We have lived in Fairfield for 8 years and have stopped into Mandarin for dinner twice and both times they were hosting private parties and couldn't seat us but We went to Missouri Street theater last Thursday night to catch a musical and I'm grateful we did! Seated right away and we were waited on by one of the owners. We ordered Egg rolls, pork potstickers, chicken crispy noodles, mushy pork and last but not least...Salt & pepper prawns. I used to work at a Mandarin restaurant in high school waiting tables and I know good mandarin food! The pot stickers were hand made and the pork filling was delicious! A fellow reviewer had said they were under cooked and pink, which is true, cooked pork filling is typically pink when it's fully cooked. They were pan fried to perfection. What my wife & I noticed was how fresh the cut Veggies were in the dishes we selected. The salt & Pepper prawns were the way I have tried to find them since leaving the bay area. The breading was light and cooked to perfection and all the Veggies and garlic in a light sauce was just right. Cannot find this style anywhere else in Fairfield or Vacaville and I have tried hard! Worse Chinese food I've had in a long time. It was surprisingly nice inside but the food was HORRIBLE and Expensive. Sweet and sour pork lunch plate with "fried rice" cost $12. The pork was ok, bland under fried pieces drenched in sauce that got soggy fast. The mushy yellow "fried rice" should have been called rice boiled with bouillon cube. Honey walnut prawn was $16.50. The shrimp itself was mediocre, again under fried with a nothing special sauce. However the walnuts it came with was stale store bought sugared bagged nuts. $12.99 combo chow mein was the best tasting item I ordered. The host/server was a nice blonde lady. I didn't see the kitchen staff but I wouldn't be surprised at all if none of them were trained Chinese cooks cooking authentic Chinese style food. I will not be coming back. read more

My husband and I attended a rehearsal dinner at this location. Our first impression when we walked in- place is clean and quiet. The host pre-ordered the food. We had won ton shrimp soup, fried rice, noodles, beef & broccoli, lemon chicken, and another beef dish. All were great. Lemon chicken wasn't too strong tasting. To make a first impression on me water in real glass and a clean restaurant are key! This place knocked these outta the park! Ordered the hot and sour soup and moo shoo pork my two favorites when prepared correctly...And this place hit the bullseye! Soup was awesome huge portion was small size enough for two or three! Moo shoo was perfectly seasoned and vegetables were crunchy and not over cooked nor greasy. Oooh yes this is my new favorite Chinese place outside San Francisco! And since they have been in business since 1982 I think they'll be around for awhile! I must confess I will drive here (out of my way by 15 miles) next time I want Chinese food! Yay! read more

I ordered this through GrubHub but i think the food would be the same regardless of how I got it. It did not take too long or arrive cold. We were so excited for chinese food while visiting my parents because in NC and TX I cannot find good chinese food that live up to the standards of growing up near San Francisco. I will start by saying the food was good, had lots of flavor. I did not check for MSG or anything but I did not feel any of the issues I normal get after eating MSG. But would I order from here again, maybe not. Not for flavor but other reasons. I guess you have to keep reading. We ordered combo chow fun for my dad, that is chicken, beef and shrimp with chow fun noodles (thicker). We are vegetarian so we ordered vegetable fried rice, vegetable chow mein and vegetable chow fun. I will start with the chow fun noodles. I have not had good chow fun noodles in a long time and still have not. They were clumped up and stuck together, like they were put in the box too hot and not mixed around with the sauce enough to seperate. This was the case in both chow fun boxes. It was very disappointing because it was what I was looking forward to the most. I think this is why most restaurants don't do chow fun, the noodles are thin in slice and wide in width, which makes them stick to each other more easily. The combo chow fun had some beef and maybe 4 really small shrimp in the whole box. I could not find any chicken. Now the vegetarian dishes in general. First off, not all vegetarians like tofu. I do not like tofu. To find that all of the vegetarian dishes had tofu in them was very sad. I was hoping for a lot of veggies, but instead I got tofu, baby corn and peas. I also don't like baby corn. Normally I can handle it, but this baby corn (from each box) tasted bad. I had to pick it out, which left me with pretty much noodles (or rice) from each box. The chow mein was very greasy. Not sure what they used in the sauce, but maybe they should have put some in with the chow fun to keep the noodles from sticking. The flavor was spot on but I had to wash my face after eating because I could feel the grease coming out. The fried rice was good, but a bit greasy too. Very few veggies and again with the tofu. I am not sure if it is them or GrubHub that does not include descriptions or pictures when ordering online. I wish they did because I would have either asked to remove certain things or tried some place else. I can't score them too low because the flavor was there, and we did eat almost all of it, but it took three people over two days to eat it all because we could only handle so much at a time and then go wash our faces. read more

