This was AWEFUL tasting food!!! I had a hard time finding a decent Chinese food restaurant open on New Years Eve so decided to give China Palace a try. The lady i ordered from was very nice but we were upset when we got home to find the food was nasty! 2 of our three entrées were thrown in the trash because they were not edible. I think the meat had been in the fridge too long and had gone bad. I called them to complain and they said "no, we cook fresh, everything is freshly cook only after you put in an order, we don't use leftovers..." They may wait for the order before cooking but the ingredients may have been sitting around too long in the fridge and were NOT fresh... something had gone bad and we tossed the Mongolian Beef and Pot Stickers we ordered. We were hesitant to trust the Sweet & Sour Pork but ate some because we hated to waste our money but didn't trust it enough to share it with our kids! Horrible food! This is the best Chinese Food in Fairfield, bar none. We have been eating here over 23 yrs, haven't had a bad meal yet. We get the "B" Dinner for 2. The Hot and Sour soup is Fantastic. Mongolian Beef and Kung Pow Chicken are in this also. Even Foil Wrapped Chicken,all great! Ever since spending 2 weeks in China Town in SF I've been deprived of good Chinese food. Well I finally found a place. I had the pot stickers which is odd because I rarely order them. They were great, full of flavour. I also had the General Chicken. Most places I've had the general chicken sauce is so strong that all you taste. This was great, the chicken was fried just right and the sauce had enough flavour but not so much, you could still taste the chicken. Could have been a little spicier but that's about it. Next time I go I'll order ahead of time because I had to wait about 25 mins but what do you expect is not fast food. read more

If I was just judging the food, I'd only give this place 2 stars. But the service was fast and friendly and that counts for something. It was a little hole-in-the-wall (which is a good thing) right off of Main St. in "downtown" Fairfield with sticky table tops (not a good thing). Service was fast and very nice - and the food arrived very quickly (all good things). But the food... the "General Chicken" had a light sauce that had no flavor other than sweet. The chicken had a lot of batter but was at least crispy. We ordered string beans with chicken and the sauce was brown and gelatinous. Ick. We also ordered both dishes "very spicy" and neither had any heat whatsoever. The Mandarin PRAWNS are really good! First time there, I couldn't get enough of them, second time it was equally satisfying but the third time I was a deceived! These "Prawns" were actually regular sized shrimp dipped and fried in really thick batter! While I still devoured my meal, I felt like the pricing should've been adjusted and I should've been told I was getting short changed. Went there for first time and ordered chicken fried rice and honey walnut shrimp during dinner service for take out. The shrimp was awesome although the tails were still on and thought that was strange for battered fried shrimp. But they were big shrimp and crispy. My chicken fried rice was over cooked and a bit dry, so a bit disappointed in that. But I will try them out again and order something different. China Palace is where we head for Chinese food in Fairfield. It is a small "mom and pop" establishment and has been owned by the same couple, Lisa and Pat, for over 25 years. Pat does all the cooking. His spicy eggplant with strips of pork is outstanding! Even people who think they don't like eggplant enjoy this dish. It's really not very spicy, so don't worry if you don't care for hot foods. One order of the eggplant to go, along with some rice, is enough for my husband and me for an entire dinner. The eggplant costs just $10.50, including tax! We also love China Palace's hot and sour soup, which is full of shrimp and veggies. It's great especially in the winter. Lisa makes delicious pot stickers by hand, so you might want to try them, too. Mu shu pork, chicken, beef, vegetables, or shrimp also is a good bet. Mu shu is something like a burrito, with the filling wrapped up in a very thin pancake. If you have more than three people, order a few extra pancakes. You'll have plenty of filling for a couple of extras. If you eat at the restaurant, hot tea is provided free of charge. The lunch specials, served with soup, a small salad, an entree, fried or steamed rice, hot tea, and an orange wedge and fortune cookie, are an excellent value.
