to this restaurant. It's not right to consciously be serving food with bugs in it to customers, this is why health regulations were created here. read more

Ok went to China Palace in Fairfield, Ca the location is pretty accessible very close to downtown. Food was great. Try the chicken chowmein it's awesome. The service was good. My husband's family has come here for years, me, about 18 years since our daughter was born. The food here is extremely tasty! We have gotten so spoiled that no other Chinese restaurant compares. Both our kids grew up on their potstickers and chow mein. We usually order like 6 orders of potstickers. I've been going to this place since I was in elementary school because it's cheap and the food is not that bad. My favorite is their won ton soup. My parents often bought their food here for our meals for a whole week because they would not be able to cook for us because they would be working, and we never complained about it. The place is not set in the most attractive place but it does have that "traditional downtown Chinese place" look that proves that their food is legit Chinese food. Altogether, I recommend this place to anyone looking for Chinese food at an affordable price and who doesn't look for anything more than real Chinese food served by traditional Chinese people. read more