The orange chicken came with the sauce separate and the dish had no flavor. The rice was ok but over fried and a wierd yellow color. The pork and vegetables lacked flavor and the chow mein was very greasy. We usually order from Dynasty but they were so busy we decided to try someplace else. NEVER AGAIN! I don't know what kind of Chinese food the positive reviewers have had before, but this is literally the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I had it DoorDashed to me, and when it got here it was still hot, just not good. Orange chicken was neon orange, taste was barely there and what was there was not good. Soft, no type of crunch whatsoever. The way they advertised the pork made it sound like it was going to come on skewers, but it was just flabby pieces of meet. And the fried race. Lord help me the fried rice. It was piss yellow. Tasted like nothing. All of the food looked like play food. If you're really that desperate for Chinese food, you're better off getting Panda Express. Worst Chines food I've ever had on the west coast! The fried rice looked like it was made with an instant rice that started out yellow, and stayed that color. Plus it was at best al dente! "Dry fried" chicken wings were bathed in whatever sauce so much that they were mushy, and add to that an enormous amount of fat made them inedible. The chow mien was flavorless, and basically meatless. My wife said the Szechuan chicken was also tasteless and very watery. We spent $70 for a meal that was a huge disappointment. The customer service here needs to be revisited. I would like all military personnel to know that the owner of the establishment says that they don't do military discounts because the prices are already fair and they do just fine by not offering it. I was so taken back by this response I asked them to repeat it. As a veteran who still works with the military I think to respond like that is preposterous. Civilians do not do what the military does, hence, military gets discounts places civilians don't. I understand as the owner it is your right whether to offer a discount or not but to respond in a way where military people don't matter or make a difference is unfathomable. read more

I phoned in our order for my husband to pick up, was told it would take 40 minutes, and gave them my number. When my husband got there, he paid and was THEN told that they didn't know when his order would be ready as a large party had just come in and they were being served first!! I was impressed from the minute I walked in until the minute I walked out. The renovation here is complete and I can tell you it was a 100% renovation in every way!! I can bring my family here to share a meal together, share a romantic evening with my Honey or come in and get my drink on. The atmosphere here is accommodating in every way!! I eat all over the place in Fairfield and hands down I love the set up here. I haven't even mentioned the food at this point but that is coming. Promise. I am just so amazed at the difference in the before and after of this establishment. The booth seating is circular in a very modern "Vegas-Like" interior. The tables are regular tables but they would suit me just fine. The color scheme and lighting is subdued and quite nice. Very comfortable!! Food: Yum, Yum and Yum!! I ordered Mongolian Beef, Sesame Chicken, Pot stickers, Spring Rolls and Won ton soup. The Mongolian Beef was the best I have ever eaten. No joke. The Sesame Chicken wasn't as spicy as I usually like but one mention of that to our Server (also the owner) Pai (sp?) and he added some magic yumminess to it making it perfect!! The Pot stickers are very large and pan fried. I really enjoyed them a lot but they were so big and filling!! I recommend if ordering these you have a few hungry people ready to devour them. And devour them you will! Delicious!! The Spring Rolls were just Spring Rolls. I would be lying if I said they were the best I ever had because they are not but they are still very good. Definitely worth ordering if Spring Rolls are your thing. The Won ton soup was VERY good. Very light and not oily which I really enjoyed. It had a very rich broth. Drinks: Yes please!! I drank a Lychee Martini and it was so so good. I will be back to try quite a few of the concoctions that Ms. T.J. makes. The Belvedere brand Vodka is very popular here and the staff seems to really know how and what to mix it with to make it perfect for you. Talk to them. Tell them what you want. They will most definitely make something special or customize something for you. I walked in here an absolute stranger and when I walked out I felt like part of the family. The Bar/Lounge area can definitely be classified as both. Such a great atmosphere!! From the upcoming event notices that I have seen, "Mandarin" may be an up an coming Club atmosphere that will attract a huge following. Interesting events coming up that I have not seen available in the Fairfield area before to be honest. It's a great addition!! Let me sum this up. This place is a great addition to the Fairfield Restaurant AND Club scene. I haven't been anywhere in Fairfield as of yet that I can say that for. I did not know any of these people before I came here and after I left I felt like I had made some really cool friends and I will be back to hang out with them too!! It's a bit crispy which is interesting. They probably fried it a bit. - Broccoli beef: average. no better than any other restaurant of same quality. - soup: It's like a pimped out egg flower soup. The only reason this establishment is getting ONE star is they did a passable job preparing the BBQ pork chow mein and the chicken fried rice. We ordered through DoorDash and will never do so again. To begin with, the $12 "Beef With Oyster Sauce" was composed of gray, slimey, tasteless beef swimming in water with green onion and oil droplets floating on top. There was not a HINT of oyster sauce anywhere in the dish. The potstickers were crusty, hard as a rock and uncooked in the center. The Broccoli Beef was also watery and contained the same slimey, gray. tasteless beef as the other dish - the beef seemed as if it were BOILED and not stir fried. The BBQ pork chow mein and chicken fried rice were passable. All in all, avoid this establishment at all costs. I can see now why they have a 56 out of a 100 Health Department rating and I wish to heck I had consulted YELP before ordering from this place. Pot Stickers: definitely worth ordering- home made and delicious (pork only- booo) Mandarin Beef: not on the menu- try if you like East Coast flavor- something about it reminded me of NY Chinese food Fried rice: yum yum- not too much soy sauce but perfect flavor Chow Mein: another must- noodles were cooked to perfection. So my wife and I had dinner here 06/13/14 and we both agreed the food was not as good as the other Yelpers raved about. We ordered Pork Chow Mein, Mandarin Beef, and Dry Fried Chicken. The texture of the Chow Mein Noodles was perfect but it sure was oily! Every bite I took I had to wipe my lips. The Mandarin Beef was really dry and heavily breaded. The sauce they put on it wasn't too bad. Dry Fried Chicken? No thanks. I was expecting an evenly sauce coated crunchy flavored chicken but it was just the opposite. The chicken was soggy, over sauced, and very bland. Maybe because for it being Friday the 13th the food was bad? I don't know... The only thing that is right about this place is their price, cheap.
